Itinerary highlights

  • Sleep in a tent with your children, fly over elephants in an air taxi, paddle in the heart of a delta
  • Behold lions, giraffes, hippos and other amazing animals in Khwai and the Okavango
  • Zambezi river cruise, ziplining, lunch overlooking Victoria Falls, guided safaris: It’s all planned out
  • A lounge at the airport, fast customs, Concierge service: easy for families
Children are particularly sensitive to the vibes a place gives off. And here, there are plenty of vibes! From the roar of the Zambezi at Victoria Falls to the sound-filled nights of the Okavango Delta, not forgetting the sleepy, pink dawns in Chobe National Park, there are spectacular sights and intimate moments to be experienced here. There are also air taxis. Flying 400 metres (1,300 feet) above the shimmering expanses of the Okavango is reason enough to make the trip. So, what can you say when, on top of all that, there’s a trip through the bush with a tented camp right in the heart of Khwai, one of the most unspoilt areas on the continent? You may feel a little nervous on the first night in those small beds, but the excitement, pleasure and pride you’ll feel after having ventured so far into the wilderness, to have been so close to wildlife, is second to none. In the parks, rangers are in a league of their own; they know everything there is to know about the flora, fauna and habits of all these organisms, but they are also very attentive to those they are guiding. They adapt their pace, tailor their explanations and select the best viewpoints. Besides, Africa has a self-evident quality that needs no explanation, an innate presence: There, with your children, you stand as equals in the face of wonder.

Your Trip

Your accommodation deserves some attention. At Victoria Falls, the hotel flirts with a colonial aesthetic. In Chobe Park, you are already immersed in an atmosphere of the bush. And that is nothing compared to what awaits you in Khwai, at a remote camp in one of the untouched areas of the region. The level of comfort varies from one stop to the next, but it is always more than adequate for both young and old. Road transfers are in a private, air-conditioned vehicle with an English-speaking driver. Air taxis leave all travellers with lasting memories of Africa. We have arranged a sunset cruise on the Zambezi for you. A lunch with a view and a treetop adventure course near Victoria Falls are also on your agenda. In Chobe and the Okavango, you can go on daily safaris, with the format being decided on site according to your wishes and interests. And if, along the way, you have an unexpected desire to do something, or if a setback occurs, you have the contact details of our Concierge on site to help you.

They will love…

All the animals, up close; sleeping in a tent, out in the bush; flying over elephants in a tiny plane; eating mopane worms - just kidding!; the roar of Victoria Falls; the peace of sunsets on the Zambezi; the rangers, who are very friendly; learning the names of different species: cheetah, baboon, crane…; the colours, the smells, the sounds; telling stories about your day in the evening by the fire; the swimming pools; the unique sounds of the bush at night; the starry sky…

For this trip, we recommend that children are at least six years old.

Itinerary

100% customisable for you

Night on board, arrival the next day.

On arrival, welcome and private transfer to your hotel in a peaceful area a few miles from the majestic Victoria Falls. Check in for two nights at this beautiful lodge with colonial inspiration and contemporary charm. Surrounded by gardens, the attractive buildings Set within gardens, the pretty buildings house spacious, elegant and comfortable rooms - ideal for families. In an atmosphere celebrating the region’s cultural diversity, you can enjoy the restaurant terrace serving generous local cuisine. Parents can relax in the garden while the children make the most of the pool.

In your itinerary, evening - Private sunset cruise on the Zambezi. A wonderful outing on the water aboard a small boat, from which the whole family can admire the beauty of the river with a drink in hand. Along the banks, African wildlife comes down to drink, appearing in the golden light of dusk. Expect an unforgettable, dreamlike experience - the first of many.

Victoria Falls is one of the most spectacular natural sites in the world, an essential stop for travellers of all ages passing through southern Africa. “Discovered” in the late 19th century by David Livingstone, the falls sit at the heart of what was once a British colony. From the old steam train to the architecture of certain hotels and buildings, reminders of that past remain, when the continent was still seen as unknown territory and the promise of grand adventures...
In your itinerary - Treetop adventure above the Zambezi. Embark on a course featuring a rope bridge and nine zip lines, some stretching up to 279 feet (85 metres) long, offering stunning views of the river and Victoria Falls.
Also included - To recover from the excitement, you'll have lunch at one of the area’s landmark cafés, on a panoramic terrace. Afterwards, the rest of the day is free to explore Victoria Falls National Park and its rainforest at your own pace.

In the morning, you leave Zimbabwe behind and head for the wide open spaces of neighbouring Botswana. A private driver takes you to the Kasane border post and assists with customs formalities. You then continue along the Chobe River, already an opportunity to spot wildlife and point it out to the children, before reaching your base for the next few days, close to the natural border with Namibia. Check in for two nights at a camp perched on a rocky promontory overlooking the river, in a quieter section of Chobe National Park. The well-appointed bungalows feature stylish décor that showcases natural materials. As a bonus, the balcony directly overlooks the bush or the river, so you can watch the wildlife even in your pyjamas! All communal areas are outward-facing, and the swimming pool also enjoys sweeping views over the surrounding landscape.

The northernmost park in Botswana, Chobe covers around 4,517 sq miles (11,700 km²) and is true elephant territory, home to an estimated 45,000 individuals and some of the largest herds in Africa. From May until the first rains, usually in November, groups of more than 200 elephants, females and calves together, can often be seen near the river, bathing in the blue waters. But elephants are far from the only residents of these fertile plains. At night, the tents resonate with the roars of lions and the grunts of hippos. Buffalo gather in their hundreds beneath the trees, crocodiles patrol the riverbanks, and countless antelope sustain the predators hidden in the grasses, as well as the wider cast of scavengers, including hyenas and vultures.
In your itinerary - Two family safari outings per day: one land-based safari in specially adapted 4x4 vehicles, and one water-based safari. On the first, your guide reads tracks on the ground, listens for alarm calls from baboons and antelope, and watches waterholes where animals may congregate. On the second, you glide along the Chobe River by motorboat, close enough to splash elephants and hippos as they cool off, while observing riverside wildlife and a wide variety of birds. Each approach offers a different perspective and focuses on animals that have grown accustomed to human curiosity.

Today, you travel deep into the heart of Botswana, towards one of the planet’s rarest ecosystems - the extraordinary Okavango Delta. By 4x4, a driver first takes you back to Kasane. On the airstrip, a small bush plane is waiting to fly low over the delta’s winding channels towards your camp, occasionally landing along the way to drop off other travellers before taking off again. The experience is always memorable, particularly when skimming just above herds of giraffe or elephant.

Check in for three nights at a superb camp set beneath the trees on the banks of the Khwai River. The river is all that separates the private concession where you are staying from the iconic Moremi Game Reserve, home to hippos, elephants and lions. You and your children will quickly settle into a spacious family tent. Here too, the focus is on exploring the bush and sharing adventures with the family, with 4x4 safaris by day or by night, guided walks, birdwatching outings, and more. Watching animals navigate both land and water is a remarkable experience, even for seasoned safari-goers. A communal lounge, shared dining area, bar and a circle of chairs around a crackling campfire each evening give travellers a place to come together and exchange bush stories.

On the map of Botswana, Khwai is a destination in its own right, often overlooked in favour of its better-known neighbours... and all the better for it! Close to the Okavango Delta’s floodplains and the mouth of the Okavango River, it's a prime area for observing local wildlife. Here, you encounter not only storybook landscapes - a mosaic of channels, pools and islands - but also extraordinary wildlife few ever hope to see in the wild: lions, leopards, cheetahs, antelope, giraffes, buffalo, warthogs, hippos and crocodiles. Children won't be the only ones left wide-eyed.

From the window of the small bush plane carrying you to Maun airport, at the gateway to the delta, you take a final look at this unforgettable corner of the world, a place very few people will ever have the chance to experience. You then board your international return flight. Night on board, arrival the next day.

À la carte

This suggested itinerary can be customisable down to the smallest detail, including duration, stops and content. An à la carte menu of experiences is also available to create a journey that reflects who you are.

With a Few Extra Days - the Kalahari Desert

The lodge consists of just a few buildings made of clay, wood and thatch. Rustic but chic. Fatbikes - mountain bikes with extra-wide tyres - are available for guests to use to get to the “communal house”. Here, you are served breathtaking Franco-Botswanan cuisine: fine art in a vast desert. Safaris take place in the morning and evening, either by car or on foot. The savannah is bristling with zebras and blue wildebeest, with gemsbok gazelles proudly displaying their long V-shaped horns. Lions keep a watchful eye over everything. As do brown hyenas. We also focus on smaller animals. Such as the amusing meerkats, who stand guard anxiously at the entrances to their burrows. Honey badgers and mongooses appear quite ordinary compared to the peculiar-looking aardvark, which could be described as a small pig with rabbit ears! The Gcwihaba Caves are both a geological gift to travellers and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Going on a hike through the savannah with a Bushman guide lets you unearth many hidden aspects of this unique ecosystem.
