Kyrgyzstan travel

A trip to Kyrgyzstan is something of a journey for the initiated. The mountains seemed to cast their shadow, to block the horizon, to keep everything to themselves, far from the sea. But not at all – the Kyrgyz mountains shelter their jewels: the Inylchek glacier, one of the longest in the world, the huge petroglyph site of Saimaly-Tash, the giant lake Issyk-Kul which, in secret, is worth an entire ocean, with beaches and little cabins along its shore. They also shelter the nomads, their inalienable freedom – winged horses, moving felt homes. Even the arts are intangible: improvised poems carried off by the wind, melodic duels to the sound of the komuz, the three-string Kyrgyz mandolin. The initiated are lucky. Read more
