In South Africa, Egypt, Morocco and Brazil: the five Voyageurs Houses represent the very spirit of our vision of hospitality. Small properties, each with a unique personality, that convey a part of the country’s history and culture.
True to the spirit of our Voyageurs Houses, the accommodation selected by our travel specialists reflects three core values: diversity, aesthetics, and respect for both the environment and local communities. Through this lens, our specialists continually scan the horizon of possibilities, from small guesthouses to historic palaces, from ephemeral camps to architect-designed villas. Our selection is guided by that intangible quality that makes all the difference between the impersonal and a firm favourite. A criterion that is never limited to luxury. Chosen for their setting, the approach of their owners, and their innovative character, these hundreds of accommodation options are regularly tested to offer the most refined selection possible according to each traveller’s profile and wishes.
Among the hundreds of accommodations offered across all our destinations, five belong to Voyageurs du Monde. This concept of ownership is only relevant because it represents our desire to sustainably preserve unique places. Each time, the process involved meticulous restoration carried out over several years, guided by experts: engineers, architects, historians, curators and decorators. Objective: to restore without ever altering the original character. These long-term projects highlight local expertise and materials, as well as the employment of local people under favourable conditions. Finally, specific measures are implemented to reduce the carbon footprint of each of these establishments. The most compelling example remains the Steam Ship Sudan, the flagship of our Voyageurs Houses and the emblem of the brand. Recently, the century-old steamboat underwent a genuine energy revolution. New work on its electricity production installation (solar panels, latest-generation generators, recycled batteries), as well as on the engine system, allows for an annual saving of 800 tonnes of CO2. Overall, this historic vessel has reduced its carbon footprint fourfold since its first restoration in 2001. For our travellers, these Voyageurs Houses are a wonderful way to help preserve both the past and the future, while staying in an exceptional setting.
