Transfer and check in for two nights in Mala Strana, just beneath the castle, in a charming building wrapped in Virginia creeper. From the moment you enter, a sense of refinement greets you, with a design that tastefully blends historic architecture and furnishings, reflecting Prague’s great eras, and a fresh contemporary spirit. Each room has been individually decorated, with its own unique character. Yet all share the same level of comfort and a cosy atmosphere. Breakfast is served on the ground floor. This consists of a classic Czech-style breakfast, made with excellent ingredients. It’s an excellent way to start a day of sightseeing, which begins at your doorstep.
Already scheduled - - Private tour of the old town. With a guide, you begin at Obecni dum, the Municipal House. This masterpiece of the Prague Secession style is accessible on foot via Vaclavske namesti. Optional - Holesovice in private.
Pick up your rental car and drive to , which you are free to visit at your own pace. In the Middle Ages, it was the city of silver. The amazing work by Peter Parler (St Vitus Cathedral, Prague) and Benedikt Rejt (Vladislav Hall, Prague Castle) is dedicated to Saint Barbara, the patron saint of miners. You can also admire the imposing façade of the Jesuit college: the Counter-Reformation was not taken lightly here. Sedlec is very close by. There you’ll find the baroque ossuary of the Cistercian Chapel of All Saints, which creates striking that challenges modern sensibilities that have forgotten Ezekiel 37:1-14. Across the street, the Church of the Assumption is a renowned example of Jan Blazej Santini-Aichel’s Gothic-Baroque style. On the square, in front of the church, there is an amazing inn.
In Mikulov, stay for two night in the old Jewish quarter, where hotel is well maintained. The décor mainly highlights the building’s structure. The dining room, set in the vaulted cellars, is particularly striking. The rooms are simple but comfortable. Beyond these appealing features, the charm of the hotel comes alive at the table. The main restaurant serves modern and flavourful Czech cuisine with Jewish influences. The brasserie serves beer and local pub grub. The wine cellar invites you to discover the best of Moravian wine.
Mikulov is a wine centre. It is also a charming little town with a long history. From the 15th century onwards, Jews settled there, establishing a stable community that gained real influence, particularly through its yeshivot schools. Today, a few houses and a synagogue built in the 18th century remain. These are remnants of a chapter of history to which the castle also belongs. To the east of Mikulov lies Lednice, whose palace and park are listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites. The palace created an architectural loop from Gothic to Neo-Gothic, passing through every possible style in between. The result is spectacular. The large landscaped park began its history during the Renaissance, reaching its final form - like the castle- in the 19th century. The Moorish minaret, completed in 1802, stands as a romantic tribute to the Islamic contribution to the art of gardens. Visiting and strolling here are charming and evoke a world at the heart of the European imagination.
Optional - Private tour of Brno .
Travel to Telc, stopping along the way at the old Jewish quarter of Trebic which provides a fascinating counterpart to Mikulov. Overnight stay on the edge of the old town, in a beautiful 18th-century building. The conversion into a hotel was carried out with great care, creating a particularly welcoming atmosphere. Historic and rustic elegance can be found throughout. In summer, the lovely dining room opens onto a terrace. The two bowling lanes are an entertaining feature.
Telc is simple to explore. There is a large triangular square with a 15th-century gate-tower at one end, and the castle and church at the other. All are surrounded by water. The houses alternate pastel-coloured Renaissance and Baroque façades. Church spires pierce the blue sky, reminiscent of a Josef Lada drawing. From atop her column, the Virgin Mary casts a benevolent gaze over passers-by. The castle embodies all the delicate charm of a provincial, rustic Renaissance. Here, the beer delights with a refreshing, sparkling lightness.
Drive to Blizsi Lhota, on the shores of Lake Lipno. Along the way, you can stop at Hluboka Castle, romantic enough to serve as the setting of Borivoj Zeman's 1952 classic fairy-tale film, The Proud Princess. Stay for two nights in a modern serviced apartment hotel, where the decor subtly blends vintage touches with a country-style atmosphere. Everything here is carefully considered. And the facilities are impeccable. Your apartment is well equipped, offering all the practical amenities you might need. On site, you'll also find saunas, steam bath, massage services and baths (with peat, honey, herbs, etc.). It's ideal for relaxing every muscle and joint after a long walk. A terrace invites you to linger over a long aperitif in the gentle evening air.
Already scheduled You can explore the lake by kayak, sailing boat or motorboat. You can also venture into the countryside, on foot or by bike along small roads lined with apple trees, fields of peas, and ponds where carp leap and play. However, a visit to Cesky Krumlov is essential. And with a private guide. The city, once known as Krumau by its mainly German inhabitants, is now a UNESCO World Heritage site. The castle rises above the old town with its winding lanes, lined with Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque buildings. The whole scene epitomises Central European romanticism. After climbing the steep path leading to the hrad, you pass through a series of courtyards to reach the gardens and visit an exceptional theatre.
Drive to Marianske Lazne. Stay for two nights in the upper part of the city. A beautiful park filled with trees surrounds the hotel. The view from here is stunning. White, spacious and elegant, the building, dating back to 1911, evokes the twilight of the Belle Époque. A period that certainly had style. Inside, echoes e of the original ornamentation have been restored with care. In shades of bronze, grey, green, blue and gold, the rooms show the same aesthetic choices. They are comfortable and well equipped. The kitchens serve hearty Czech dishes in three dining rooms. The bar embraces a British style. The spa, as befits a spa town, offers top-notch facilities set in an elegant mosaic decor. Take a swim in the columned pool, play tennis, go cycling, or head to the nearby golf course. In winter, the area is perfect for skiing. In any season, all you need to do is walk down the hill to enjoy the charms of Marienbad and its colonnade.
Already scheduled Private - Private our of Karlovy Vary. This is the other spa town. It has thirteen hot, sulphurous springs, taken under the colonnades using a small swan-necked vessel. The Czechs say there is another spring, from which the famous Becherovka liqueur flows. A guide will lead you along the Tepla River, where colourful façades reflect the typical imperial and royal style. The Grandhotel Pupp, a monument in its own right, famously appeared in “Casino Royale” (James Bond No 21). The Catholic Church of Saint Mary Magdalene was designed by Kilian Ignaz Dientzenhofer (1689-1751), the architect of St Nicholas in Mala Strana, Prague, and the Orthodox Church of Saints Peter and Paul was designed by Gustav Wiedermann (1850-1914), architect of St Vladimir in Mariánské Lázne. Take the funicular for a bird's eye view of the city! Oplatky, wafer biscuits shaped like vinyl records, are one of Karlovy Vary’s specialities and a delightful snack to enjoy on the go.
Drive to Prague. Return the car and travel back.
