From Saint Martin, it's just a short hop to the British Virgin Islands. Although Columbus named them the Virgin Islands (despite the presence of tribes) out of disappointment at not finding gold, five centuries later, the forests of Tortola, the mangroves of Beef Island, the grey rocky pearls of Virgin Gorda, and the underwater world of Anegada are the true treasures of the “Virgins”. Not to mention the dazzling beaches, lush countryside, and a thoughtful approach to tourism - open to yachts, luxury hotels, and champagne baths, yet still giving pride of place to rum bars and driftwood shacks that favour the gentle breeze of a fan over air conditioning. Add to that tales of pirates and enslaved people, a touch of old empire, the delicious taste of butternut soup, grilled red snapper or lobster, and a painkiller cocktail, all enhanced by a Creole atmosphere: it’s a (virgin) paradise. Your discovery of this paradise unfolds in two stages: first, a stay on a hotel island, set in an elegant and environmentally respectful setting, followed by a roving exploration aboard a private catamaran sailing from island to island. In short, the best of both worlds, for a unique experience of the Caribbean.

Guana Island

This island hotel is our favourite in the British Virgin Islands archipelago. From Trellis Bay on Beef Island (laying off of Tortola), a ten-minute boat ride is all it takes to set the tone. You dock at a wooden pier set at the end of White Bay Beach, the island’s largest beach, with its perfect curve and powdery sand. The staff welcomes you and drives you in an electric cart to the main house - your first panoramic views. This is a cosy gathering place where guests come together to share meals on the veranda, read in the lounge, or help themselves to a fresh juice. All around, white houses and cottages with one or more bedrooms, surrounded by tropical vegetation, are scattered across the heights of the island. Each offers stunning views, secluded corners, and, in most cases, swimming pools. A single cottage sits right at the water’s edge on one of the island’s many secret beaches - perfect for those seeking complete privacy. The interiors are refined, bright, airy and cosy. Time passes peacefully on the island - whether you are relaxing on the sand or your private terrace, enjoying water activities such as diving, kayaking or paddleboarding, exploring the island’s trails, having a revitalising massage, or joining a restorative yoga session. In the evening, sip a cocktail at the water’s edge or up in the island’s hills, meet new people or gather with friends around flavourful cuisine - for which the island’s organic orchard is the main supplier - enjoy an outdoors film screening, then retreat to the privacy of your room or private villa, ready to start again the next day.

Your private cruise

Five days and four nights of island-hopping let you discover the essentials of the British Virgin Islands archipelago, all in exceptional conditions - aboard your private catamaran. With family or friends, this boat is yours - your floating home for sailing from one tiny island to the next. Sailing times alternate with periods spent docked, discovering the treasures of the islands or having dinner on land. Whenever you wish, you can also set off on a kayak or paddleboard trip, try your hand at dragnet fishing or water skiing, or explore the seabed with masks and snorkels… From one island to the next, days pass peacefully, marked by highlights and gentle moments of freedom.

Itinerary

100% customisable for you

Flight to Saint Martin, then a short hop to Beef Island, the gateway to the British Virgin Islands. Meet and greet at the airport, then a quick private transfer by car, then boat to Guana Island (10 minute crossing). Stay for four nights on the island. 2,100 acres (850 hectares) of wild nature, seven beaches, mountains bedecked in dense vegetation and gardens full of colourful flowers are the exclusive domain of guests. Pink flamingos laze on the vast saltwater lagoon, shy iguanas cross the trails and there's even an orchard. The whitewashed cottages blend into the landscape and only 35 very lucky guests can stay on the island at any one time. It's an intimate and exclusive experience.

Things to do and experience - Relax on the beach at White Bay, or try one of the island's six other beaches; head out to sea for a while and do some snorkelling or water-skiing; go kayaking or try stand-up paddleboarding; watch a film outdoors under the stars; visit the island's organic orchard followed by a tasting, or explore the small museum and learn about the island and its biodiversity; visit the resort's donkeys and help their carers; enjoy an early morning yoga session or a massage at the end of the day.
In your itinerary - A guided hike along the island's trails. As you walk, you come across the ruins of the sugar cane plantation and the stone foundations of the Lake House, before reaching the summit of Sugarloaf Mountain (804 feet [245 metres]) for breathtaking views of the surrounding islands. The trail continues to Long Man's Point, where you can descend the stone staircase carved into the cliff to swim in the natural pools.

Return transfer to Beef Island, where you head to Tortola marina to board your private catamaran for the next five days.

Highlights include - Sipping the iconic Painkiller cocktail at the legendary Soggy Dollar Bar on Jost Van Dyke; stopping off at the Callwood Rum Distillery in Tortola, originally owned by a buccaneer; swimming out to Norman Island, the inspiration for the legendary Treasure Island; discovering the Baths on Virgin Gorda from the sea, with their Seychelles like rock formations, natural pools bathed in light and coral-fringed caves; your dinners reserved at restaurants on the harbour; savouring lobster barefoot in the sand; and swimming with turtles at Copper Island.

Return to Beef Island, where the cruise ends. Disembark, then private transfer from the marina to the airport. Flight to Saint Martin, then flight home. Night on board, arrival the following day.

À la carte

This suggested itinerary can be customisable down to the smallest detail, including duration, stops and content. An à la carte menu of experiences is also available to create a journey that reflects who you are.

A cruise that is even more exclusive

During your 5-day cruise, you can choose an all-inclusive package: on board, in addition to your private skipper, you will also be accompanied by a chef-hostess who will prepare your meals, share their culinary expertise and knowledge of the region, and ensure the highest quality of service.

With a few more days… the Anegada reserve

If you are not pressed for time, you can extend your private cruise by a few nights to reach a wonderful geological exception: Anegada. This coral atoll, just above sea level, is 19 km (12 miles) long and just under 5 km (3 miles) wide, rising to only 9 metres (28 feet) in altitude. Isolated from its sister islands in the northeast of the British Virgin Islands, Sunken Island (literally “drowned island”) is the second largest island in the archipelago. Salt ponds, pristine beaches, pink flamingos, Jeep rides, tasting lobster by the water’s edge - a truly beautiful change of perspective.
