100% customisable travel idea
Switzerland - Lucerne - Lenzerheide - Lugano - Locarno
100% customisable for you
Train to Zurich, where you collect your rental car. Drive to Lucerne and settle in for two nights on the shores of Lake Lucerne, views of which you can enjoy throughout your stay, thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows that open directly onto the lake. Inside, you'll find contemporary décor and design, with exceptionally comfortable rooms. In the restaurant, it's all about classic cuisine and expert techniques, with meals enjoyed on the terrace in fine weather. The bar follows the same principle of elegance. The private beach is just beyond the garden, offering canoeing, pedalos and paddleboarding for the more active guests. Naturally, others will prefer to relax, take a boat trip, or enjoy a luxury spa experience.
Optional - Guided tour of Lucerne in the footsteps of a local.
In your itinerary - Cruise on the lake. Passengers board the boat for a cruise across the lake to Beckenried. Along the way, you'll skirt idyllic bays and the steep cliffs of Lake Lucerne. Snowy Alpine peaks are mirrored in deep-blue waters. A moment suspended in time.
Also included - Ascent of Mount Pilatus by cogwheel train. Standing at over 6,890 feet (2,100 metres), Mount Pilatus is a true symbol of the Lucerne region. To reach the summit from Alpnachstad, you travel through forests, meadows and rocky terrain aboard the world’s steepest cogwheel railway - gradients can reach 48%! At the top, the panorama is unforgettable, stretching across a good portion of the Alps. The descent to Kriens is by “Dragon Ride” cable car and a panoramic gondola whose design is inspired by cockpits. Thanks to its vast windows, it offers stunning views over Lucerne and the lake.
Optional - Vineyard stroll and tasting of regional cheeses.
Drive to Lenzerheide and settle in for three nights amid alpine pastures, just outside the town. Your hotel is part of a hamlet made up of historic farmhouses and barns, some over 300 years old. While the façades have kept their old-world charm, the interiors have been fully reimagined, now featuring tasteful design touches highlighted by local materials - especially stone and wood. A spa and a gourmet restaurant are available on site.
Not to be missed - The summit of Parpaner Rothorn, where a panoramic platform looks out over the region's magnificent peaks. To reach it, you take a first cable car from Lake Heid, initially bringing you to the edge of the woods on the Scharmoin alpine pasture. The (steep) climb continues to the western summit of Parpaner Rothorn, rising to over 9,380 feet (2,860 metres). Here you’ll find a restaurant (also panoramic) with an appealing sun-drenched terrace, and several well-maintained hiking trails. They lead back to Lenzerheide or Arosa. A more daring option: descend by mountain bike via the freeride track.
Optional - A couples massage at your hotel spa; a private e-bike ride in Graubünden.
Drive to Lugano.
To see en route - Bellinzona and its Tre Castelli. Bellinzona is arguably Switzerland’s most Italian city. Visitors love to stroll from square to square and past beautifully restored old houses - eloquent witnesses to the Lombard city’s rich past. The Tre Castelli (three castles) are emblems of the city, and offer a marvellous viewpoint over the surrounding mountains, with vistas stretching as far as Lake Maggiore.
Check in for two nights in the pedestrian area around Piazza Cioccaro, just a few steps from Lake Lugano. The hotel’s shared spaces, furnished and decorated in contemporary style, provide a pleasing transition between outdoors and in, as do the balconies in certain rooms that open onto rooftops and peaks. The restaurant offers a contemporary take on the bistro concept, with signature cocktails and aesthetic, carefully executed dishes with minimalist names, made with products as local as possible.
Just a few miles from the Italian border, the timeless charm of Lugano works its magic instantly. Its colourful façades form a picture-perfect scene against peaks reflected in the lake. Wander at leisure through lively little streets and along the paths of Parco Ciani or around the Natural History Museum.
Already included - A cruise on Lake Lugano. Gliding across the lake’s waters at an unhurried pace, it's the perfect way to take in all the riches of the lakeside towns: grand villas, Romanesque bell towers and small fishing villages like Morcote - one of Switzerland’s most beautiful. Morcote is split into two parts, one by the water and the other higher up, and is also known for its picturesque arcaded houses and charming medieval cobbled streets.
Drive to Locarno, a charming enclave on the northern shore of Lake Maggiore. This prime location has the added bonus of a very pleasant microclimate and a wonderful natural setting. With over 2,300 hours of sunshine a year, Locarno is in fact Switzerland’s brightest town. It's a brilliant asset, nicely complemented by the narrow lanes opening onto Piazza Grande, made famous by the film festival - one of the oldest in the world - that takes place here each year.
Check in for two nights at a modern hotel ideally located right on the shores of Lake Maggiore. Your bright, comfortable room also has a wonderful view of the sparkling waters and the surrounding peaks. You can explore the area by bike, if you wish, as the property provides bicycles for its guests.
Not to be missed - Val Verzasca, one of Ticino’s most beautiful valleys. From Gordola to Sonogno, the river’s emerald waters wind for 16 miles (25 km) through the cliffs. The scenery is stunning, best enjoyed on the path that follows the river along the old mule track. It's a charming route, dotted with ancient farmhouses, little chapels, waterfalls and flower-filled meadows…
See & do - Stroll through the Città Vecchia, brimming with cafés, boutiques, and handsome buildings with colourful façades that attest to the city’s long-standing appeal. Highlights include grand patrician residences, Piazza Grande, churches and Castello Visconteo - an imposing 12th-century fortress whose medieval stones now house an archaeological museum.
