100% customisable travel idea
Peru - Bolivia - Chile
100% customisable for you
Welcome at the airport, private transfer and overnight stay opposite the airport. It’s nothing picturesque, but it’s a modern and functional building offering all the guarantees of reliability and facilities, including 24-hour spa and restaurant, swimming pool, etc. This means you can recharge your batteries at the start of your adventure.
Private transfer to the airport, then flight to Cuzco. Another transfer to Urubamba, in the heart of the Sacred Valley, and delivery of the Boleto Turistico General. Stay for two nights in the southern part of the village. The hotel's contemporary Andean architecture generously welcomes light. Inside, the furniture is made of white wood that is light and pleasant. The rooms are bright and clean and easy to live in. You can enjoy the view of the landscape from the window. The buildings are surrounded by a garden, where it is nice to gather in the evening around the fire. An Andean-style breakfast is served from five o'clock. Early risers won't want to miss a minute! The small spa also offers welcome relaxation for bodies worn out by long days of sightseeing.
Already on your itinerary - In a car with a driver, you begin your exploration of the Valley with the Maras salt pans, whose thousands of pools form a strange, honeycomb-like white landscape. You also pass by the concentric terraces of the Inca agricultural research centre at Moray. The facility made it possible to artificially reproduce different climatic conditions and therefore develop protocols for acclimatising foreign plants.
On your itinerary - Local markets bring everyone together in a riot of intense colours, and the highland Indians are recognisable by their red ponchos. Once again, you set off on a tour by car with a driver. Starting with Pisaq: market (fresh cheese, chicken, herbs, bread, cabbage, guinea pigs, corn and potatoes of all kinds), centuries-old agricultural terraces and Inca citadel. At the other end of the valley is the fortified site of Ollantaytambo, which is a magnificently preserved example of Inca urban planning.
Private transfer to Ollantaytambo station and train to Aguas Calientes, a small station serving as a springboard to Machu Picchu. Upon arrival, check in for the night at a modern and friendly hotel, where you will appreciate the contemporary décor designed with recycled materials, the comfortable and cosy rooms, and the exemplary fresh cuisine. In the evening, head to the bar to enjoy some tapas accompanied by a local Pisco in a relaxed and informal atmosphere. The hotel also has a 100% organic spa with a heated swimming pool, sauna and hydromassage showers: perfect for unwinding after a day of exploration.
On your itinerary - A visit to Machu Picchu with a private guide. The citadel of Pachacutec is such an astonishing feat of engineering that it leaves you speechless. The beauty of the mountains, the scale of the design, the logistics and engineering required to build it, the religious fervour and, finally, the genius displayed by the Incas here are beyond comprehension. Amazement, in the strongest sense of the word!
On your itinerary - In the morning, another free visit to the suspended city to make sure you didn't dream it the night before (second ticket included) and climb of Machu Picchu Mountain. From the summit, there is a splendid panoramic view of the Machu Picchu citadel and the surrounding mountains, including the summit of Huayna Picchu and the Urubamba River. The ascent consists of stone staircases, a trail, and natural steps that are sometimes very high and uneven, and takes 3 hours and 30 minutes (elevation gain: approximately 650 m (2,130 feet)
. Return train to descend to Poroy, then private transfer to Cusco. Stay for three nights three blocks from the Plaza de Armas, in the old town. Peruvian folk art has given the hotel a cheerful atmosphere and delightful colours. Each room looks like a pop of Andean bouquet. The facilities are nonetheless very well designed and comfortable. Breakfast sets you up for the day ahead: your spirits lifted by the décor and your body fuelled with energy.
The navel of the world, the city was probably founded by the Killke a century before the arrival of the Incas. The Incas expanded it and made it the capital of their empire. The Spanish partially destroyed it, but founded their own Cuzco, Ciudad Noble y Grande, on top of it. The encounter between Andean culture and Baroque effervescence produced astonishing results, which still seem to determine the codes of the Cuzco way of life.
On the itinerary - Cuzco, capital of Tahuantinsuyu, the Inca empire. Accompanied by a private guide, visit the Catedral de la Asunción de la Santísima Virgen, which dates from the 16th and 17th centuries, and the Temple of the Sun, Qoricancha, on whose foundations the Santo Domingo convent has stood since the 16th century. You can also visit the sacred site of Qenqo, which is four miles (six kilometres) north-east of Cuzco, and Puca Pucara, the red fortress, which is a military structure that was part of the capital's defence system. In the distance, the snow-capped peaks of Ausangate glisten in the clear air. Then, to complete the tour, visit Tambomachay, the Inca baths (whose function is uncertain, but which feature elaborate hydraulic systems) and Sacsayhuaman, which is among the most impressive Inca ruins. This triple zigzag wall in the shape of a puma's head is a tour de force. The assembly of the monoliths that make up the walls is of cyclopean precision.
Optional - A cooking workshop.
Private transfer to the airport and flight to La Paz.
On your itinerary - Meet your private guide for the next two days and private transfer to the small town of Copacabana, nestled on the shores of Lake Titicaca. Visit the Church of Our Lady (17th century), a beautiful immaculate building that houses the Virgen de la Candelaria, patron saint of Bolivia and central devotion of the country. The statue of the Virgin was carved from agave wood by the sculptor Francisco Tito Yupanqui (1550-1616), a descendant of the Inca Huayna Capac. It is a major witness to the Christianisation of the Andes. Next, board a private motorboat and sail towards Isla de la Luna. After climbing alongside terraced crops, you will reach the Iñakuyu Temple, or Temple of the Virgins of the Sun. Continue towards Isla del Sol, which is considered the cradle of Inca culture. Visit the archaeological site of Pillkokayna. Spend the night in a simple but comfortable eco-lodge, which has been built in perfect harmony with its surroundings using traditional Andean architectural techniques - stone, mud and straw. The lodge uses solar energy for heating and hot water in the chalets. The setting is magnificent, with breathtaking views of the lake.
On your itinerary - Visit the Sacred Spring with its three waters and the Inca gardens, built in terraces. Traditional Apthapi lunch in a small bay on the island, then return trip to Copacabana.
Next, private transfer to La Paz by road along the Cordillera Real mountain range and stay for two nights at a hotel in the Rosario neighbourhood. The establishment is elegant and features a harmonious colour scheme. The rooms overlook pretty patios with pebble floors. The famous Witches' Market is not far away, nor is the Basilica of Saint Francis.
On your itinerary - La Paz and the Valley of the Moon. First, discover the city's major monuments: the Palacio Quemado (the presidential palace or burnt palace, in reference to the uprising of 1875); the Metropolitan Cathedral of Nuestra Señora de la Paz; the Basilica of Saint Francis, which is a fine example of Andean Baroque; and the Witches' Market, which is frequented by the Aymara Indians in search of the sometimes strange objects of their traditional cult. Next, you travel about six miles (ten kilometres) outside the city walls to admire the lacework of erosion in the Valley of the Moon. Fairy chimneys, thread-like peaks, endless variations of ochre... the landscape is literally fantastical.
Optional - The pre-Columbian ceremonial site of Tiwanaku.
Private transfer to the airport and flight to Uyuni.
On your itinerary - Meet your private driver and head to the largest salt desert in the world: 4,087 square miles (10,582 km²), 64 billion tonnes of salt, and significant lithium reserves. It’s a landscape with one dimension, and a colour that’s not really a colour - an immense sheet of intense white beneath a vast blue sky. The route is dizzyingly flat. It is reassuring to find Incahuasi Hill (House of the Inca) and its giant candelabra cacti along the way, breaking up the abstract effect of the salt flat. Continue west to the village of San Pedro de Quemez, where you will spend the night in a comfortable volcanic stone refuge.
On your itinerary - Drive to Paseo del Leon, where large clumps of llareta (Azorella compacta) provide a green counterpoint to the ochre of the canyon. Small lakes with surprisingly colourful waters between 4,000 and 4,200 m. You arrive at the Siloli desert, the antechamber of the Atacama, at an altitude of 4,600 m, on the edge of the Eduardo Avaroa Wildlife Reserve. The landscape of the high plateau with its changing colours is magnificent. The cottages of the hotel hamlet huddle together to withstand the winds. Their stone walls blend modestly into the general minerality, over which Jarava ichu grows like a beard. To the south-east rises the 6,020 m Uturuncu volcano.
On your itinerary - Early in the morning, you head for the Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve, arriving early at the Sol de Manana geothermal site. There are a hundred mud lakes that hiss and smoke in the icy air. Sud Lipez feels like the dawn of the world with its pungent smells. The day continues from one exceptional natural site to another: the Dali Desert, Laguna Verde, Licancabur Volcano, Laguna Colorada and its flamingo colonies.
Continue to Hito Cajon, the border post between Bolivia and Chile. Assistance with customs clearance and private transfer to San Pedro de Atacama. Stay for four nights in an adobe brick hotel, tightly built to insulate against the desert climate. The rooms are simple and comfortable, equipped with good bathrooms and indirectly lit to avoid excessive heat. There are reed screens outside to provide shade. In the common areas, guests exchange impressions from one sofa to another, cocktail or smoothie in hand. The cuisine is surprisingly sophisticated as the chef spares no expense to do a good job and brings out fine bottles from his cellar to accompany the meal. For added well-being, there is a round swimming pool, hot tub, massages, yoga classes on salt crust.
The Atacama Desert is one of the most extreme in the world. The dry air makes the skies exceptionally clear. San Pedro is an oasis. The village church is one of the oldest in the country, dating back to the 17th century. During these three days, you will visit the Museo Arqueologico R.P. Gustavo Le Paige, which provides a comprehensive overview of the ingenious civilisation of the Atacama Indians. The pre-Columbian sites of Quitor and Tulor are logical additions to the museum. You should also explore the lagoons of the salt flat, whose surface is much less uniform than in Uyuni. They are home to large colonies of pink flamingos. The salt concentration in Laguna Cejar has the same buoyant effect on bodies immersed in it as the Dead Sea. The Valle de la Luna, west of San Pedro, in the Los Flamencos reserve, is a tribute to aridity. Early in the morning, the geothermal site of El Tatio’s columns of steam are impressive.
On your itinerary - In addition to a rental car available for exploring at your leisure, an evening of stargazing is planned. You can take advantage of the transparency of the atmosphere with an English-speaking expert on the night sky. A telescope and precise instructions help you make sense of the enormous swarm of stars, adding intelligence to the emotion they inspire.
Drive to Calama airport and return the car. Flight to Santiago, then private transfer to Valparaiso. Stay for two nights at Cerro Alegre, in the former home of English marine painter Thomas Somerscales (1842-1927). The charming residence has been restored and some rooms have been furnished in keeping with the natural yet sophisticated lifestyle that the British have always known how to enjoy. No swimming pool or spa, but an urban cottage where you can cocoon yourself while nibbling on homemade cakes and drinking tea. And the bustling harbour is just a stone's throw away.
This large Chilean port has been a legendary destination since the days of sailing ships. On the slopes of the hills (Cerros) that form a beautiful natural amphitheatre, small colourful houses covered with corrugated iron seem to be stacked on top of each other along steep, winding streets. You can reach the top by taking the historic ascensores, funicular railways, the first of which was built in 1883 on Cerro Concepcion.
Already planned - A street art tour with a woman living in Valparaiso. Albane graduated the École du Louvre and left France to travel the world and indulge her passion for urban art. Having fallen in love with Valparaiso, she now knows all its secrets and anecdotes. She will take you on a wander around the streets of the city, from the Alegre and Concepcion hills to the popular old port district. This is an opportunity to get to know some of the artists and stories behind the city's most beautiful murals and to visit the main art galleries. It’s a wonderful insight into Valparaiso's contemporary art scene.
Private transfer to Santiago airport and international return flight. Night on board, arrival the next day.
