Itinerary highlights

  • Well-planned stop overs, a range of activities, independent rooms: a trip tailored to the pace and wishes of older children.
  • Train, boat, hiking, cuisine, markets: a varied and full programme
  • Mobile app with GPS, private transfers, on-site Concierge service - the extra Voyageurs touch
Visiting Peru with your teenagers guarantees an active, well-paced trip, with enough time to enjoy each place and its atmosphere, to acclimatise to the altitude, and sometimes to rest. Guides will act as knowledgeable intermediaries everywhere between travelling families and a country they know like the back of their hand. At each major stop over, nature activities complement the discovery of Inca culture. Visit the major sites on foot, by car, by train or by boat: this is a great way to get your teenagers interested in this vast civilisation, by blending action and culture. Outside this programme, you are free to book a private guide to delve deeper into a particular theme, or to surprise them further with a mountain biking trip or an adventure trek. Busy days that end each evening in comfortable accommodation, where they have their own room (ah, that need for independence - and for parents’ peace and quiet). Finally, the stop overs are designed to minimise transport time and allow for free time - they need that too. Not to mention the assistance of our on-site Concierge for any last-minute changes or wishes.

Your teenagers will love it.

Stroll through Barranco, Lima’s bohemian district, and pick up fun accessories and gifts for friends and yourself; learn to cook and try ceviche, the raw fish dish, along with new kinds of potatoes; venture into the jungle in search of remarkable animals; explore Cuzco, capital of Tahuantinsuyu, the Inca Empire; take a photo in front of the phenomenal Machu Picchu…

Itinerary

100% customisable for you

Private transfer and stay for two nights in the Miraflores district. The hotel offers extra tranquillity with its green patio and touches of colour. You’ll love the slightly pop and bohemian freshness of its décor, its unapologetic references to the art world, its beautiful library with its eclectic selection, and the tranquillity that reigns there. The rooms are comfortable and bright.
The ocean is not far away, nor is the seafront of Barranco, Lima's arts district. Green spaces have been carefully tended throughout the city. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the old quarter of Lima, known as Cercado, offers splendid examples of Spanish colonial architecture, such as the Torre-Tagle Palace (18th century) and San Juan Cathedral (17th century), which houses the tomb of the conquistador Francisco Pizarro.

On your itinerary - A half-day gourmet experience to watch the preparation and taste the most emblematic dishes of Peru, accompanied by a chef. First, head to the market to see the different fish, vegetables and fruits commonly used in Peruvian cuisine. The chef explains the products and how to cook them, and depending on the season, you can sample cherimoya, liana apples and Inca berries on the spot. You go from stall to stall to select the ingredients needed to prepare the recipes, then head to the chef's home to share his best recipes. You then set about preparing Peruvian specialities with him, such as causa limena, lomo saltado, suspiro a la limena for dessert, as well as a typical drink - pisco sour, which is the national aperitif. Once the class is over, it's time to sit down and enjoy these dishes - a wonderful moment of sharing.
Not to be missed - Barranco was a fashionable seaside resort at the turn of the century and one of Lima's trendiest neighbourhoods - visit the Larco Herrera collection, which is housed in a 17th-century viceregal mansion and features ceramics, textiles and goldwork, particularly from communities in northern Peru.

Private transfer to the airport and flight to Puerto Maldonado, where your adventure in the Peruvian Amazon begins.
On your itinerary - A quick tour of the city, then a boat transfer (approximately two hours) to your lodge, where you will stay for three nights. In the heart of a 4,800-hectare ecological reserve on the banks of the Madre de Dios River, you will be cut off from the world, with no telephone or internet connection, and electricity limited to a few hours a day. The bungalows are simple and well maintained. You set off to discover the Peruvian jungle and the Amazonian fauna, flora and population through a rich itinerary of activities. In the afternoon, you head to the Caiman Lagoon to observe small black and white caimans and enjoy a panoramic view of the selva. Return to the lodge, dinner and overnight stay.

On your itinerary - You will travel through a wide variety of ecosystems, from riverside forest to flooded forest, and familiarise yourselves with the local flora and fauna. At Lake Victor, an observation platform allows you to take in the magnificence of the surroundings. You can see many species of birds as well as caimans, turtles and giant otters. Isla de los Monos (Monkey Island) is protected and preserved by your lodge and inhabited by a wide variety of monkeys, from the smallest, such as the “little jungle lion”, to the largest, such as the “maquisapa”.

On your itinerary - A day in the jungle, following the trails to Cocha Perdida, which can be admired from a viewpoint and from the water in a canoe. The “Lost Lagoon” is a refuge and feeding ground for many animals such as black caimans, river turtles, giant otters, sea lions and a wide variety of fish. The jungle is also home to many tropical trees and medicinal plants, as well as many varieties of insects, butterflies and birds.

Return by boat to Puerto Maldonado, then transfer to the airport and flight to Cuzco. Another transfer to Urubamba, in the Sacred Valley. This small town with its discreet charm is the gateway to the valley's highlights and numerous activities. Stay for three nights at a hotel located in the southern part of the town. Its contemporary Andean architecture generously welcomes light. Inside, the furniture is made of white wood that is light and pleasant. The rooms are bright and clean and easy to live in. You can enjoy the view of the landscape from the window. The buildings are surrounded by a garden, where it is nice to gather in the evening around the fire. The small spa offers massages, sauna, jacuzzi and provides welcome relaxation for bodies worn out by long days of sightseeing.

On your itinerary - Tour of Pisaq market. There are many handicrafts on display, with the most important being textiles and ceramics. Visitors can also take the opportunity to visit the archaeological remains overlooking the village. In addition to the historical significance of the site, its appeal also lies in the fact that it overlooks the Urubamba (or Vilcanota) River and offers a unique view of the Sacred Valley. The afternoon is devoted to visiting the Inca fortress of Ollantaytambo, which is a gigantic agricultural, administrative, social, religious and military complex of the Inca Empire.
Optional - Attend a lunch show; set off for the Maras salt pans and Moray terraces by mountain bike; go trekking on the Inca Trail.

On your itinerary - Transfer to Ollantaytambo station and panoramic train to Aguas Calientes/Machu Picchu Pueblo. In the shuttle bus that follows the winding road up to Machi Picchu, you prepare yourselves for the shock. The citadel of Pachacutec is such an incredible feat of engineering that it leaves you speechless. The beauty of the mountains, the scale of the design, the logistics and engineering required to build it, and the vigour and ingenuity demonstrated by the Incas here are beyond comprehension. Amazement, in the strongest sense of the word! To go beyond simple wonder and gain a deeper understanding of the majesty of the surroundings, you’ll have a private guide.
Overnight stay in Aguas Calientes in a modern and friendly hotel. We love its contemporary décor designed with recycled materials, comfortable and cosy rooms, and exemplary fresh cuisine. The hotel also has a spa offering four private treatment rooms, a heated swimming pool, a sauna and hydromassage showers.

Optional - A second entrance to the Citadel with two hiking options, up to Montana Machu Picchu or Huayna Picchu.
Return train from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo then private transfer to Cuzco. Stay for two nights in a charming little hotel on a pretty cobbled street in the centre of the Inca capital. The rooms surround the patio, which is a great place to relax after a day of sightseeing, and offer all the essentials, including comfortable beds and functional furnishings that everyone will appreciate. From the terrace to the reception area, the old and the new come together with taste and simplicity.

The capital of the Incas is still, literally, the foundation of the city as the walls and foundations often date back to pre-Hispanic times and can be seen in various places (especially in the old colonial district of San Blas). On the parade ground stand the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin and the Church of the Society of Jesus, both of which are truly magnificent. One mile (two kilometres) north of Cuzco, the Sacsayhuaman fortress is one of the most impressive Inca ruins. This triple zigzag wall in the shape of a puma's head is a tour de force. The assembly of the monoliths that make up the walls is breathtaking in its cyclopean precision. Inti Raymi, the festival of the sun god Inti, is celebrated here on the winter solstice. On ordinary days, people jog or practise tai chi in the open spaces between the ramparts.
Optional - Private guided tour of the city.

Transfer to the airport, flight to Lima then international return flight. Night on board, arrival the next day.

À la carte

This suggested itinerary can be customisable down to the smallest detail, including duration, stops and content. An à la carte menu of experiences is also available to create a journey that reflects who you are.

Maras Salt Mines and Moray Terraces by mountain bike

The first few hundred metres of the route, which are slightly uphill, reveal the snow-capped peaks of the Urubamba mountain range in the background. Between tracks and trails, short valleys succeed one another before reaching the impressive and mysterious concentric circular terraces of Moray. It is a complex of four main, perfectly circular terraces surrounded by about ten secondary circles, dug into the earth and reminiscent of a Greek theatre. You’ll then discover the agricultural laboratory of the Incas in awe. You’ll also find the breathtaking salt pans of Las Salinas, with 4,000 basins carved into the hillside - some older than the Inca era.
Optional.

Cuzco, capital of the Inca empire

Accompanied by a private guide, visit the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Most Holy Virgin (16th and 17th centuries) and the Temple of the Sun, the Qoricancha, on whose foundations the Santo Domingo convent has stood since the 16th century. You can also visit the sacred site of Qenko, 6 km (4 miles) northeast of Cuzco, and Puca Pucara, the Red Fortress - a military structure that was part of the capital’s defence system. In the distance, the snow-capped peaks of Ausangate gleam in the clear air. Next, to complete the tour, you’ll visit Tambomachay, the Inca bath. Its purpose is uncertain, but it features sophisticated hydraulic systems. And then you’ll move on to Sacsayhuaman, whose triple wall, shaped like a puma’s head, is a remarkable feat.
Optional.

Trek along the Inca Trail

It is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful roads in the Americas. Untamed, unspoiled nature lies between the mountain forest and the Altiplano, linked by a trail that offers breathtaking views. In a spiritual setting, the Incas followed this route as a pilgrimage route from a sacred citadel, Machu Picchu. Let's set off for two days on this historic trail. The trek begins with a visit to the archaeological site of Chachabamba. After about four hours, you’ll arrive at the archaeological complex of Wiñay Wayna, located at 2,650 metres (8,694 feet). It takes its name from a species of small orchid found in the area, which means “forever young”. After lunch, you’ll head to Intipunku (Sun Gate), where you can better appreciate the splendid Machu Picchu. Then you’ll spend the night in Aguas Calientes. The second day is devoted to visiting Machu Picchu. Early in the morning, travel by private shuttle to the citadel to enjoy the site before the crowds, with skip-the-line tickets to save time. Guided tour of the archaeological site. Located in the high Amazonian forest at 2,800 metres, 112 km (70 miles) from Cusco, the stone citadel of Machu Picchu is Peru’s iconic monument. Then, head down towards Aguas Calientes. If the weather allows, visit the thermal baths.
Optional - 2 days/1 night

Lake Titicaca, another myth

Think of the world’s most important lakes - this one will always be among them. And indigenous people still truly live on the water here, on piles of reeds. Many outdoors activities can be arranged: kayaking or canoeing on the lake, nature walks, mountain biking, treks… You can also visit the Copamaya weavers, the chullpas (pre-Inca funerary towers) of Sillustani on Lake Umayo, and the San Pedro Martir Church in Juli. There are also the artificial islands of the Uros Titinos, made from layers of reeds (totora), a famous feature of Lake Titicaca; some are still inhabited, and the traditional spindle-shaped totora boats come and go, transporting tourists as well as local residents. Or perhaps to Taquile, the island where men knit and women weave - and whose textile art is inscribed by UNESCO on the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Optional - 3 days/2 nights.
