Warsaw and Krakow seem mutually essential and representative of Poland, both past and present. During this trip, you’ll test how complementary they are. Starting with Warsaw, the present capital. It is a phoenix city, rebounding with astonishing energy. It draws a sense of historical novelty from this ability that is uniquely its own. You get a sense of it as you stroll around, stepping into shops, art galleries, cafés and restaurants, marvelling at the dignity it lends to faithful restorations or at its ability to absorb the imposing Palac Kultury. Then, Krakow, which suffered less damage, could simply manage its opulent heritage in a more bourgeois way. That would hardly do justice to the touch of aristocratic eccentricity that animates Polish people. The former capital has made youthfulness a way of life. Although it is the kingdom’s reliquary, it is nonetheless attuned to the winds of the world and readily adopts a touch of boldness and international spirit. This suits it. You’ll move from one side to the other of what is one of the most captivating societies in Europe.

Your journey

A historic hotel in Warsaw and an apartment in a historic building in Kraków are your bases. Here and there, you’ll find all the comfort you need, style, and a location that lets you start exploring right from your doorstep. No wasted time, no loss of atmosphere. On this favourable basis, you’ll be the one to decide. To do things your own way. To travel from one city to the next, to take the train. First class makes the journey from one city centre to another especially comfortable - one of the main advantages of this option. To get you started, we have added several appointments to your schedule: a friendly tour of Warsaw and a walking discovery of Krakow’s historical wonders. Private guides will accompany you in both cases. These are indeed famous sites, of course, but they are just as much about Poland as the Polish people experience it. The tables we reserve for you have been chosen with the same intention - to help you get in the swing of things. And if you would like to visit the Chopin Museum or try your hand at local cuisine, just let us know. Along the way, an unexpected whim or a minor setback may arise. If so, you have the contact details of our on-site Concierge service to help you.

Itinerary

100% customisable for you

Private transfer and stay for two nights on the left bank of the Vistula, opposite the Palace of Culture. Your hotel opened its doors in 1913 and has made it through the century without serious damage, which is an astonishing feat in Warsaw. Today, in order to remain true to itself, it continues to adapt its services to the demands of the times. The rooms are spacious, with superior amenities and a relaxing, classic atmosphere. The restaurant serves traditional Polish cuisine, using carefully selected ingredients and world-class techniques. Under the glass roof of the lobby, the bar fulfils its role as a luxury outpost to everyone's satisfaction. The spa is also up to the task.

On your itinerary - Warsaw like a local. Your guide knows Warsaw inside out. There's nothing standard about this meeting: you’ll talk, share our interests and desires, and compare notes from the guides. Are you tempted by the palaces along the Royal Road? Ready to lose yourself in the baroque gardens of Lazienki Park? Intrigued by the Fotoplastikon? Curious about developments on the death metal scene? And what about Polish fashion? Let’s go! You’ll learn so much along the way. If it's tea, vodka or a plate of pierogi you're after, no problem either. With your guide by your side, the city is your oyster. In addition, a table is reserved for you at the National Museum restaurant. The dining room illustrates the elegance and modern flair of Polish design through its lines and tones. On the menu, carp in jelly sits alongside a revisited steak tartare, and leek tart alongside herring with mustard sauce. The Central European wines are a pleasant surprise. It’s confident bistronomy and an excellent time. Afterwards, a charming stroll along the banks of the Vistula is a must.
Optional - A ticket to the Chopin Museum.

Private transfer to the station. Train to Krakow, first class. Another private transfer and stay for three nights just north of Rynek Glowny, the Old Market Square. Your apartment is located in a historic building. The decor combines elements of the old structure with designer furniture in a very contemporary style. The layout is bright and comfortable, the decor elegant. It has a bedroom, living room, equipped kitchen and dining room.
On your itinerary - A table reserved in a retro-chic brasserie listed in the Red Guide. The dining room exudes a keen sense of style. As for the cuisine, it offers a modern and inspired interpretation of Krakow's repertoire. At the table, the old town gets a facelift.

On your itinerary - The old town and Wawel Castle, on foot. A private guide takes you initially to the market square, which is a stone's throw from your home. This has been the nerve centre of Krakow since the Middle Ages. The municipal authorities, the Church, the university and commerce are all concentrated here, with the old town hall and its belfry, St. Mary's Basilica (home to Veit Stoss's magnificent 15th-century altarpiece), the Krakow Academy and the famous Cloth Hall. Then, the symbolic intensity is taken up a notch with Wawel Hill, on which stand the royal palace and the Cathedral of St Stanislaus and St Wenceslaus, which is a pantheon as much as a church. This complex is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A visit to the royal apartments and the cathedral will give you an insight into the heart of Poland.

Of course, there are still lots of other things to see, such as the old Jewish quarter of Kazimierz, which has been renovated and is now a hub of cultural and festive life. Cosmopolitanism is the order of the day here. And Kazimierz should not be confused with the ghetto set up by the Germans during the Second World War on the other side of the Vistula, in Podgorze (where there are many memorial sites). For a counterpoint to the heritage, visit the Museum of Contemporary Art, MOCAK, which gives eminence to Polish visual artists. Above all, enjoy the slightly rebellious creative spirit, that sparkle that Krakow has a special talent for. And then, try a precel, Krakow's version of a pretzel, which is ideal for sustaining you through a day of sightseeing.
Optional - A private cooking class.

Transfer to the airport. Return flight.

À la carte

This suggested itinerary can be customisable down to the smallest detail, including duration, stops and content. An à la carte menu of experiences is also available to create a journey that reflects who you are.

Warsaw - Ticket to the Chopin Museum

Here, one symbol is home to another: the baroque Ostrogski Palace - destroyed during the last war and rebuilt in the 1950s - documents the life and work of Poland’s leading composer. European artistic and political Romanticism finds an attractive, stimulating and dynamic illustration in around fifteen rooms. The museum’s exhibitions embrace every new digital innovation, which makes Frédéric Chopin a contemporary. At any rate, it is true for Polish sensibility, which mirrors this. So buying a ticket brings you closer to it.

Krakow - A private cooking class

Traditional Polish home cooking typically uses potatoes and cabbage, beetroot, smoked meats and fish, mushrooms, duck, and so on. Its rural roots are plain to see. Pierogi and ravioli are undoubtedly the touchstones. In any case, this dish does honour to both the guests and the cook. To learn the little secrets of the recipe, we’ll first head to the market, accompanied by a top chef and a guide. Then, we’ll go back inside and get to work on the dough and the filling. Bringing the two together neatly is quite a task. Cooking must be precise. You’ll be well guided and take away skills others will envy.
