  • Travelling by train from city to city, you’ll discover a country that is surprisingly lively and creative.
  • Everywhere, your tables are reserved and your accommodations chosen, in perfect harmony with the spirit and charm of each place.
  • Krakow by electric bike, the Solidarnosc adventure in Gdansk, Warsaw in the footsteps of a local: it’s already planned!
  • Carbon absorption, first-class travel, Concierge service, our recommendations: the extraVoyageurs touch
Poland of train stations, Poland of cities. The countryside appears through the window - it will no doubt inspire a future trip. Of the five cities you visit, four are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. This by no means implies that Poznan is any less appealing. Nor is it always a very ancient story: Wroclaw is listed for the Centennial Hall, built in reinforced concrete by Max Berg between 1911 and 1913. Your journey begins in Krakow, a city especially close to the hearts of the Polish people. The former capital displays undiminished intellectual prestige and a slightly southern art of living. Second and third stops: Wroclaw, in Silesia, and Poznan, in Greater Poland - both shaped by the ebb and flow of powerful forces. Perhaps for the worse, but also for the better: a natural cosmopolitanism, a welcoming scepticism. Along with that, there are countless works of art from every era and in every style. The history of the Hanseatic merchants’ route and the defence of civil liberties cross paths in Gdansk, the birthplace of Solidarnosc. Undoubtedly one of the most exciting European cities at the moment. And one of the most surprising. And finally Warsaw. Portrayed by Bernardo Bellotto, 1721-1780, razed, rebuilt, Sovietised, liberalised - the Polish capital seems able to overcome anything. This gives it confidence and a taste for the present. When it comes to taste, Polish cuisine offers surprises that no one will mind. Traditional - charcuterie, smoked fish, roast poultry, soups, dumplings, cabbage, apples and more - or shaped by contemporary influences. And to accompany Polish cuisine, smooth-tasting vodka. Since you are travelling by train.

Your journey

Travelling by train is justified in several ways. First of all, Poland’s size lends itself to this. Next, it can transport you along with a very satisfying kilometre-comfort ratio. In addition, it drops you off in the city centre; you reach the hotel quickly. It’s brief, precise and effective. And it’s relevant from an environmental perspective. Since you’re travelling first class, there’s no stress or rush. For your nights, the accommodations we have selected show that the country has blended the hallmarks of the best urban modernity with its beautiful heritage. Enough to keep your energy and alertness up throughout the itinerary. From discovering Krakow by electric bike to strolling through Warsaw in the footsteps of a friend, and including a visit to the Solidarity Centre in Gdansk, the planned activities (twice accompanied by private guides) take you to the heart of things. To add a delicious touch to your explorations, we have reserved a few carefully chosen restaurants for you. Concert in Krakow, private tours of Wroclaw and Gdansk, Teutonic castle of Malbork? If you’re interested, just let us know. And if, along the way, an unexpected whim or a minor setback arises, you have the contact details of our Concierge service on site to assist you.

Itinerary

100% customisable for you

Private transfer and stay for two nights in a historic building. The restoration and hotel adaptation have perfectly respected the spirit of the place. It is a beautiful hotel that you will be happy to return to at the end of the day. The interior is elegantly classic, with a modern touch that gives it a punch. The colours are intense but not aggressive. This creates a stimulating yet calming atmosphere. It makes a thoroughly pleasant impression. As does the Chesterfield club room. The rooms are very well equipped and comfortable. Nothing is lacking. You feel right at home. The breakfast is particularly well prepared, providing pleasure, energy and clarity of mind. Whisky is the bar's speciality.
Reserved for you - A table in one of our favourite restaurants. Here, Polish cuisine is given a modern twist, while remaining true to its roots, from bigos to burgers, pierogi, kaczka po staropolsku, barszcz, kotlet szabowy, etc.

On your itinerary - Krakow old town on an electric bicycle. The bike is well suited to Krakow. You pedal, but without effort. Just the pleasure of riding freely, accompanied by a private guide. You start in Rynek Glowny, the large square where the majestic Cloth Hall stands, which has developed alongside the city since the 14th century. Above it is the belfry of the old town hall, from the same period. Next comes the royal residence of Wawel. This composite castle is a fitting symbol of the Polish nation. Afterwards, it's on to Kazimierz, the old Jewish quarter (not to be confused with the ghetto created by the Germans during the war, which is a little further south, on the other bank of the Vistula, in Podgorze). The area was neglected during the socialist period but has now been rehabilitated and, while it is an important place of remembrance, it is also a popular arty and festive spot.
Optional - Concert by the Cracow Chamber Orchestra of St Maurice.

Private transfer to the station. Train to Wroclaw. Another transfer and stay for two nights in a prestigious establishment built at the end of the 19th century in an ornate Beaux-Arts style. There is decorum but no reconstruction as the best way to maintain a high standard is to adapt to the times. The interior is in keeping with the spirit of the architecture, so it is entirely contemporary. The large windows opening up throughout are a distinctive feature, and do so with stylistic acuity. The rooms are immaculate. Both restaurants offer professional and inspired cuisine. The large swimming pool is one of the spa's amenities. And the rooftop terrace invites you to enjoy delightful moments in the balmy atmosphere of the late afternoon.
Reserved for you - A table in one of our favourite restaurants. Here you will discover how Polish cuisine has broken free from folklore to create inspired dishes, without compromising on national ingredients or cookbooks.

Wroclaw is known as Breslau to the Germans and it has been a true economic and cultural powerhouse that capitalised on the wealth of Silesia. Its architectural heritage bears witness to this. For example, you have the Gothic-Renaissance town hall, the Jesuit Church of the Holy Name of Jesus with its trompe-l'oeil and theatricality, and the covered market, which was built between 1906 and 1908 and whose concrete framework was innovative at the time. However, the city is not just a tribute to the past. Today, it showcases its dynamism in many areas. The krasnale are bronze dwarfs that you will encounter everywhere, and they are the city's very friendly ambassadors. They can be an amusing guide for an in-depth visit. They originated in a caustic and creative anti-communist movement of the 1980s, which was known as Alternative Orange, or Pomaranczowa Alternatywa.
Optional - Private tour of Wroclaw, the Polish Venice.

Private transfer to the station. Train to Poznan. Another transfer. Overnight stay in the city centre. Your hotel is modern, functional and designed in a sixties style. The rooms are equipped with everything you could possibly need and promise and deliver a comfortable stay. The restaurant serves contemporary Polish cuisine, with just enough international classics to satisfy all appetites.
The city's turbulent history can be glimpsed in the contrasts of its architecture. The powers that be always leave a distinctive mark on the landscape. The muscular neo-Romanesque style of the imperial castle can be explained by the political ambitions of Wilhelm II. In the old market square, the Mannerism of the town hall has something to say about the Polish Renaissance. And the Art Nouveau style of the Jezice district speaks plainly of freedom and artistic voluptuousness.

Private transfer to the station. Train to Gdansk. Another transfer and stay for two nights in the historic centre. The origins of the house date back to the 15th century, as evidenced by its brick façade. However, this does not mean that the interior design is medieval in style. There are still a few touches of brick and wood, but the overall effect is bright and very up-to-date. The rooms are ingenious and comfortable. You feel very much at home here and in tune with the city. No doubt in homage to the spirit of openness that has long characterised this port city, the in-house bar-restaurant has a Mexican influence. There's more to life than vodka, there's also mezcal.
Reserved for you - A table in one of our favourite restaurants, featured in the Red Guide. The dining room is minimalist and comfortable, so it’s right on trend. The cuisine is deconstructed just enough, colourful and flavourful, so it provides a significantly more contemporary image of Polish cuisine.

Hanseatic merchant, Danzig corridor, shipyards, workers' uprising, Gdansk is serious business. Of course. However, although it may not spring to mind immediately, Gdansk is also a very friendly, light-hearted and creative city. It's a pleasure to stroll along the quays, stop off at a small organic café, push open the door of a gallery where the tradition of Polish graphic design is not forgotten, or visit a fashion boutique where you can see that elegancja is not just an empty word. The old façades add to the charm. And the city has buildings of great heritage value.
On your itinerary - However, as Gdansk is indeed a serious matter, you will also be given a ticket to the European Solidarity Centre, which documents the history of Solidarnosc and civil resistance to communism in a remarkable building (FORT Architects).
Optional - Private tour of Gdansk, the pearl of the Baltic.

Private transfer to the station. Train to Warsaw. Another transfer and stay for two nights on the left bank of the Vistula River, opposite the Palace of Culture. Your hotel opened its doors in 1913 and has made it through the century without serious damage, which is an astonishing feat in Warsaw. Today, in order to remain true to itself, it continues to adapt its services to the demands of the times. The rooms are spacious, with superior amenities and a relaxing, classic atmosphere. The restaurant serves traditional Polish cuisine, using carefully selected ingredients and world-class techniques. Under the glass roof of the lobby, the bar fulfils its role as a luxury outpost to everyone's satisfaction. The spa is perfectly adequate without offering a multitude of unnecessary services.
Optional - Your tickets to Malbork Castle.

Already planned - Warsaw like a local. Your guide knows Warsaw inside out. There is nothing standard about this encounter as you can chat about your interests, your desires and your guidebook notes. Are you tempted by the palaces along the Royal Road? Ready to lose yourself in the baroque gardens of Lazienki Park? Intrigued by the Fotoplastikon? Curious about developments on the death metal scene? And what about Polish fashion? Let’s go! You’ll learn so much along the way. If it's tea, vodka or a plate of pierogi you're after, no problem either. Your friend opens up the city for you.
Reserved for you - A table at one of our favourite restaurants. You finish with a restaurant that offers Warsaw residents a taste of Italy and the Mediterranean. Because aspiring to the south is part of being fully Polish.

Private transfer to the airport. Return flight.

À la carte

This suggested itinerary can be customisable down to the smallest detail, including duration, stops and content. An à la carte menu of experiences is also available to create a journey that reflects who you are.

Concert by the Cracow Chamber Orchestra of St Maurice

This orchestra is made up of young graduates from the Academy of Music in Krakow. In other words: talent and passion. This gives the chosen repertoire a momentum that suits it well. Bach, Chopin, Mozart and Vivaldi are dusted off and feel as fresh as new. The concerts take place in the Church of Saints Peter and Paul, the former Jesuit college church. It’s typical of Roman Baroque - monumental and full of movement. The fathers, who knew how to use music in the service of their ministry, would not take offence at this.

Wroclaw, the Polish Venice

Here, the Oder splits into several branches, tributaries flow in and canals divert the current. Wroclaw is threaded with waterways. It’s a city of bridges and quays. It has that unique atmosphere found in river cities—not those merely crossed by an indifferent stream, but those truly nourished by the river. Much of its wealth came by boat. With a private guide, you’ll see things from this different perspective. You can also visit Saint John the Baptist Cathedral, dating from the 14th century. Its statuary attests to its significance: the Dormition of the Virgin by Veit Stoss, 16th century; Saint Elizabeth by Ercole Ferrata, 17th century; and Moses and Aaron by F.M. Brokoff, 18th century.

Gdansk, pearl of the Baltic

A private guide is essential to understand a city whose rich heritage hints at a complex history: broadly speaking, a succession of German and Polish rule. Part of the Hanseatic League from the 14th to the 17th century; the port crane is an impressive symbol of this. The challenges to identiy have taken many forms. The Church of Saint Mary, for example, dating from the 15th century and typical of brick Gothic architecture, was first Catholic, then Lutheran, and then Catholic again. The Jagiellonian kings blended the Renaissance style of their era with the German Gothic style of the town hall. At the end of Long Street, the mannerism of the Golden Gate invites a fresh perspective on the world of that time. As for the shipyards, they keep alive the memory of the workers’ uprisings that shook the communist regime in the 1970s and 1980s.

Your tickets for Malbork Castle

In the 13th century, to establish a base camp for their military missions on the Nogat, the Teutonic Knights built Marienburg. During the following century, once it became the seat of the order, the castle was expanded. In the 15th century, the knights, exhausted, abandoned the fortress to the King of Poland. Today, the whole complex impresses with the scale and vigour of its design. A nerve centre and stronghold of the Teutonic world, Marienburg/Malbork stands as a testament to medieval engineering.
