  • Santa Teresa with a local guide, your tickets for Sugarloaf and Corcovado Mountains, safaris and walks through the Pantanal, all included in your trip

Although the main purpose of this trip is to take you to the heart of the country, where travellers to Brazil rarely venture, we couldn’t think of a better introduction than a few days in Rio. You’ll have just enough time to adjust to the Brazilian pace, acquaint yourself with the Cariocas (Rio residents), and enjoy the beautiful coastline with its endless beaches. The idea is then to explore Brazil’s most primal side, venturing into its pristine nature, where people have not tried to take over. After a stop in Campo Grande, you’ll find yourself in the Pantanal, the largest wetland on the planet. Half of this region is located in Brazil, and water reigns supreme, but it is also composed of savannah and grassland landscapes, where animals can easily be observed. More than 600 species of birds have been recorded here, along with countless reptiles and rare mammals such as the jaguar, marsh deer and black howler monkey. Explore part of this vastness, on foot and on the water, by day and by night, accompanied by a biologist-guide, who will interpret of the remarkable biodiversity around you to provide invaluable insights.

Your Trip

Although you are travelling far, far off the beaten tourist track, this trip is not particularly demanding. It simply requires well-organised logistics. So, we’ve planned direct flights to and from Brazil; convenient domestic flights, with Campo Grande serving as a hub for both arrival and return, and private transfers throughout. Not to mention hand-picked hotels, chosen for their location and sense of hospitality. In Rio, you’ll stay in a peaceful retreat, full of greenery, in the bohemian neighbourhood of Santa Teresa. In Campo Grande, your hotel is unpretentious yet perfectly equipped. We have also added some wonderful experiences to your itinerary: in Rio, a tour of Santa Teresa and Porto Maravilha accompanied by a local, and self-guided visits to Sugarloaf Mountain and Corcovado - the tickets are already arranged. In the Pantanal, every day is a new adventure: a safari, boat trip, a lively, informative conversation about the powerful nature around you. And if you have any concerns or last-minute requests, you will have the contact details of our on-site Concierge who will be happy to assist you throughout your trip.

Your lodge in the Pantanal

Travelling to the Pantanal offers the chance to immerse yourself in one of the most beautiful natural sites in the country, if not the entire continent. To fully connect with this environment, you will stay in a farmhouse that has been sympathetically converted to provide comfortable accommodation. The decor of the suites and villas draws on elements of local culture to help create a welcoming atmosphere. You will be gently awoken in the morning by birdsong. The scheduled activities are all included, alternating between safaris, canoing and walking. Between excursions, why not relax with a book in one of the hammocks hanging around the garden, sip a drink by the pool, or chat with the guides? When night falls, everyone gathers to share their impressions and enjoy the starry sky in utmost peace.

Itinerary

100% customisable for you

On arrival, private transfer and check-in for four nights in the bohemian district of Santa Teresa, high above Rio. From your hammock, you can look out over the city below and the ocean beyond, feeling its vibrant energy like nowhere else in the world. You can also admire the garden planted with mango trees, palm trees and flowers, where little monkeys come and go, perfectly at home. After your outings, take a dip in the pool or retreat to your spacious, light-filled room adorned with a few works of local art. In the evening, dinner awaits at the hotel’s restaurant, a favourite with Cariocas. The spa can wait until tomorrow. And the city too. In fact, Santa Teresa is so enchanting, you almost forget the rest of Rio.

In your itinerary - A day in the Santa Teresa and Porto Maravilha districts, in private. A bohemian neighbourhood set against the hillside, Santa Teresa is reached by tram and those who live here know how fortunate they are. “Santa”, as locals affectionately call it, has many stories to tell. In the 17th century, the nobility - especially in Europe - were quick to settle on the heights. Embassies followed, before relocating to Brasília when the city became the capital in 1960. Left vacant, the area was quickly taken over by artists from all backgrounds. Even today, a creative atmosphere lingers, from the cobbled streets to the shaded squares. A must-stop is the Chácara do Céu Museum to admire works by Matisse, Picasso, Dalí and Miró - fitting for such an artistic quarter. You then wander through Porto Maravilha, along the port and past colourful street art, guided by your interests and itinerary.

Carioca life unfolds right here, right now. Running and beach volleyball on the sand. Markets too, and museums - including the MAC (Museu de Arte Contemporanea). Maracanã Stadium and São Sebastião Cathedral are twin temples where Rio’s residents give full voice to their passion. During the day, you might be tempted by churrasco and cassava fries; pause to sip an Amazonian fruit juice in the cool shade of a Leblon courtyard; then head back out, carried along by the rhythm of one of the world’s most captivating cities.
Already included - Your tickets for Corcovado and Sugarloaf Mountain.

Private transfer to the airport and flight to Campo Grande. On arrival, another private transfer and overnight stay at a centrally located hotel. The property meets contemporary standards and has everything you may need on site - restaurant, swimming pool and gym. Rooms are simply decorated, comfortable and fully equipped.

Private transfer in the morning to the Pantanal region. Check in for four nights at an eco-lodge established on a former fazenda, a traditional Brazilian farm. Simple and well maintained, the lodge is made up of several buildings. The suites located in the main house feature a modern style enhanced by vibrant colours and local decorative touches. At the end of the day, as the sun sets and you begin to get acquainted with the surroundings, a guided walk around the lodge is planned.

The Pantanal, a vast wetland, is the largest of its kind in the world, covering 77,000 sq miles (200,000 sq km). Birds, jaguars, pumas, anteaters, monkeys and snakes of all kinds live here in complete freedom. Exploring the area continues over several days through activities organised by the lodge team.
In your itinerary - Wildlife and flora observation walks, night outings (to spot caimans), canoe trips, and photo safaris. Daily excursions are planned according to the weather, with departures either early in the morning or in the evening. In between, relaxation is the order of the day, whether by the pool or sipping a drink on the terrace.
Optional - Jaguar safari, a pioneering initiative aimed at conserving the species.

As departure is only scheduled for the end of the day, you have plenty of time for one last exploration, a leisurely lunch or a nap by the pool.
Return transfer to your Campo Grande hotel for your final night.

Private transfer to the airport and international return flight. Night on board, arrival the next day.
