100% customisable travel idea
Argentina - Buenos Aires - Iguazú - Brazil - Rio
100% customisable for you
On arrival, private transfer to the lively Palermo district and check in for four nights at a contemporary high-rise hotel. There is also something to cool you down here, thanks to a welcome swimming pool lined with sun loungers. A real treat after a day spent wandering the streets of the Argentine capital. The rooms are spacious, with simple and modern decor. We especially love the immense rooftop, a wonderful perch to enjoy breathtaking views of the city.
The avenues that cut through the city centre make excellent routes for exploration. Some of the most interesting are Avenida 9 de Julio, Avenida Corrientes and Avenida de Mayo. Then there is La Boca, a small, colourful and picturesque barrio, or the elegant Recoleta with its very distinguished cemetery. Evita Peron, Victoria Ocampo and Raul Alfonsin are all buried there. Your neighbourhood of San Telmo is known for its old streets and antique shops. On that note, don’t forget the San Telmo market takes place every Sunday. Porteños flock there to crowd around the stalls, eager to bag the deal of the day. Popular musicians showcase their skills, and their music is much appreciated by tango dancers who dance along. There are many ways to experience the Argentine capital.
Optional extra - Private street art tour.
On your itinerary - Electric bike tour of Buenos Aires, the ideal way to explore the Argentinian capital, taking you far and wide. No need to peddle hard! With a guide, follow the route of your choice and discover the city’s eclectic architecture, lively neighbourhoods and beautiful parks where Porteños enjoy relaxing. Pass by some of the city’s famous sites such as Recoleta Cemetery, La Bombonera stadium, La Boca and its "Caminito", Puerto Madero, and the iconic Plaza de Mayo.
Booked for the evening - Dinner at one of the city’s best parrillas, in a typical old brick house in Palermo Viejo. Your table is already reserved. The restaurant serves fine cuts of charcoal-grilled meat in a traditional setting. The walls are lined with empty bottles signed by customers, chandeliers and wagon wheels, and the waiters are dressed in black. It’s a chance for parents to sample the renowned Argentine wines, with hundreds to choose from on the wine list.
Optional extra - An evening of Argentine tango and traditional music.
Booked for the evening - Reservation at a rooftop restaurant in the city centre. On the menu for the whole family: river views, a sparkling skyline and Argentinian food, washed down with expertly mixed cocktails for the parents.
Optional extras - Buenos Aires tour with a local; tickets for a football match in Maradona’s homeland; guided tour of Palacio Barolo.
Private transfer to the airport, then flight to Puerto Iguazú. Another transfer and check-in for three nights at an elegant hotel surrounded by the lush vegetation of the Iryapú jungle. The rooms are modern and comfortable. The spa is there to help your body and mind relax. You are also in the ideal location to reach the famous Iguazú Falls in no time at all. These waterfalls, straddling the border between Argentina and Brazil, are without doubt some of the most spectacular in the world. Thousands of tonnes of water pour down every second with a thunderous roar, then rise delicately as clouds of mist. The most famous waterfall is called the Garganta del Diablo, or Devil’s Throat, which, at 295 feet (90 metres) high, is the tallest in the group. There’s no doubt about it, Iguazú, or "Great Waters" in Guarani, deserves its place as one of the world’s natural wonders.
On your itinerary - Iguazú Falls, Argentinian side. Enjoy a short trip in an off-road truck through the national park where you can usually spot some of the forest’s inhabitants. See if you can spy red coatis and toucans, anteaters or capuchin monkeys, and maybe even tapirs. The truck then heads down to the river where you board a zodiac boat. Bouncing over the rapids, the boat takes passengers as close as possible to the waterfall. Here you can watch the great dusky swifts nesting behind the curtains of water, darting in and out through the gaps. It’s an unforgettable experience.
On your itinerary - Iguaçu Falls, Brazilian side. You already have your tickets, so you are free to explore the national park with its trails and walkways that sometimes lead you almost underneath the waterfalls. You might just end up having a tropical shower!
Optional extra - Helicopter flight over the falls.
Private transfer to Foz do Iguaçu airport and flight to Rio. Another transfer and stay for four nights at a hotel overlooking the legendary Copacabana Beach. The hotel is truly classic in style, both elegant and understated. The comfortable rooms feature natural tones. Some have superb views of the ocean. These sea views are even better from the rooftop terrace, where a beautiful pool takes pride of place. Nearby, the neighbourhoods of Ipanema and Leblon are within easy reach.
The Carioca lifestyle is right here, right now. Locals run and play beach volleyball on the sand. There are markets too and museums such as MAC, the Museum of Contemporary Art. Maracanã Stadium and the Metropolitan Cathedral of Saint Sebastian are two different types of cathedral where Rio’s residents express their unwavering devotion. During the day, it’s hard to resist the churrasco and the cassava fries, both utterly delicious! Sip an Amazonian fruit juice in the cool shade of a Leblon backyard, wander here and there, enjoying life to the rhythm of one of the world’s most captivating cities.
On your schedule - Private tour of Santa Teresa. This bohemian neighbourhood sits perched on a hill. You get there by tram, which doesn’t hang around. The people who live there are very fortunate. "Santa" (as locals call it) is bursting with history. In the 17th century, the nobility, especially from Europe, were quick to settle in the hills. The embassies were built there before moving with their occupants to Brasilia, when the city became the capital in 1960. Once the houses were empty, the neighbourhood was quickly taken over by all kinds of artists. Even today, that creative spirit fills the air, from the narrow cobbled streets to the shaded squares. Be sure to visit Chacara do Ceu Museum to admire works by Matisse, Picasso, Dali and Miro.
Also booked - Evening at a samba school. Samba emerged from Brazil and is known the world over. It takes centre stage every year during the famous Rio carnival. This evening is a unique opportunity to take part in a genuine rehearsal at one of the city’s best-known samba schools. It’s a time for the dancers and aficionados to share some of their knowledge and lots of their passion.
Must-see - Sugarloaf Mountain. At the mouth of Guanabara Bay, the iconic Sugarloaf Mountain rises 1,299 feet (396 metres) from the shoreline to loom over the surrounding landscape. You reach the summit of this monolith by air, on one of the iconic cable cars. The first car transports visitors up to Morro da Urca, 721 feet (220 metres) above sea level, where you can enjoy sweeping views of the winding coastline. A second car travels the rest of the way. From the summit of the granite giant, the view unfolds like a painting. Be dazzled by the blue of the bay, the golden sand and the green of the trees.
Optional extra - Your tickets for Sugarloaf Mountain: Rio by night, with a private guide.
Not to be missed - Corcovado and Christ the Redeemer. At the top of Mount Corcovado, rises the immense statue of Christ (38 metres (124 feet) high, including the pedestal) that has come to symbolise the city and Brazil as a whole. It took about ten years to build and was constructed by sculptors, architects and engineers from all over the world. Inaugurated in 1931 after a week of celebrations, the statue is made of reinforced concrete clad in a mosaic of soapstone tiles. This ensures the colours will never fade and it will withstand the harshest weather and temperature changes. In other words it's an immortal figure and what could be more fitting for one of the seven wonders of the modern world?
Booked for the evening - Dinner at one of the city’s best restaurants. Your table is already reserved.
Optional extra - Your tickets for Corcovado.
Private transfer to the airport and direct international flight home. Night on board, arrival the following day.
