  • Carbon absorption, electric rental car, hotels with a view, our bespoke recommendations: browse Voyageurs
We dreamed of it, and now it’s possible: reaching Corsica in a gentler, more sustainable way. Forget planes and ferries, bonghjornu sailboat! A wonderful excuse for a sun-drenched trip to the south of France. This sailing trip lasts for about 20 hours and serves as an organic link between the beauty of the French Riviera and the azure colours of Corsica. Everything begins in the Luberon, where, among mountains, cedar forests, vineyards, maquis, and olive groves, charming hilltop villages offer a warm welcome. Villages with brightly coloured buildings, sun-kissed stones, shaded little squares and fragrant flowers, where life, art, and simple living are celebrated. A pair of sandals hastily slipped on to wander the narrow streets, a shutter creaking shut at siesta time, a cotton curtain dancing in place of a door and the joyful cacophony of meals on the terrace. And then there’s that languid calm which, all around, allows nature to live as it wishes. From Lourmarin, ambassador of Provençal charm, you head to Saint-Raphaël. This is where the sailboat is moored that will take you to Cap Corse in less than 24 hours. You’ll go to Calvi, to be precise, where an electric car gives you the freedom you need to explore the north of the island. Settle into the delightful coastal village of Erbalunga, nestled at the end of a bay boasting a shade of blue that only Corsica knows how to produce. In the XXS port, the water laps around the small boats. You spend your time between land and sea, enjoying the freshness of narrow streets and small coves, and visiting baroque churches and mysterious caves. Time passes differently here. On the way back to Calvi, you settle by a bright harbour framed by mountains. The Genoese citadel extends into the waves between two bays. The preserved Revellata peninsula conceals intimate and wild beaches nestled in the hollow of rugged cliffs. In the sky, cormorants, ospreys and gulls circle - winged representatives of a sublime marine and mineral world that you can continue to admire from the sailboat as you move away from the Corsican coast, which gradually blends into the horizon.

Your trip

By skipping air travel, you also avoid all the airport logistics - waiting, scanners and all the people. You can reach Lourmarin and Saint-Raphaël however you wish - we can also take care of booking a train ticket, a car or a parking space for your car, if necessary. The other journeys are made using an electric rental car, private transfers and, of course, a sailboat on the Mediterranean Sea. At each stop, your comfortable accommodation reflects the local atmosphere, allowing you to easily explore the surroundings and enjoy exclusive views. As for your itinerary, it is filled with sunshine and the sea, and with wishes that often arise unexpectedly - a massage, a nap or a moment of contemplation from a cafe terrace. However, we did include three lovely activities: a visit to an organic olive grove near Lourmarin; a day spent around Erbalunga, on land and at sea; and a spontaneous evening with a local in Calvi. And for everything we cannot anticipate, such as minor setbacks and spontaneous, unavoidable wishes, you can rely on our Concierge, who is available throughout your trip.

The sailboat

The crossing between Saint-Raphaël and Calvi is made aboard a Bavaria 50, a 15-metre (49 feet) sailboat that is operated by a professional skipper, who is assisted by a crew member. The boat can accommodate an additional eight passengers thanks to four double cabins, each equipped with small storage spaces and a porthole. The common areas are modern and well designed, with a living/dining area and a kitchen. On the deck, other areas allow you to enjoy the crossing with the wind in your face, either in the shade or in the sun. You might spot dolphins, pilot whales and even whales as you cross the Pelagos Sanctuary. Meals (vegetarian) are included and prepared with ingredients that are as organic and local as possible. If conditions allow, you can learn the basics of sailing with the skipper or even take part in the manoeuvres.

Itinerary

100% customisable for you

Between the Durance and the Luberon, three bell towers stand out on the horizon: those of Lourmarin, a small town with Provençal charm, listed among the “most beautiful villages of France”. As you wander through the narrow streets, charming shops and art galleries appear. There’s no denying that there is a certain something in the city that fuels inspiration. That of Camus and Bosco, in days gone by. That of the artists in residence at the Renaissance-style château, which stands on the edge of the village and is aptly nicknamed the “La Petite Villa Médicis de Provence”
.Enjoy a two-night stay in the heart of the village, in a beautiful stone hotel that embodies the gentle way of life in the Luberon, featuring whitewashed walls, bohemian decor, coconut fibre floors, shade sails and climbing plants. The interiors are fresh, elegant and comfortable, with a peaceful, bright atmosphere. The perfect setting to enjoy the pleasures of the beautiful little pool, or to immerse yourself - this time figuratively - in a novel. At the restaurant, the menu, which highlights local flavours, has the good sense to evolve with the seasons.

Lourmarin is located in the heart of Luberon Regional Natural Park, an area of 185,000 hectares (over 457,000 acres) that includes the famous Luberon mountain range stretching between the Alps and the Mediterranean, as well as the Vaucluse mountains, forests, limestone quarries, castles, beautiful villages and olive trees.
Scheduled - The olive grove you will visit with a guide is located a few kilometres or miles from Lourmarin. A welcoming place where you can step into the world of organic olive oil, learn about cultivation and extraction methods, and taste products from the estate.

Private transfer to Saint-Raphaël, where you board a sailing boat crewed by a professional skipper. You have a private cabin with everything you need: a bed and a porthole overlooking the sea. The common areas are modern and well designed, with a lounge and dining area, as well as a kitchen. On the deck, you sit comfortably, in the shade or in the sun, and enjoy the crossing with the wind in your face. The meals are vegetarian and prepared with organic ingredients. As for the atmosphere on board, it is generally very lively and social. Night on board, arrival the next day.

On arrival, take a private transfer to the rental electric car pick-up point, then drive to Erbalunga where you will stay for two nights. Your accommodation venue is a 19th-century manor house whose architecture echoes the palazzu of the period. In the rooms, the furniture, simplicity, and decor evoke old Mediterranean homes. Surrounding this charming hotel is a park filled with palm trees and exotic plants - a scenic and wonderfully relaxing setting.

A small coastal village nestled in the hollow of a cove with crystal-clear waters, Erbalunga stands out with its light-coloured facades against the steep slopes of Cap Corse. Bathed in the salty sea air, the narrow alleyways - well sheltered from the wind - are beautifully adorned with flowers. All around, lies scrubland and the beach. Simply sublime.
Scheduled - a private day spent between land and sea
. The day begins with a short stroll around Erbalunga and a visit to the Church of Saint Erasmus, with its beautiful baroque facade. Then, a short walk takes you to the mysterious Marmuraghja Cave, a natural cavity that time has embellished with sharp stalactites. For lunch, your guide recommends a prime spot with an unbeatable view of the stunning Cap Corse marine park. The afternoon passes between Erbalunga and Lavasina, kayaking along the rugged coastline dotted with small wild coves where you can stop for a swim as often as you like.

Return journey to Calvi and check in for two nights at a hotel that well knows the view often surpasses all else. It had the clever idea to perch on the heights of the city, giving its room terraces a view of either the sea or the citadel. On the upper floors, a rooftop with a bar and a small pool opens onto the Bay of Calvi and the cirque of the Monte Grossu mountains. The interior spaces, bright and cool, also have a slightly retro look. The rooms are understated and contemporary, and the spa is a place where relaxation is taken even more seriously.

Proudly perched on a vast, sunlit bay framed by mountains, Calvi is one of the most beautiful marine sites in Corsica. Around its Genoese citadel, it reveals the legacy of a rich history - prehistoric sites, Baroque churches
On your itinerary - An evening in Calvi, following in the footsteps of a local, as a private visit
. We take advantage of the mild evening to stroll through the city, planning our itinerary for the walk according to our wishes and preferences. Your guide, who knows the area like the back of their hand, reveals its secrets and leafs through a few pages of local history with you.

Return the car and board for the crossing back to Saint-Raphaël. Night aboard the sailboat, arrival the next day.
