Itinerary highlights

  • Island-hopping to appreciate the diversity of the Caribbean and its relaxed, elegant way of life
  • Exploring the interior, rich in colonial history, and laying out your towel on some of the Caribbean’s finest beaches
  • Local insight and a rum distillery in Barbados; a full day with a guide in Antigua - already included in your plans
  • Airport lounge, arrival assistance, rental cars, Concierge service, Wi-Fi: the extra Voyageurs touch
Choosing to spend time on two different islands isn't because one won't suffice, but because they complement each other perfectly. It also allows you to broaden your knowledge of the English-speaking Caribbean, not to mention enriching your vocabulary to describe the endless nuances of blue. Touching down in Barbados - affectionately known as “Bim” by its residents - you arrive on the only Caribbean island of coral origin, rather than volcanic. It's also the birthplace of Rihanna and, of course, rum. It was here, in 1703, that the very first distillery was founded, aided by the surrounding sugar cane plantations. Barbados is a richly blended island, with a Bajan culture shaped by Creole, African and European influences - the British having left behind a distinct colonial aesthetic. On the Parliament building in Bridgetown, for example, a small carillon bears a striking resemblance to Westminster’s. Your base is in the parish of St Peter, on the island’s north-west coast - an ideal location for enjoying the beaches and exploring further inland, where softly rolling hills draped in tropical vegetation are known locally as the Highlands, none rising above 350 metres. Here, transitions feel effortless: from blue to white, white to green, bare feet to sandals. A stroll will take you past chattel houses, the island's traditional wooden homes, as well as through the local fish market. You can feast on the catch of the day, sip a glass of rum to the sound of calypso, then turn in for the night, windows opening onto the impossibly blue waters of the Caribbean Sea. Then, a short flight later, you'll head further north to another Antillean beauty. Antigua…a jewel of barely 300 square kilometres (116 square miles), edged with luminous sands and waters that redefine the very notion of blue. At once laid-back and lively, the island is said to boast as many beaches as days in the year. Some invite you to relax, while others encourage more active pursuits, like joining a regatta, swimming, or diving with nurse sharks, stingrays and turtles. From English Harbour, everything is within reach, including the island’s history, revealed through evocative colonial remains and former military fortifications. Once again, the British legacy is palpable - in architecture and lifestyle alike - from afternoon tea to cricket matches played against a backdrop of pastel houses, the rhythmic sounds of steel bands and animated conversations beneath fruit trees.
Your trip

A warm welcome on arrival, private transfers and rental cars: the logistics are seamless, leaving you free to focus on just one thing: doing exactly as the mood dictates. Idling, wandering, meeting people, and so, so much more. To get you started, we've arranged a handful of relaxing visits and walks, always in good company. First, you'll be met by a Barbadian, who will happily tell you all about her island, its culture and its secrets - including a few favourite sunset spots. You will also uncover the mysteries of rum at a waterfront distillery, where tastings come with uninterrupted views of the blue beyond. In Antigua, a knowledgeable guide introduces you to local history through some of the island's iconic sites, including forts, ramparts and plantations. The rest of the time, thanks to your rental vehicle, you are free to go wherever inspiration leads - venturing into the forest until you hear the gentle murmur of a waterfall, diving among coral reefs, attending a polo match, strolling through magnificent tropical gardens, or simply doing nothing at all, whether in the comfort of your room or on the warm sand of one of the many postcard-perfect beaches nearby. And for any questions, sudden ideas or minor setbacks, you can rely on our on-site Concierges, available at all times.

Itinerary

100% customisable for you

At Bridgetown airport, you are met by our local representative, who accompanies you to your private transfer to St Peter. There, you settle in for four nights at a hotel designed like a small village, on the edge of a fine sandy beach lapped by turquoise waters. Inside the suites, furniture in wicker, rattan and white-painted wood is paired with striped fabrics and soft floral pastels. From the bedroom, a series of doors opens onto a living area with red cement tiles, leading to a terrace or balcony. The restaurant occupies a charming old building painted a candy-pink, its shutters letting in the sea breeze. Dinner is by candlelight, to the murmur of the waves and the soft clink of cutlery.

In your itinerary - In the north-west of Barbados, the parish of St Peter offers a wonderful snapshot of the island, with idyllic beaches, a rum distillery, a sugar cane plantation, colonial-era buildings and protected natural areas. To get all the insider guidance, we've arranged for you to have a drink with a local who knows the island inside out. It's a rare glimpse into everyday life in Barbados, where you’ll gather plenty of information for the days ahead.
Not to be missed - Weekend festivities at the Oistins Fish Fry. South of Bridgetown, the fishing village of Oistins comes alive each day with the arrival of boats delivering their catch. Locals bargain with gusto over the day’s haul, before it finds its way onto plates, especially on Friday nights for the “Oistins Fish Fry”. Grilled or fried, chefs at a host of stalls compete to showcase freshly caught fish and seafood. It is the perfect opportunity to try flying fish, Barbados’s famous speciality. Served with cou-cou, a cornmeal-and-okra side, it's the island’s signature dish. To top it all off, music and performances add a festive atmosphere to this huge open-air barbecue, while a few stalls branch out to offer handmade crafts.

Rental car pick-up.
In your itinerary - Visit to a rum distillery. Everything tastes better under the Caribbean sun! Here, the rum tasting comes after an informative tour explaining not only how it is made, but also what daily life looks like inside a working distillery, all set against a backdrop of turquoise waters.
The rest of the day is yours to organise as you wish. With your car, you can easily reach Speightstown, an appealing small town home to the Arlington House Museum - which tells the island’s story through interactive exhibits - or St Nicholas Abbey, a sugar plantation with its own rum distillery. You can also explore Farley Hill National Park and the Barbados Wildlife Reserve, before laying down your towel on one of the area's stunning beaches.

Not to be missed - The gardens of Barbados. While the island is renowned for its beaches, it also offers abundant natural beauty - and can count on its residents to showcase and protect it. In the district of St Joseph, a passionate horticulturist has transformed a former sugar-cane plantation into a luxuriant garden. More than 80 species are recorded here, from flowers and plants to birds. Purple lilies, heliconias and orchids create a strikingly colourful setting, while hummingbirds flit from bloom to bloom. Here and there, armchairs have been placed among the foliage, fountains and lily-covered pools. The artist behind this enchanted world welcomes visitors in person, to a backdrop of classical music. Another special experience awaits at Coco Hill Forest, where a hotelier has set up an initiative to safeguard local flora. Map in hand, you wander at your own pace among hundreds of trees, including Jamaican ackee, cocoa plants and pineapple.
Optional - Gourmet lunch at a historic Barbadian plantation.

Drive to Bridgetown airport, return the vehicle and fly to Antigua. Check in for three nights on Freeman’s Bay, at a small hotel with postcard-perfect décor: a lush garden, a beach and a bay with crystal-clear water where a few boats bob lazily... Inside, rooms offer an easy, understated elegance, with light tones and a Caribbean-chic touch. Each room opens onto a balcony or terrace, for a life lived as much outdoors as in. Two restaurants (one with Italian flavours) and two bars (including a beach bar) keep things varied; while the swimming pool, landscaped beach, spa and tennis courts take care of the seaside activities.

In your itinerary - A private day around Antigua. Surrounded by both the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, Antigua is nicknamed “the island of 365 beaches” - from sheltered sandy coves and wave-swept playgrounds to departure points for underwater excursions. Behind this idyllic landscape lies a rich and complex history, shaped by a long period of British occupation. You explore (almost) all of it with a private guide. Along the way are Fort Berkeley, the oldest building (1704) in English Harbour and one of many military fortifications built by the colonial government; Nelson’s Dockyard, a former shipyard and Royal Navy headquarters whose buildings have been beautifully restored; and the viewpoint at Shirley Heights, which offers sweeping views over the island and is now home to a restaurant famous for its Sunday parties.

See and do - Find your dream beach among a rich selection. The coastline reveals beaches that range from pink to white, sometimes framed by hills and deep green forests. The water is exceptionally clear and generally shallow. Where it is deeper, coral reefs help protect it from currents, making swimming calm and easy. Encounters can happen by chance, with dolphins, rays and hundreds of brightly coloured fish. The hardest part is choosing where to lay down your towel...
You'll also have plenty of time to explore Antigua’s interior, particularly its tropical rainforest, which you can discover along pretty trails and a few suspension bridges (the more adventurous visitors can even zip-line through the treetops!). Beneath the canopy, prepare to enter a whole different world: rustling sounds, vegetal scents, roaring waterfalls and shimmering lakes, with curious but harmless wildlife watching discreetly from the shadows.

Private transfer to the airport and international return flight. Night on board, arrival the next day.

À la carte

Sunday lunch at the heart of a former plantation in Barbados

You are welcomed to a plantation surrounded by mahogany trees, fruit trees and exquisite gardens. Inside, antique parquet floors, period furnishings, abundant plants and flowers, sparkling chandeliers, paintings and objets d’art recreate the charm of a bygone colonial era. Every Sunday, lunch here is a sought-after event, set amid enchanting gardens where tables are laid with tropical elegance. The four-course menu showcases the best of Caribbean flavours, including fish, coconut milk and green banana curry, to be enjoyed with a delicious cocktail beneath the bougainvillea.
