Lots of people don’t know very much about Barbados. And that’s no bad thing! Your older daughter just knows that her favourite singer is the country's national hero; her little brother thinks of pirates as soon as anyone mentions the Caribbean. You, on the other hand, are just dreaming of one thing: winter sun and a lovely villa where the whole family will be welcome. What if we told you that, on top of that, you can escape the crowds and discover a unique culture where everyone speaks English? A former British colony, Barbados balances its colonial past and Bajan culture, Anglican parishes and Creole houses, orchid gardens and deserted beaches. And then there are the sugarcane fields from which its iconic rum is made, the friendly smiles on every face, the music, the games of dominoes, and long evenings with your feet in the sand. This island certainly serves up a surprisingly addictive cocktail.

Your Trip

Arrive on the west coast and settle into a comfortable, two-bedroom villa with fully-equipped kitchen (your groceries can even be delivered to your door), spacious lounge for relaxing, and a terrace where you can enjoy the gentle evening air together. Swimming pools and the beach are just a flip-flop away, so you’ll be spoilt for choice. We’ll provide a rental car so you can explore every corner of the island at your own pace, rank the most beautiful beaches and try out a whole range of fun family activities: body boarding or paddleboarding, surfing or kite surfing, kayaking or Hobie Cat sailing. The sea is a wonderful playground everywhere you go. In fact, we have already added a catamaran excursion to your schedule, with a couple of stops for snorkelling, so you might be lucky enough to spot turtles. If you would also like to visit one of the famous rum distilleries or join a private guide for a tour of historical Barbados, just let us know. And for anything else - last-minute requests, issues, table reservations, or if the unexpected happens - you’ll have the contact details of our on-site Concierge. In collaboration with your travel expert, they can also extend your stay by a few nights, either in Barbados or on a neighbouring island. You ask, we accommodate!!

They’ll simply adore…

Sampling ultra-fresh fish, plantains or traditional cou-cou - a delicious blend of okra and cornmeal; in season (December to February), watching for whales and their calves from St Lucy Cliffs, then exploring the Animal Flower Cave; swimming in natural pools; visiting green monkeys, iguanas, deer, peacocks and other tropical birds at Barbados Wildlife Reserve; swaying to the rhythms of calypso and soca; wandering between the stalactites and stalagmites in Harrison’s Cave and soaking up the excitement of a cricket match at Kensington Oval.

À la carte

This suggested itinerary can be customisable down to the smallest detail, including duration, stops and content. An à la carte menu of experiences is also available to create a journey that reflects who you are.

Private tour of historical Barbados

Behind the postcard-perfect images, there is a whole history book. Set off with a private guide for a day exploring the island from a historical perspective, either around Saint Nicholas Abbey or in Speightstown, renowned for its colonial architecture. After admiring the amazing views from Cherry Tree Hill, head for Bathsheba on the rugged Atlantic coast, where you will find the island’s most photogenic beach.

Victorian steam train and rum tasting

Your guide will collect your from your villa for a visit to one of the island’s top rum distilleries. Wind through the estate on a charming heritage railway, passing old plantations all the way to the Cherry Tree Hill viewpoint. Parents can then sample the precious nectar with a rum tasting.

Add a few extra days... Saint Vincent and the Grenadines

From Barbados, it’s a short hop to the Grenadines. So why not take the opportunity to extend your stay for a few nights on these islands with evocative names such as Mustique and Mayreau, or Bequia with its whaling heritage. Water is the underlying theme here: choose to relax on the sandy beaches, sail along the coast by yacht, or explore the seabed, caves and shipwrecks, or meet the locals who look as if they are wearing makeup. On the island of Saint Vincent, Soufrière Volcano towers over the archipelago at a height of 1,235 metres (4,052 feet).
