Itinerary highlights

  • Experiencing an active and stylish Lapland, in an intimate cocoon with modern lines and an exclusive setting
  • Your panoramic room for total immersion in the snowy landscape, with front-row seats for the Northern Lights
  • Snowmobiling, snowshoeing, along with fat biking and cross-country skiing: so many different experiences
  • Après-ski massages, Finnish sauna rituals, the crackling fireplace: perfecting the art of switching off
  • Guaranteed availability from 20 December to 4 January: go for it!
Above the Arctic Circle, winter shapes a soft mantle of snow and reveals the most sumptuous face of Lapland. The idea behind this getaway: to take a deep breath of the purest air in Europe and lose all sense of time, to enjoy a rare natural environment of forests and frozen lakes, to rediscover silence - pure and profound - to get away from it all. Letting go is easier with flexible travel arrangements and retreats chosen for their understated, cosy, wooden luxury, designed and reserved exclusively for adults. Originally, this group of traditional Lappish log cabins, lost in an Arctic landscape bordered by a national park populated with lakes and forests, was the retreat of a Finnish president. After a major renovation, its flawless design now favours modern lines and expansive windows. Similarly, in the handful of rooms, the focus is on understated luxury, with special attention given to guests’ privacy and tranquillity. Yours, called "skyview" for a reason, features immense windows (3.2 metres (10.5 feet) high) that open onto nature and is crowned with a glass roof, perfect for stargazing and observing the Northern Lights. The public spaces, whether around the fireplace or the breakfast dining table, are designed for chatting with other guests. The food is inspired by ingredients and produce from local hunters and fishermen. In short: an insight into the Lappish way life, combining great comfort, relaxation and local gastronomy.

Experience the Far North

Nearby, Urho Kekkonen National Park - the second largest protected park in Finland - is home to an impressive range of landscapes: primary forests, heaths and gorges, along with marshes and mountains covered in a thick blanket of snow. A vast expanse of untouched landscapes to explore at your own pace, on snowshoes or during some leisurely cross-country skiing - two of the most popular Nordic activities in Lapland. Snow sports enthusiasts can cover longer distances by snowmobile, enjoying incomparable thrills. Increasingly popular, fat biking is also perfectly suited to the wild expanses of Lapland, especially as there are so many trails. A different mount and new sensations as the sure, steady steps of Finnish horses sink into the silence of the snow. When it turns to ice and covers the white lakes with a thick layer of frost, patient fishers practice the ancestral Native American techniques of ice fishing. Another must: learning to handle a sled, to fully appreciate the majestic silence of the snowy plains, with only the sound of the sled gliding along and the breath of the Huskies. Or the reindeer, the emblematic animals of the Far North. Indeed reindeer herding is still a major source of income in Lapland. Back at the lodge, nothing is more relaxing than a visit to the sauna followed by a good massage (classic, energising with hot stones, or soothing with aromatic herbs) to ease your warmed muscles after a day spent in the deep cold of the Arctic winter. The perfect way to prepare, as night falls, to watch the Northern Lights that sometimes drape the sky in a glowing green.

On your itinerary

As part of your stay, Nordic activities are scheduled every day: a snowmobile safari, a massagesession, a snowshoeing excursion, a fat bike outing, and finally a cross-country skiing excursion. A schedule that can, of course, be tailored to your wishes, by choosing from the wide range of experiences on offered at the lodge. Would you like to experience Lapland during the holiday season? Availability is guaranteed during the holiday period - what a great opportunity! And if you would like to extend your trip, whether in Helsinki (since you have a stop-off there) or elsewhere in Lapland, just let us know.

À la carte

This suggested itinerary can be customisable down to the smallest detail, including duration, stops and content. An à la carte menu of experiences is also available to create a journey that reflects who you are.

Saariselkä, one of the largest ski resorts in Finland

Ski and snowboard enthusiasts can hone their skills on the slopes of the Saariselkä ski resort, the largest in the country. 23 slopes, 6 lifts, maximum altitude of 437 m (1,434 feet). While these numbers may not break Alpine records, they are rare in Lapland and provide perfect skiing conditions for beginners. And the snow here is truly unique, particularly fine and endless. The resort is also home to  the largest toboggan run in Finland.
Optional extra

>With a few more days, Helsinki

Since you’re stopping there anyway, why not spend a few days there? Behind its seemingly reserved appearance, wrapped in the classicism of its Art Nouveau facades and the sometimes austere Soviet influence, Helsinki is a cultural and dynamic European capital, with plenty of nightlife, open to the winds of change. To see what it has to offer wander through the Design District. These 25 streets and nearly 200 design, antique and fashion shops, as well as museums, art galleries, showrooms, restaurants are a showcase of Finnish creativity. Be sure to visit Lasipalatsi and its museum hub too.
