This is the year you’re going to take your family to the land of Santa Claus to enjoy the magic of Lapland’s great white wilderness. Designed to experience the best of Finland in winter and to appeal people of all ages, this trip combines fresh Scandinavian air with the exhilaration of the great outdoors, and an itinerary to suit everyone. At this time of year, the days are short but otherwordly, with their soft light and shimmering skies. Nights are lively and warm and arrive quickly, sometimes draped in the glowing green of the Northern Lights. So, bundle up and head out to experience all the adventures the Far North has to offer: dog sledding, cross-country skiing and ice fishing for beginners and snowshoeing of course. But also a revitalising saunas, sipping coffee from a kuksa in the forest, or enjoying hot berry glögi sheltered inside a kota, the traditional Lappish teepee. When evening falls, snuggle up together in large blankets around the fire to share stories about your wonderful day and dream of the day to come. Fresh air, vast horizons and a cosy chalet: discover Lapland with the family. A cosy winter interlude to end the year or welcome the new year together, in the most beautiful way.

Live like a trapper

To truly discover Finnish Lapland, this getaway includes five wonderful Nordic activities - unique experiences to enjoy with the whole family. First, there is the dog sled ride, a timeless experience to the sound of joyful barking, the crunch of the sled and the majestic silence of the snowy plains. Another must-do: snowshoeing through forests and over frozen lakes. After a few hesitant steps, you soon find your rhythm and are treated to breathtaking views. Two completely local experiences are also on your agenda: cross-country skiing and ice fishing. Brilliant! And finally, the last highlight: a Finnish sauna. After a few minutes at 80°C, it’s time for the ultimate Finnish experience: swimming in the frozen lake. In the majestic calm, you dip in one toe, then two, before fully immersing yourself in the hole carved into the ice. Exhilarating! For all these activities, winter weather gear, transfers and snacks are provided. If you would also like to try snowmobiling (for children aged 10 and over), visit the elf village, or experience a night in a glass igloo, just let us know. And if there’s a slight hitch or any last-minute requests, you have the contact details of our on site concierge, who will take care of everything throughout your journey.

Your Lapland cocoon: Yllas Humina

Renovated and extended several times, the hotel, which dates back to 1945, has retained its original charm, its family management and a delightfully hushed atmosphere. The main building houses the reception area, the restaurant and the adjoining bar. The comfortable and beautifully decorated rooms are scattered among a handful of wooden chalets. In the centre stands the sauna, for a relaxing break at the end of the day. You move from one building to another along paths laid out directly on the snow, guided by paper stars and candles twinkling in the windows. With your children, you can either share a room or stay in apartments located 200 metres (220 yards) from the restaurant. These are simply furnished in the traditional Lapland style, with a semi-private sauna, a fireplace like a traditional stove, and two bedrooms (one on a mezzanine). The restaurant is renowned for the quality and diversity of its cuisine; special mention goes to the comforting soups and indulgent desserts, not forgetting the traditional Lappish meal served once a week. In short, a charming hotel, perfect for snuggling under the covers and drifting off beneath the snowflakes or the aurora borealis!

À la carte

This suggested itinerary can be customisable down to the smallest detail, including duration, stops and content. An à la carte menu of experiences is also available to create a journey that reflects who you are.

Snowmobile safari (from 10 years old)

Agile and robust, snowmobiles are ideal for gliding over frozen lakes or travelling along snow-covered forest trails. They are relatively easy to handle and quickly become a pleasure to drive with the enjoyable sensation of gliding. Once you've got going, you glide over the dips and bumps. And the distance you can travel means you discover that, despite its white uniformity, the region is more varied with more contrasts than expected.

Sleeping in a glass igloo

Yes, you’ll have the starry sky all to yourself and, with a bit of luck, the dance of the Northern Lights. No, you won’t be freezing! Spending the night in a glass igloo is one of those things to experience at least once in your life. At one with the elements, you enjoy cosy comfort and an exceptional view - a great story to share with friends when you get back.

Meet the elves

They make the toys, care for and feed the reindeer, sort the mail, cook, clean and look after Santa Claus Village. You will spend time with the elves in private - time for some storytelling, making decorations or baking gingerbread together.
