On the Nile, nothing is rushed. Like the feluccas that follow the slow rhythm of the river, we invite you to take a journey at your own pace: to relax, socialise, discover, linger… Entry and exit points at Luxor and Aswan: in both cities, you stay at timeless accommodation venues that form an integral part of the legend of the Nile. And in between, you embark on a majestic voyage imbued with serenity and history, discovering the great myths of Ancient Egypt: the magic of the monumental Karnak complex, sunrise over the Valley of the Kings, passing through the Esna Lock, El Ramady Island, Gebel Silsileh, and the temples of Edfu, Kom Ombo and Philae. A journey beyond time, for an unforgettable introduction to Egypt.

Aboard the Flâneuse du Nil

An elegant dahabieh, the Flâneuse is flanked at the bow and the stern by two lateen sails. Just seven cabins (including a large suite at the rear with a private terrace) in soft pastel tones enhanced with vintage finds, an intimate lounge for sharing a hibiscus infusion, and a sundeck lulled by the call of the muezzins - the ideal floating cocoon. This type of boat, combining comfort and intimacy, was already used by the pharaohs nearly 5,000 years ago. Your floating home glides over the water at a gentle pace, carried by the languorous winds, allowing you to fully enjoy the view of the banks, to bask without interruption on the deck, and to reach places where larger boats cannot go. Moreover, this requires some arrangements, notably the assistance of a tugboat when anchoring and in case of contrary winds.
The Flâneuse has just begun its energy transition by swapping its old generator for around 50 solar panels, which now provide almost all the energy needed for the boat’s smooth operation (air conditioning, hot water, lighting). In addition to being completely silent when the sails are unfurled, sailing is now greener.
You experience a cruise far from the crowds, punctuated by visits to temples as well as swimming breaks and wildlife viewing - white pelicans, Egyptian geese, and spoonbills, to name but a few. During sailing times, a range of various lectures and activities are offered. Not to mention the crew, in other words the soul of the boat: Sameh, the attentive and insightful manager; Chef Tayyeb, maestro of Egyptian cuisine; Abdul, the ever-smiling maître d’hôtel; the sailors in white galabiyas and their elegant agility during manoeuvres; the tugboat rais, who knows the winds and the river’s whims; the guide, who knows how to balance modern and ancient history to perfection. On request, you can privatise The Flâneuse, which can accommodate up to 14 people.

In Luxor and Aswan, your outstanding accommodation

As soon as you arrive in Luxor, you are drawn to the Nile like a magnet. Your hotel is the only palace on the Left Bank, set apart from the bustle of the city. Surrounded by gardens, you can savour the delightful silence of the countryside in a refined setting. The interiors give pride of place to Arab craftsmanship; the furniture was sourced from markets throughout the Near East. Guests savour garden produce and oriental cuisine from breakfast near the hibiscus and mandarin trees, and later by the beautiful pool or in the privacy of a charming patio. In Aswan, perched on its granite promontory facing Elephantine Island, your palace has been perpetuating the legend for more than a century. From Agatha Christie to François Mitterrand, and not forgetting Winston Churchill: the great figures of this world have succumbed to the spectacle of sunrise over the river, its rocks, and the ochre walls of the hotel. Many of the rooms in the historic wing have been transformed into suites, while the modern wing - this is where you set down your luggage - embraces contemporary elegance.

Itinerary

100% customisable for you

International flight to Cairo, then domestic flight to Luxor. You’ll be welcomed on arrival, followed by a private transfer, and then settle in for the night on the west bank of the Nile, away from the city, in the heart of 8 hectares (20 acres) of gardens. Here, you can savour the delightful silence of the countryside in a refined setting. The hotel is brimming with taste - good taste. The finest Arab craftsmen have worked here. The furniture was sourced from markets across the Near East. Magic happens, and comfort is absolute. You can savour garden produce and oriental cuisine with breakfast near the hibiscus and mandarin trees, lunch by the beautiful pool, and finally enjoy dinner in the large suite that opens onto a lovely patio. You unwind at the spa and lounge in the hammam.

Set off early in the morning to discover Karnak Temple: a profusion of elements from different eras and a remarkable chapter in history. Then, on the west bank, late morning is devoted to the Theban necropolis: the Valley of the Kings, where magnificently decorated tombs tell the story of the deceased’s journey through the afterlife, including a visit to the tomb of Ramses VI, which is 116 metres (381 feet) long.
The journey continues to Esna, the home port of the dahabiya, where you board and settle in. Lunch is served before departing for the first moments of sailing. You’ll arrive at El Hegz at the end of the day.

Sail to El Kab. Surrounded by a mudbrick wall during the periods 747-332 BCE, the city is believed to have been founded as early as the Neolithic period. Take the time to discover the rock-cut tombs carved into the mountainside.
Cruising resumes, and lunch is served on board. You pass fishermen, barges loaded with sugar cane or stones, and feluccas.
Stop at Edfu to visit the temple dedicated to the god Horus of Behdet, symbolised by a solar disc with falcon wings. It is one of the largest temples in Egypt - 26 metres (85 feet) high, 137 metres (449 feet) long and 79 metres (259 feet) wide - and among the best preserved, thanks to the sand that still covered it in the 19th century when the Egyptologist Mariette discovered it.
Your journey continues to Al Ramady Island.

Visit an Egyptian village on Al Ramady Island and take a short walk across the island. Then sail to Gebel Silsileh, under the protection of the god Hapi. On the western bank of the river stands a cave temple, or speos, dedicated to the god Horemheb and seven other deities, including the local god Sobek.
Take a walk and explore the ancient quarry for the sandstone used to build the temples. Sail to Maniha.

Cruising to Kom Ombo, perched on its promontory overlooking the Nile, is wonderfully romantic. Dedicated to two deities - Sobek the crocodile and Horus the falcon - the temple features perfectly symmetrical architecture. Visit the site, then return on board for lunch.
Sail to Hor Diab.

Sail towards Alakaleim-Aswan. Take a motorboat ride along the water and among the islands that form the majestic Aswan cataract, including Elephantine Island and Kitchener’s Island - also known as the “Island of Flowers” and famed as one of the most beautiful botanical gardens in Egypt. Stop for a break on a small island nicknamed “Mafia Island”, where you can taste the famous Arabic coffee while enjoying a view of the Nile. After the visit, return by bus for lunch on board the Flâneuse.
In the early afternoon, travel by bus to the Temple of Philae. 5 km (3 miles) south of Aswan, Agilkia Island has been home to the Temple of Philae, dedicated to Isis, the universal mother and wife of Osiris, since the dam was filled. Its bas-reliefs, frescoes and capitals make it one of the most beautiful sanctuaries in Egypt. Tour the site, then return on board for
dinner and the last night on the Flâneuse.

You disembark after breakfast. A private transfer takes you to your legendary accommodation, where you settle in for the night in the modern wing of the hotel. Originally, it was built to house Russian and Egyptian engineers during the construction of the Aswan Dam. Thanks to its renovation and the redesign of its interior by Sybille de Margerie, it now offers rooms and suites with a more contemporary, luxurious elegance. All of these open onto the river and feature the colours of ancient Egypt - shades of water green, turquoise and sand that echo the aquatic hues of the landscape.
Things to do and experience: Relax by the pool or enjoy a spa treatment; visit Elephantine Island, the centre of the cult of Khnum, master of the cataract, which is home to an impressive series of ancient ruins; or explore the Nubian Museum.

A private transfer takes you to the airport, followed by a flight to Cairo and then the international flight home.

À la carte

This suggested itinerary can be customisable down to the smallest detail, including duration, stops and content. An à la carte menu of experiences is also available to create a journey that reflects who you are.

The Theban Necropolis by hot-air balloon

Flying over the Valley of the Kings and Queens above the west bank of the Nile, in the peaceful glow of dawn, is an unforgettable and magical experience that offers a privileged glimpse of the region’s vast cultural gems. Transfers, the flight (40 minutes), and a light, pre-flight snack are included.

Introduction to hieroglyphs

Accompanied by a private guide with specialist knowledge of this ancient script, you will become familiar with this figurative writing system, which consists of characters representing various objects, both natural and man-made, such as plants, figures of gods, humans and animals. This artistic introduction will satisfy both children and adults.

300 km (186 miles) from Aswan, in the heart of Nubia, the temples of Abu Simbel, built in honour of the great Pharaoh Ramesses II, were carved into two sandstone hills facing the Nile. Bathed in African light, this grandiose complex magnified the power of the pharaoh over the southern peoples upon whom Egypt asserted its supremacy. A mythical site to discover in the company of a private guide.

A few days in Cairo

A short getaway to the capital before or after this exploration of Upper Egypt is possible, allowing you to visit Cairo’s great classics - the Pyramids of Giza and the Egyptian Museum - and to experience the unique atmosphere of the city’s vibrant whirlwind.
