The riverbanks have long drawn pharaohs and farmers alike, seduced by their fertility and beauty. The Nile Valley gathers Egypt’s most iconic ancient sites while remaining a living, breathing landscape. Daily life unfolds alongside temples and tombs. The true spirit of the Nile is best felt while sailing its calm waters. A timeless journey, open to the sky, from papyrus reeds to stone monuments. With Voyageurs du Monde, for a journey along the Nile Valley, choose to travel aboard our dahabiya La Flâneuse du Nil or the Steam Ship Sudan, an authentic period steamer.

Travel to Egypt by region

Cairo

A trip to Cairo is essential for anyone wishing to discover Egypt. For a long time now, Cairo has embraced excess: 250 km (155 miles) for the metropolitan area, around 150 neighbourhoods, and endless streets. But it’s not that hard to find your way around! The Nile divides the city in two. On the right bank, Tahrir Square and Qasr El Nil Street; further east is Old Cairo with its historic Coptic and Islamic districts. On the left bank is modern Cairo of the 1960s, and the city of Giza, with its fertile lands, millennia-old pyramids and their eternal mysteries. During a stay in Cairo, one should not miss the Egyptian Museum or a stroll through the Khan el-Khalili souk.

Egyptian Desert

A journey through the oases and the Libyan Desert is for travellers seeking a different Egypt, off the beaten track - those who appreciate history, magnificent landscapes, and nights spent in bivouacs. Far from the tourist trail carved by the Nile, the Libyan Desert is a microcosm of Egyptian history, dotted with oases that have welcomed travellers for millennia. Our favourite: the Siwa Oasis, the most remote in the Libyan Desert, on the Libyan border. An islet preserving history, culture and the environment. We love its hot springs, Fatnas Island with its lush vegetation, the shores of Lake Al-Zeytoun, and the sublime village of Shali. The Bahariya, Balat, Dakhla and Kharga oases, as well as the White Desert, are other must-sees in the region.

Nile Valley

The riverbanks have always welcomed pharaohs and fellahin alike, drawn by the beauty and fertility of the land. The Nile Valley brings together the most iconic sites of ancient Egypt while offering a vibrant spectacle of everyday life. It is by sailing on its peaceful waters that you will best capture the soul of the Nile. A timeless journey to be discovered in the open air, from its reeds to its tombs. For your journey to the Nile Valley with Voyageurs du Monde, choose the charm of our dahabiya “La Flâneuse du Nil” or the Steam Ship Sudan, our authentic period steamer.

Red Sea

Blues and ochres – the colours that will define your journey on the Red Sea. Delight in immersing yourself in these warmest waters in the world, where the azure blue comes alive with dazzling visions – magical fish in unimaginable colours and shapes. The most diverse corals are home to exceptional wildlife, and every appearance is breathtaking. But getting out of the water does not always mean catching your breath, as now it is the pale ochres of the desert sand and the almost white ochres of the beach, not to mention the orange hues of the mountains at sunset, that take over. During a stay at the Red Sea, the desert takes hold of you and the magic of the Orient echoes its ululations around every dune. A paradise for divers or Bedouins, but always a paradise.
