Itinerary highlights

  • Spend a night in a house with glass walls and a glass roof, go ice fishing… experiences only to be had in Greenland!
  • View the northern lights from both sea and land, snowmobile rides, dog sledding, and snowshoeing: these are also planned.
  • Carbon absorption, Concierge service, our recommendations: travel the Voyageurs way
Copenhagen is a bit of an appetizer. And although you are only passing through quickly, you shouldn’t skip the Danish capital, which, even in winter, has plenty to warm the heart: fascinating museums, a maze of canals, restaurants that brilliantly showcase New Nordic cuisine, cosy little cafes where you could easily spend the afternoon daydreaming, and trendy neighbourhoods filled with galleries and tempting boutiques… And of course, let's not forget design with a capital “D” - after all, this is Scandinavia. But you quickly find yourself wanting to move on to the main event, to the most magical part of the journey: Greenland. Landing in Nuuk, the country’s capital, founded by the Norwegians in the 18th century on a Viking and Inuit past. The chance to experience the first shades of white and the first northern lights that punctuate the night sky in winter. You then head towards strong>Ilulissat, a picturesque town on Disko Bay, in the west of this far-flung territory. Here, your neighbours are an icy fjord and a herd of icebergs famed for their impressive size. Imaginary polar landscapes become reality all around you: snow everywhere, traversed on snowshoes and sleds pulled by dogs whose joyful barking is magically muffled by the soft, snowy scenery. New northern lights stretch across the sky, ethereal clouds of solar particles setting off on a journey after an eruption… A final night in Ilulissat allows you to gently prepare for departure. As the snow crunches under your feet one last time, you try to capture the unique whiteness and calm of this remote corner of the world.

Your journey

Of course, you don’t travel to Greenland like you would elsewhere - this trip requires some logistics. But the flights flow smoothly and are not very long. Especially as you stop off in Copenhagen, where, between outdoor strolls and warm cafes, you are already immersed in North Atlantic cultures. In Greenland, the pace of activities is a little more lively - though never rushed - allowing you to make the most of winter’s delights: outings to observe the Northern Lights (at sea and on land), snowmobile rides, dog sledding and snowshoeing. As for your accommodations, these are perfectly suited to your needs and their location. In Copenhagen, you’ll stay in the heart of the trendy Vesterbro district, in a beautiful historic building with contemporary interiors. In Nuuk, you hang up your hat in a comfortable, contemporary establishment with a skyline restaurant. In Ilulissat, you enjoy breathtaking views of the Isfjord and its icebergs from your hotel - and from a cabin with glass walls and roof - as well as cosy amenities, including a warm lounge with a fireplace. On the last night, you will stay in a comfortable hotel, conveniently located near Copenhagen Airport. If you wish, other experiences can of course be added to your itinerary: a gourmet dinner in the Danish capital, a tour of Nuuk with a private guide, a helicopter flight over a glacier, or a few extra days on Uummannaq Island… For any sudden wishes or minor issues that may arise during your trip, you have the contact details of our on-site Concierge, who can be contacted at any time.

Itinerary

100% customisable for you

Upon arrival, stay the night at a sophisticated hotel housed in a magnificent 1800s building in the heart of the eclectic and vibrant Vesterbro district. It is a prime location close to Copenhagen's main attractions. The rooms are spacious and bright. As you would expect in Denmark, the interior design is elegant and the furniture comfortable.
Copenhagen is a capital city on a human scale and is best explored on pleasant strolls along the canals, past Renaissance mansions and pretty, colourful houses. Admittedly, it's not very warm in winter, but the capital is full of cosy places to curl up with a coffee or hot chocolate.
Optional - Four-course dinner in a trendy restaurant in the Vesterbro district.

Flight to Nuuk. The capital of Greenland was once Viking and Inuit. It then became Norwegian when a missionary ‘officially’ founded it in 1729. It remains the cultural and artistic centre of the island to this day.
Transfer and overnight stay in a contemporary establishment with simple, functional rooms. The interiors are relatively classic but comfortable and equipped with everything you need. The hotel has two restaurants: the first serves lunch with simple and varied dishes; the second is perched on the fifth floor and offers one of the most beautiful views of the city and the fjord for dinner. The setting is modern and the menu is mainly meat-based, offering all kinds of grilled dishes.
On your itinerary - A trip out to sea in search of the Northern Lights.. You will board a boat and sail through the fjords surrounding Nuuk, passing icebergs and graceful frozen landscapes. One of the miracles of these remote lands will take place in the sky above your heads: the Northern Lights.
Optional - Visit Nuuk with a private guide.

Transfer to the airport and flight to Ilulissat. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel, which is located on the heights of the city, overlooking the Isfjord. From this advantageous position, you can enjoy an exceptional view of the fjord and icebergs. The warm interiors harmoniously blend modern decor with Greenlandic craftsmanship. The rooms are cosy, as is the lounge with its fireplace, where you can snuggle up and chat at the end of the day. There are two restaurants on site. One is a brasserie and the other a gourmet restaurant. They both bend over backwards to satisfy even the most demanding palates.
See and do - The Isfjord Centre is a museum recognisable by its original wing-shaped wood and glass design. Its permanent collection is halfway between art and science and pays tribute to the Inuit way of life, based on a strong connection with nature.
On your evening itinerary - Observation of the Northern Lights, which is a fascinating natural phenomenon caused by powerful solar flares, forming a kind of “solar wind”. Located on the edge of the Arctic Circle, Greenland is one of the few places where it is possible to observe these fascinating coloured veils. To do so, you must of course wait until nightfall and get away from the city lights.

On your itinerary - An active day around Ilulissat. You’ll start the day on snowmobiles, speeding through the snow-covered landscapes of this remote corner of the world. Then you’ll change your mode of transport... and era! This time you’ll take your seat on a dog sled, accompanied by the joyful barking of the pack, which contrasts with the muffled silence that reigns all around. A fishing trip is already being prepared, and not just any fishing trip, but the famous ice fishing. This ancestral technique consists of digging a hole in the ice using a large manual auger (a kind of huge screw), then passing a line through it. Then you wait patiently for the catch, which you reel in using a tiny fishing rod.

On your itinerary - Snowshoeing around Ilulissat. The fact that the usual walking trails are covered in snow doesn't stop the Greenlanders! You wear snowshoes and stroll comfortably through the region, enjoying magnificent panoramic views along the way. On the way, you see sledges, frozen lakes, rivers and an incredible number of icebergs glistening in the winter light.
Return to Ilulissat and overnight stay in the same place as on the first day... but not in the same conditions. This time, you will have a small private house with glass walls and roof. The view of the fjord and icebergs is unobstructed, and you can enjoy beautiful Arctic panoramas from your bed. All this comes with unfailing comfort and privacy.
Optional - Helicopter flight over the Sermeq Kujalleq glacier.

Transfer to the airport and flight to Copenhagen via Nuuk. Stay the night at a modern and comfortable hotel located close to the airport.

Late morning, international return flight.

À la carte

This suggested itinerary can be customisable down to the smallest detail, including duration, stops and content. An à la carte menu of experiences is also available to create a journey that reflects who you are.

Private tour of Nuuk

Accompanied by a guide, stroll through the halls of the national museum, which traces the history of Greenland through beautiful exhibitions of ancient objects, knives, traditional Inuit clothing, kayaks, and umiaks (boats covered with seal skin). One of the highlights of the site is the Qilakitsoq mummies, dating from the 15th century. You will also visit the colonial district, where charming houses - some over three centuries old - stand in a row. A little later, you explore the market with its stalls selling fish and reindeer meat, as well as the parliament and the Katuaq cultural centre with its modern architecture.

Helicopter flight over Sermeq Kujalleq glacier

Take in breathtaking views of one of the world’s most active glaciers. An opportunity to observe from above the immense icebergs floating in the frozen fjord, and to approach the gigantic wall of ice before landing on the edge of the ice cap. A moment…suspended in time!

With a few more days... Uummannaq

Fromanbsp;Oqaatsut,  about 20 km (12 miles) north of Ilulissat, a short helicopter ride takes you to Uummannaq, a small settlement set on a heart-shaped island. In winter, the island is encircled by pack ice. A wonderful playground to live in, even further away from it all, offering fantastic outdoor adventures - ski touring, dog sledding, snowmobiling, and more. You stay in an apartment in the heart of the town, in direct contact with locals and nature.
