Itinerary highlights

  • Travel to Salzburg and then to the capital, and let yourself be carried away by the symphonies of Mozart and the waltzes of Strauss.
  • Old walls and new spirit: two hotels putting Austria on the map of the creative Europe.
  • Private guides, a dinner concert in Salzburg, the Leopold Museum in Vienna: it’s all planned.
  • Top accommodations, the Vienna Card, Concierge service: the extra Voyageurs touch
He was born here and died there. Between Salzbourg and Vienne what can only be described as a musical miracle was born: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The journey follows his life and also encounters the genius’ predecessors and successors - from Haydn and Salieri to Beethoven and Schubert. First, his birthplace: Salzburg, with its generous history and a culture that is still vibrantly alive. On both banks of the Salzach River, you’ll stroll through old streets lined with tall 17th- and 18th-century facades, where Renaissance elements are still present and wrought-iron signs mark charming shops (Getreidegasse, Judengasse, etc.). In spring, flowers bloom in colourful displays throughout the gardens of Mirabell Palace. And all year round, the Salzburger Nockerl, a soufflé dessert served with plum jam and vanilla cream, is a delight. In Vienna, you discover the joy of living in the famous cafés, in the parks, in fantastic museums, in the Heuriger wine taverns, in the imperial palaces, at the markets, and even in churches, whose baroque style has something both rich and playful about it. The rhythm of the waltz and the flow of the Danube add an imperial fluidity to all this. Vienna rightfully holds its own as one of the world’s most pleasant cities.

Your journey

Vienna and Salzburg are both accessible by train or by plane, so the choice is yours. Both your hotels elegantly combine a historic building, contemporary design and the art of hospitality. They are conveniently located in the centre of Salzburg and Vienna. From there, you have easy access to the main places of interest. Both offer the pleasure of fine dining: Austrian cuisine knows how to reinvent itself without betraying its origins. There are several highlights on your agenda. Two tours in the footsteps of private guides - they are the best people to provide you with the necessary cultural and practical information. And two musical events that are intimately connected with Austria: dinner to the sounds of Mozart and chamber music. In Vienna, you also have skip-the-line tickets for the Leopold Museum. Between the two cities, the train journey is fast, comfortable and easy. Along the way, an unexpected whim or setback may arise; you have the contact details of our on-site concierge service to handle this. Its in-depth knowledge of Austria and its people makes it a valuable asset.

Itinerary

100% customisable for you

Private transfer and a two-night stay at the foot of the Hohensalzburg Fortress. The foundations of the house, with its beautiful traditional sign, date back to the 14th century. This does not prevent it from being modern, arty and urban today. A contemporary style goes well with the old walls and beautiful floors. All that remained was to add colour. There are soft tones of white, grey, purple and brown. While all the rooms share the same spirit and commitment to comfort, each room has its own unique decor. The restaurant also has plenty to offer with its old painted vaults and new Salzburg cuisine. Nor is the wine lounge bar, built on top of a centuries-old cellar. In summer, tables are set up outside, where a light Mediterranean breeze blows. The hotel lends bicycles to its guests for rides around the city.

On your itinerary - A tour of the city with a private guide. Even if you have plenty of travel guides, a good local expert will give you a more in-depth tour of the city. We have planned for you to spend two hours with someone who knows their city really well. Your tour will include charming sites, such as the Capuchin monastery, which was built in 1596 and which belongs to the area that UNESCO has listed as a World Heritage Site, Hangar 7, where businessman Dietrich Mateschitz displays his collection of aeroplanes and cars, Mozart's birthplace: Getreidegasse 9, and the Holy Trinity Church, which was designed by Fischer von Erlach and built between 1694 and 1702.
Also planned - a dinner concert. St. Peter Stiftskulinarium is said to have opened in the 9th century, making it the oldest restaurant in Central Europe that is still operating. And what an operation! It perfectly demonstrates that, in order to remain a heritage site, it is important to evolve. Chef Manfred Besenböck does not rest on tradition but shakes it up and gives it a contemporary flavour that suits it well - and which, incidentally, is the only flavour that has ever existed. Add to that live renditions of Mozart, and you have a magical moment.

Train to Vienna. A three-night stay on Mariahilfer Strasse, one of Vienna's most famous shopping streets. Your accommodation is in an opulent building that took five years to renovate. The result is stunning. The majestic exterior pays homage to the city’s history. Inside, however, it's a real transformation. It is a modern take on classic Parisian chic combined with Scandinavian comfort and Japanese touches. It's elegant and contemporary, with a touch of nostalgia and glamour, but without going overboard. The emphasis is on impeccable service and the art of living. The restaurant has the feel of a new Parisian bistro, while the wellness area offers a sauna, hammam, yoga and meditation for those who want to escape the urban atmosphere for a while.
Just for you - We’ll give you a Vienna City Card that is valid for three days.

On your itinerary - A tour of Vienna, following the footsteps of the Viennese women who have made history. For centuries, women have created a new image of the Viennese woman: seductive in Klimt's paintings, castrating in Schiele's, Freudian and independent, corseted or liberated, submissive or dominant, etc. This stroll through the city traces the destinies of the Viennese women who have left their mark on the city's culture and history: the women in Freud's life, Bertha Zuckerkandl, the actresses of the Burgtheater, and of course Sisi (Empress Elisabeth of Austria), Pallas Athena and many others.
Also planned - a concert at St. Anne's Church. This church is located in the Innere Stadt district. It was built in the 15th century and was later given a Baroque makeover by the Jesuits. It celebrates Viennese classicism and romanticism. Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert provide the scores for the chamber orchestra's programme. Excellent acoustics and the musicians' dedication mean music-loving visitors will thoroughly enjoy the experience, and those who don’t know much about classical music will get an opportunity to explore it.

Already planned - Your fast-track tickets for the Leopold Museum, which brings together Viennese Art Nouveau, Wiener Werkstätte (Vienna Workshop) and Viennese Expressionism. Known for its impressive collection of paintings by Egon Schiele, it also features several works by the founder of the Vienna Secession, Gustav Klimt.
Optional - An evening at the Vienna State Opera; a private tour of Vienna's highlights.

A private transfer will take you to the train station or airport for your return journey.

À la carte

This suggested itinerary can be customisable down to the smallest detail, including duration, stops and content. An à la carte menu of experiences is also available to create a journey that reflects who you are.

The Salzburg Card

It provides free or discounted access to public transport and the city's main museums for 24 hours.

Vienna in the footsteps of a local

For two hours, you will benefit from the services of a private bilingual guide. Some people take this opportunity to discover the city’s customs and rhythms, while others gather valuable information for the rest of their trip, do some shopping, grab a bite to eat at the Naschmarkt, seek out Schubert’s house, Beethoven’s last residence or the villa designed by Ludwig Wittgenstein. In short, you can do as you wish according to the local calendar!

An evening at the Staatsoper

When they built the Vienna State Opera between 1861 and 1869, its designers, August Sicard von Sicardsburg and Eduard van der Nüll, faced harsh criticism. That did not prevent the theatre from taking its place in the life of the Viennese. The first golden era coincided with the ten years during which Gustav Mahler was in charge; after the Second World War, there was the Karajan era. The Staatsoper is a world-class venue, and every music lover ought to attend a performance there at least once. We therefore suggest organising this for you, so that your journey can be made more beautiful thanks to the arts.

With a few extra days… Travelling by train via Munich

Getting to Austria by train is not complicated, but doing it in one go would be a bit lengthy. We invite you to stop in Munich, the Bavarian capital, where happy memories can be made. Because life is good in Munich. A pair of Weisswürste at the Viktualienmarkt, next to the Marienplatz, and you’re ready to start the day! It might end at the Biergarten of the Chinese Tower, in the Englischer Garten. In the meantime, you will have seen Boucher’s Pompadour at the Old Pinakothek and Caspar David Friedrich’s Summer at the New Pinakothek. Music lovers will have studied the Philharmonie’s programme. Sports enthusiasts will have visited the Allianz Arena, where Bayern Munich is the resident club. Rococo enthusiasts will have stopped at the Asamkirche, etc. There is something for everyone. And that's without even mentioning the unmissable Augustiner Bräustuben.
