Arenal Volcano

In addition to its magnificent volcano and the ecological richness of its flora and fauna, Arenal Volcano National Park offers hot springs at 38°C (100°F), heavenly to relax in at the end of the day. During your stay in the Arenal Volcano region, there are many activities to enjoy, including horseback riding, hanging bridges, and a panoramic cable car. Tenorio Volcano National Park hides the astonishing Celeste River, with its magnificent turquoise reflections in the heart of the forest. Near the neighbouring Miravalles volcano, take a revitalising break at one of the thermal establishments. It’s an ideal base for exploring the Caño Negro or Palo Verde National Parks.

Caribbean Coast

Is it nature that sets the pace for humans, or the other way around? One would be inclined here to choose the first option, as the Caribbean waves serve as a soundtrack to the indolence of the place, and the thick carpets of tropical forest are so densely packed on the horizon that they encourage you to linger along the coast. With Jamaican influence ever-present, reggae music plays day and night along this Caribbean coast, so different from the rest of the country. Stroll through Puerto Viejo de Talamanca, where surfing is a religion, put on your mask and snorkel in Manzanillo, then head north to the Tortuguero wetlands where crocodiles, frogs, monkeys, sloths, and more than 240 species of birds live. Pacific Coast

Are you dreaming of beaches ideal for swimming and water sports? A stay on Costa Rica’s Pacific coast is a must, as it holds the record for sunshine in the province of Guanacaste; as for Playa Grande, leatherback turtles come to lay their eggs there from December to April. The Osa Peninsula is home to one of the largest tropical forests in Central America. Protected by its status as a national park, Corcovado, a region that is difficult to access, has managed to remain wild and preserve its wildlife and plant life. From Drake, the boat trip to Isla del Caño, a renowned diving spot, allows for the observation of dolphins and whales during their great migrations. Wonder and a change of scenery, guaranteed!

San José & Central Costa Rica

San José is your point of arrival in Costa Rica. As the capital and the economic and cultural hub, nearly half of the country’s population lives there. The climate is spring-like throughout the year. Departure point for exploring the central valley of mountain ranges and dense, humid tropical forests, home to quetzals and hummingbirds. The Pacuare River offers kilometres or miles of lively, untamed waters and class III and IV rapids. Children enjoy the Sarapiqui River, accessible from age seven.
