Irish family adventure

From $2400 to $3500 per person for 8 days Price depends on departure city, season, accomodation types and selected activities

Itinerary highlights

  • Dublin, County Clare and Connemara: the best of Ireland for parents and children
  • Cycling along the verdant paths of Inishmore Island and admiring the prowess of the sheepdogs - already planned
  • Stay in a townhouse, then in the countryside, before setting down your bags with an ocean view
  • Flexible pace, rental car, on-site Concierge: a hassle-free family holiday!
You are travelling by car; getting used to driving on the left only takes a few kilometres. In any case, you won't be going very fast: Irish roads are winding, and around the next bend you might come across a herd of donkeys or sheep, which you will have to follow at walking pace. As soon as you take to the road in Ireland, you change gear. A leisurely pace that allows you to admire the scenery, a way to meander behind the wheel. The stops are short, tailored to what children can withstand. Throughout the trip, your accommodation has been carefully selected. First, the full Georgian atmosphere of a townhouse in Dublin, so you can explore as much as possible on foot. Then a lovely building in the heart of a 30-hectare (74-acre) private estate, offering views of the beauty of the Connemara landscape. Finally, a family-run establishment set on the water’s edge at Spanish Point, allowing visitors of all ages to let off steam on the wet sand - or even to go for a swim for the more adventurous. On your itinerary, to keep your family entertained, we have arranged a visit to discover sheepdogs at work in Connemara, as well as a day of cycling on Inishmore Island (if the little ones are reluctant to pedal, a trailer can be attached to the older children’s bikes). Finally, should you need it, you have the contact details of our on-site concierge, who is available at any time.

In Ireland, you will love…

A full Irish breakfast with bacon, sausages and scrambled eggs - a stroll through the Long Room at Trinity College in Dublin: it feels like stepping into the Harry Potter library - admire sheepdogs at work - meet the lambs - cycle along the ocean - go sea fishing - devour some fish and chips - dance to musicians and singers in the pubs - walk against the wind on the cliffs before descending to the pebble beaches - photograph ruined castles - play hurling, a blend of rugby and field hockey - taste chocolate donuts!

Itinerary

100% customisable for you

Private transfer on arrival to leafy St Stephen’s Green in the centre of the capital. Two-night stay in one of the Georgian-style town houses, which offer excellent hotel accommodation. Inside, blue-green is the dominant colour, with touches of bronze, old gold and deep warm brown. There's a sense of romanticism in the air, and the furnishings are reminiscent of the 19th century. The rooms are comfortable, bright and well equipped, and have both the elegance and the welcoming feel that so often characterises Irish interiors. Breakfast is served in a lovely dining room. And the bar is the perfect place to look back at your day over a refreshing drink.

Not to be missed - a stroll through the old Temple Bar quarter; step inside the two major Anglican churches, Christ Church and St Patrick’s Cathedral; admire the illuminated pages of the Book of Kells at Trinity College - the Long Room looks like something straight out of a Harry Potter book; enjoy a picnic on the lawns of St Stephen’s Green; shop for tweed and knitwear at the Kilkenny Centre; pick up a copy of "Ulysses" at Hodges Figgis; cycle along the Liffey, stopping at the Ha’penny Bridge, the city’s first pedestrian bridge, completed in 1816, and for a change from Guinness, sip a craft beer at the Porterhouse pub - a favourite with craft beer enthusiasts.
Optional - a private tour of Dublin with a French speaking guide.

Pick up your rental car and drive to Letterfrack, the gateway to Connemara National Park. Along the way, you might like to stop off at another Irish capital - Galway, the festival city. Traditional music echoes through the narrow medieval streets, interrupted only by the sound of visitors' hurried footsteps on the cobblestones.
On arrival in Letterfrack, you'll settle in for three nights at an accommodation on the shores of Ballinakill Bay. The building blends beautifully into its surroundings, a private 74-acre (30-hectare) estate: ivy climbs quietly over the brick façade, and the veranda windows let in the light and the green of the world outside. The interiors are slightly kitsch, and wonderfully welcoming - especially when your look out onto to the wild coastline outside. In the restaurant, the chefs showcase local produce of course: Connemara mountain lamb, line-caught mackerel and Cleggan Bay crab.

Letterfrack is an excellent base for exploring the surrounding area. The village isn't only the gateway to Connemara National Park: it's just ten minutes away from the stunning Kylemore Abbey with its neo-Gothic church and Victorian gardens, as well as close to the Sky Road, considered to be one of the most scenic routes in the country, and not far from Killary, Ireland’s only fjord. Plenty of things to help you plan an exciting family itinerary!
In your itinerary - watching sheepdogs at work in Connemara. The third generation to occupy the site, Joe Joyce, enthusiastically took over the family sheep farm, where his wife Mary Ann, together with his loyal team of border collies are always on hand to help. At a private demonstration, both adults and children will be astounded by the intelligence and agility of these dogs as they herd the sheep. Joe's passion for his work is contagious, and the little lambs' hesitant steps will be sure to melt more than a few hearts.
Optional - Connemara deer viewing safari.

Drive to County Clare. Two-night stay not far from the Atlantic coast. Each of the rooms at your hotel is unique, the work of a team of Irish designers. They're all spacious and tastefully decorated, using locally made fabrics and furniture. Throughout the hotel, the designers have cleverly brought the outside in, and the sea views are breathtaking, constantly changing as the hours go by. The hotel also proudly showcases its heritage in its dining options, preparing dishes that use fresh ingredients, and serving excellent beer. In the pub, you’ll find a collection of objects that tell the story of the hotel. Nearby: the Cliffs of Moher, Loop Head Peninsula, the Burren, and the Aran Islands - plenty of interesting places to fill your days.

In your itinerary - a day cycling on Inishmore at your own pace. Cycling is an excellent way to explore the largest of the Aran Islands in Galway Bay. Against the background of the sweeping waves of the North Atlantic, Inishmore, with its high, dark cliffs offers visitors a timeless experience. You'll love wandering along the paths lined by dry stone walls that define the small plots of land as well as offering protection from the wind, salt and seaweed from the ocean. The local inhabitants are families that have seen generations of fishermen, and it's easy to adopt their slow pace of life. A walk on Inishmore to visit the island’s archaeological sites, such as the Neolithic fort of Dun Aengus and Ireland’s oldest monastery is also a journey back in time.

Drive to Dublin Airport, return your rental car and take your international flight home.

À la carte

This suggested itinerary can be customisable down to the smallest detail, including duration, stops and content. An à la carte menu of experiences is also available to create a journey that reflects who you are.

Dublin with a private guide

The capital of the Republic of Ireland is a city full of contradictions: Catholic and Anglican, Celtic beneath a classical exterior, both working class and wealthy. To make sure you don't miss any of the rich history that explains such diversity, you can include a guided tour to your itinerary. The guide shares anecdotes about the city’s highlights, slips into hidden spots, and answers all the visitors’ questions - young and old. The pace of the tour, which lasts about four hours, is of course tailored to the abilities and requirements of your group.

Safari to encounter the deer of Connemara

Setting off at dawn and equipped with binoculars, we hope to catch a glimpse of the majestic red deer of Connemara. The scenery seen through the 4x4’s windows is ever-changing, from moorlands to peat bogs, meadows to forests, with mountains as a backdrop. Suddenly, a red coat appears briefly. Then, its characteristic bellow resounds: there is no longer any doubt. A few metres further on, two males are locked in a fierce duel, antlers clashing against antlers. The stakes are high: the favour of the herd of females, who patiently await the outcome of the fight to discover the identity of the champion.
