Malaysia is a diverse country. In addition to white beaches, it offers a sense of the future and a remarkable artistic and natural heritage. When you arrive in Kuala Lumpur, you can see that it is the driving force behind the country's future: the engine of globalisation is running at full speed here. The economy is booming, and the culture is benefiting as a result. The flavours are multiplying. At the same time, traditional neighbourhoods are gaining a newfound respect. Three days is just enough time to get the most out of it all. Tin made Ipoh’s fortune, which is where you will visit next. With the necessary resources at their disposal, sponsors and architects had a field day. All the communities involved in mining and its related industries have built and left behind a testament to optimism in stone. Today, it is one of the most authentic Malaysian cities. The karst landscape of the Kinta Valley is spectacular and ideal for outdoor activities. Owing to its important history at the crossroads of major maritime trade routes and its old town full of tropical romance, UNESCO has listed Penang / George Town as a World Heritage Site. This place was not born out of the latest wave of globalisation. Long-haul travel is the norm. This is a magnificent port, where the Peranakan Chinese have been setting the tone for years. Finally, Langkawi - in the archipelago that bears its name - brings the trip to a gentle close, with beautiful white sandy beaches and a geologically interesting hinterland. UNESCO, which has certainly looked at Malaysia closely, has listed Langkawi as a Global Geopark. The mangroves in the Kilim Geoforest Park are particularly noteworthy. They are sure to make you feel wonderful. And they deliver on their promise.

Your trip

At the forefront of development in Asia, Malaysia offers excellent overall comfort. You will see this at every stop during your trip: international standing in Kuala Lumpur, a spa retreat in Ipoh, colonial treasures in George Town or a seaside sanctuary in Langkawi. The hotels we have selected for you is both appropriate and atmospheric. The night-times are part of the trip and you should enjoy them as much as the rest. In terms of transport, everything is arranged as precisely as possible. Local transfers and the Ipoh/Penang connection are made in air-conditioned cars with drivers. Between Kuala Lumpur and Ipoh, you’ll take the train: a moment for contemplation that is always pleasant. And to get to the Langkawi archipelago, you’ll take a short flight. Your transport is efficient and suitable in all situations. And sure to save you that commodity that is always precious when travelling: time. From discreet bars in Chinatown in Kuala Lumpur to George Town with friends, the aim is to give you the most authentic experience of how Malaysians live their lives today. It’s on your itinerary. The rest of the time, you can explore on your own, in the city, in the countryside, or by the sea. The trip offers you a wealth of contrasts and facets. By exploring on your own, you will find that the country is easy to navigate. This is probably due to the long-standing habit of seeing foreigners come and go. Nevertheless, if you would like us to arrange a special visit to Kuala Lumpur or Ipoh, book a meal in a cave or organise a walk in Penang's countryside, just let us know. And if you change your mind or something unexpected happens on the trip, you will have the contact details of our on-site Concierge service at your disposal.

Itinerary

100% customisable for you

Night on board, arrival the next day.

Private transfer and three-night stay in a city centre building. Your room is available on arrival. The international style of the hotel is elegant. No doubt the skilful use of brick has something to do with it. In Malaysia, people do not necessarily seek picturesque details, but rather comfort and service. Aesthetics go hand in hand with functionality. And it’s a complete success. Your room has everything you could need. Large windows, harmonious colours, immaculate bedding. Old photographs remind you that you weren’t born yesterday. The house restaurant draws inspiration from France. High above, there’s a bar and a pool with a view of KL
Optional - Kuala Lumpur like a friend.

Scheduled - Chinatown’s speakeasies. Kuala Lumpur’s Chinatown is perfectly aware of the aura of mystery that surrounds it. And it plays along with it. Of course, opium dens are a thing of the past, but the idea of a back door still holds great appeal. That's why the trendy new bars are tucked away at the end of narrow lanes. To be in the spotlight these days, you no longer need to be on the main street. With your private guide, you set out to explore some of these spots where knowing your way around really matters. And it’s a real pleasure to find one you like, because here, they truly understand what a cocktail should be. Next, the atmosphere shifts in the Malay district of Kampung Baru. With its old wooden houses, coconut trees and banana trees, it"s a rather extravagant and very charming rural enclave. Walk around here after afternoon tea, and marvel at the shifting scales of a city that delights in startling contrasts at every turn.

Kuala Lumpur blend. Like all major cities? Maybe, but with a bit more heart. In any case, walking around, you go from one surprise to the next. It comes down to the entanglements of history and those of globalisation. On top of that, we’re in luck: the Malaysian national dish is sold (and eaten) on the street. It’s nasi lemak (coconut milk rice, belachan, hard-boiled egg and small fried items). Street food is a true expression of the fusion identity of the local people. The dishes are of Chinese (char kuey teow, stir-fried noodles, bak kut teh, pork ribs), Indian (roti canai, flatbread, dal, lentil soup), and Malay (satay, meat skewers; ikan bakar, grilled marinated fish) origin. And so much more! A true culinary commentary on the urban fabric. You can also choose one district or another. Like Little India, for example, where people trade and pray on a grand scale and in vibrant colours.

Private transfer to the railway station. Train to Ipoh. New private transfer and settle in for two nights in a majestic landscape of limestone peaks, lakes, streams and green woods. Waterfront, caves, platforms - your accommodation fits into the landscape rather than just occupying it. You have your own private villa by the lake; on your doorstep, a pool just for you. Inside, the spaces are open, spacious, well-ventilated, and equipped to ensure notable comfort. Malaysia’s contemporary decor. Now is the time for natural wellness: thermal baths, Ayurvedic treatments, traditional Malay massages, and more. Additionally: there is a meditation cave and a crystal cave, hot cave, cold pool. The restaurant, tailored to wellness requirements, adapts its menus without giving up the pleasure of good food.
Optional - A dinner at Jeff’s Cellar. Set in a cave adorned with rock formations, this restaurant-bar and wine bar is not only a unique venue but also offers a chance to see that Asian flavours and wine can make the perfect pairing.

Ipoh, the birthplace of the great Michelle Yeoh - Tomorrow Never Dies and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, to name just a few of her works  - is truly Malaysian. Here you find the juxtaposition of indigenous, Chinese, British and Indian elements - the legacy that history has left to the peninsula. And the prosperity brought by mining in the 19th century made this heritage opulent. This is all to the benefit of travellers, who see some truly beautiful sights. And in good condition, since tourism helps maintain the buildings. Restaurants, cafes and shops abound. Trade is practised here as one of the fine arts. During your walks, you’ll be spoiled for choice when it comes to temptation. This makes a lovely counterpoint to the hotel’s wellness approach. Malaysia holds the secret to unexpected balances.
Optional - A private visit to The City of Millionaires.

Private transfer to Penang. Stay for two nights in George Town, at one of those establishments that have made history in Asian hotel industry. Founded in 1884, it saw both glory and hardship before recently regaining its status. Spacious, immaculate buildings, luxurious interiors, colonial inspiration adapted to contemporary Malaysia. The rooms have the polish, the silkiness, and the welcoming shade that define grand equatorial style; the bathrooms have clawfoot bathtubs. The friendly competition between the hotel’s various restaurants is a real advantage for travellers: fusion, Malay, British - the cuisine meets high standards. And there are places where afternoon tea is more of a must than elsewhere. Here, for example. The gardens and pool overlook the strait; a separate wing houses the services. The trained and stylish staff help to make your stay enjoyable.

On your itinerary - George Town, a multicultural city, explored as a private visit. George Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is emblematic of the straits culture that shaped Malaysian identity. So, what do we do with our guide? We visit Little India, where saris and spices sweep through every shade of the spectrum. You step into the Pinang Peranakan Mansion, which showcases the Straits Chinese art of living in a magnificent early 20th-century house. Imagination finds its place here, as does a sense of history. The clan piers, built in the 19th century, sheltered different guilds who lived from the sea. They are now among the most picturesque features of George Town. Contemporary art has found its place in the city, too. The street painting installations created by Lithuanian artist Ernest Zacharevic have earned him international recognition. In short, there’s plenty to do with your guide.
Optional - Penang nature, villages and artisans.

Flight to Langkawi. Private transfer and check in for three nights on the southwest coast of the island. On the beach. The hotel claims a Mediterranean spirit. The overall appearance and bright colours reflect this, but the interiors feature comfortable neo-colonial decor. This is layered with a touch of chic in the laid-back mood that comes with being by the sea. Your well-equipped studio faces the open sea, and you have your own small, private garden. Between the long white beach and your doorstep, an inviting pool lends a touch of blue beneath the palm trees. A spa with Malay traditions and natural cosmetics, and a gym, complete the facilities. At the restaurant, Asian, Australian and British dishes are served in a briny atmosphere. Depending on the circumstances, tables are set on the terrace, on the sand or indoors. The location of the property truly merits sunset certification.

First, there is the beach. Which needs no lengthy explanation. Let us simply state that this place offers the ideal conditions for relaxation, with a gentle atmosphere and a lazy sea, perfect for swimming. Banana boat and sea kayak both have their fans. Diving and snorkelling are enjoyed in the clear waters of the archipelago. Not on Langkawi itself, but mainly on the protected coral reefs of Pulau Payar. Exploring the mangrove areas - along the Kilim River, for example - reveals the surprising richness of the wildlife. Small plains separated by limestone ridges around the edges, a Cambrian mountain range enclosed within it - the island is full of contrasts. The Langkawi Sky Bridge, reached by cable car to Mount Mat Chinchang, lets you walk high above the ground with a fantastic panoramic view. From golf to walks in the canopy, as well as nighttime outings in the jungle and birdwatching, there are always great opportunities to have fun and be surprised: Langkawi offers a wonderful range of outdoor activities.
Optional - A private visit to Kilim Nature Park.

Transfer to the airport, flight to Kuala Lumpur, then flight home. Night on board, arrival the next day.

À la carte

This suggested itinerary can be customisable down to the smallest detail, including duration, stops and content. An à la carte menu of experiences is also available to create a journey that reflects who you are.

Kuala Lumpur like a local

The residents of Kuala Lumpur consider your guide as one of their own. Your guide has in-depth knowledge of the city's geography and customs. And they stay up to date with what’s happening. In their company, you start to live like a local. Nothing is set in stone: you have some meetings, discuss tastes and colours, lay out your expectations, ask questions and talk about what you’d like to do, and then you get started. By adopting the general style. Architecture enthusiasts that are drawn to Malaysian charm can start with the elegant eclecticism of the old railway station (1910), then continue on to the Kuala Lumpur Tower (1996) or the Petronas Towers (1998). Urban parks, such as Titiwangsa Lake Park or the Perdana Botanical Gardens, provide a surprising sense of peace. The cuisine, available in countless restaurants of various types, faithfully reflects the complex influences at play here. There is more culture here than you may expect and commerce is on the level you would expect.

Ipoh - A private tour of the City of Millionaires

In the 1880s, the current capital of the state of Perak experienced a boom after a large tin deposit was discovered there. This gave many people the opportunity to build meticulously. The City of Millionaires was born. One of them went on to develop New Town on the western bank of the Kinta River. Today, many buildings from this era - particularly those in British and Chinese colonial styles - still adorn the city. With a private English-speaking guide, you can enjoy an informed perspective and the pleasure that comes with it. On top of this, Ipoh is renowned for its excellent cuisine. All Malaysians will confirm this.

Nature, villages and artisans of Penang

Penang is also the Malaysian and agricultural hinterland of George Town. The island is mountainous, covered with forests (some of which are primary forests), cultivated fields and spice gardens. Accompanied by a private English-speaking guide and driver, your day will begin with a visit to a batik workshop, where you can learn about the traditional technique of dyeing fabric with wax. Then it's off to the market. Here, farmers come to sell the colourful fruits of their labour. And it’s a place where lively discussions take place around the stalls. The Snake Temple is Chinese in style and attracts local Buddhist worshippers, as well as visitors from Singapore, Taiwan and mainland China. A visit to a coffee plantation brings the tour to a close.

Langkawi - A private tour of Kilim Geoforest Park

The karst formations and mangroves of Kilim Geoforest Park, northeast of Langkawi, are exceptionally well preserved. Much better than at many more well-known sites, here you can see what this environment is like in its entirety. The trip among the peaks and mangroves is done by boat, with an English-speaking guide. You set foot on land to enter a cave. Then, you set sail again. Perched on a high branch, with its white neck, is a sacred white-collared kite. A flash of saffron and a cackling sound, it's a brown-winged kingfisher. As for the pied hornbill, it definitely has a strange look about it. The mangrove experience!
