Itinerary highlights

  • Island-hopping through the San Blas archipelago is the best way to explore the land of the Kuna people.
  • Jungle walks and boating on Lake Gatún (Panama Canal); cave exploration and kayaking on Lake Bayano: it’s all planned!
  • Skipper and chef, kayaking, diving - total freedom aboard your private catamaran.
  • carbon absorption, direct flights, private transfers, Concierge: the extra Voyageurs touch
For over a century, the Panama Canal - a landmark feat of engineering - has saved ships sailing between the Pacific and Atlantic thousands of nautical miles, leaving Cape Horn to explorers seeking the wildest nature. One of those legendary places where everything comes together - from gigantic ships flying the flags of every continent to the most varied merchandise. A place worth visiting, whether briefly or at length, to truly understand it and let its story unfold. From lakes to locks, from natural viewpoints to historic buildings that tell the story of its tumultuous construction, you’ll become acquainted with this major commercial crossroads that played a key role in the rise of Panama City, a global hub. The capital’s economic and urban dynamism is certainly interesting, but here the focus is on its roots - and more specifically on the Casco Antiguo district. The cradle of a delightfully old-fashioned Panama City, it is best explored on foot, with eyes and ears wide open to take in every detail of its fascinating colonial heritage. After three days rich in discoveries and encounters - including a new culture, architecture and cuisine - we’ll slowly head towards the coast and the San Blas Islands, a Caribbean paradise best reached by a four-day sailing cruise. First, you’ll notice the palette of blues. They are relentless, endless and almost unreal. The water, the sky - it’s hard to tell where the Caribbean of the air begins and where that of the waves ends. No matter - the catamaran glides delightfully somewhere between the two. There are also the islets. Countless, mostly wild like something out of a tropical engraving. The boat carves its path from one side to the other. White sandy beaches, wind-swept coconut palms, teeming underwater life: this décor may appear throughout the archipelago, but the eye never tires of it. On the contrary, during this gently paced private cruise, you’ll (re)discover the curious explorer within. If the catch of the day is good - and it always is! - the chef will be all smiles, and so will we. In the meantime, nothing stops you from taking out the kayak to work your arms a bit. Home to the indigenous Kuna islanders, the archipelago also offers the chance for rich interaction with a little-known ancestral culture.

Your journey

Direct international flights, private transfers, a city hotel with rooftop and pool in the capital, comfortable cabins on a catamaran reserved for your group… This trip will be easy, or it won’t happen at all. It’s also an educational experience, thanks to two highlights planned in Panama City: a hike in the jungle followed by a boat trip on Lake Gatún - an integral part of the Panama Canal - and exploring the Bayano Lake caves, on foot and by kayak. Two wonderful experiences suitable for everyone, organised by private guides. On the catamaran, everything is decided on the spot, based on your wishes and the weather: which island to anchor off of, which waters to dive into, which beach to lay your towel on… And for anything you would like to add to the itinerary or for any minor setbacks, you have the contact details of our on-site Concierge, who is available throughout your trip.

Itinerary

100% customisable for you

Arrive in Panama City and private transfer to the central Bella Vista district, where you stay for three nights. Your hotel is modern with spacious, bright and comfortable rooms. The decor is understated and you soon feel at home. The rooftop pool beside a large, beautiful shaded terrace with breathtaking views over the city is an added bonus.
Panama City is one of Central America's most cosmopolitan capitals and undeniably a major cultural, economic and natural hub. Beyond its frenetic urban sprawl reminiscent of the Miami skyline, the city still boasts its share of old churches, cobblestone streets and charmingly crumbling colonial stonework.

Head to the legendary Panama Canal, where construction began in 1882 under the leadership of the French entrepreneur Ferdinand de Lesseps. Connecting the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, the structure is both an engineering marvel and a global commercial hub. Every day around forty pleasure boats and cargo ships pass through it to avoid sailing around South America.
In your itinerary - Private jungle hike and lake cruise. Spend the day with a guide exploring the area around Panama City, starting with a dense tropical forest that is home to numerous animals, including howler monkeys which you can't fail to miss! At the end of an enjoyable walk through the jungle, visit a sloth sanctuary, where you can observe these fascinating animals that live life at such a slow pace. After lunch, board a boat for a cruise on Gatun Lake, an artificial lake that forms part of the Panama Canal. The boat is the perfect vantage point to take in the vastness of the tropical forest and perhaps spot monkeys, iguanas and even crocodiles in their natural habitat.
Optional extra - Panama Canal locks and lakes private tour.

In your itinerary - Bayano Lake private tour. Bayano Lake, created in 1976 when the dam of the same name was built, is a beautiful spot where Panamanians flock to enjoy its cool air. Even though it is an artificial lake, it still has mysterious canyons and caves that are full of adventure. Follow your guide and set off with a headlamp to walk through the caves. Then climb into a kayak to continue your exploration on the water. There’s plenty of swimming breaks during the day and you'll also meet the local bats who are quite harmless.
Optional extra - Experience the lush beauty of Anton Valley with a private guide.

Private transfer to Linton Bay Marina, then board your private catamaran for four days and four nights of sailing. Your floating home is a boat well suited to sailing in this region, and ideal for getting as close as possible to the beaches. Inside, you’ll find all the comforts of a hotel with well-equipped cabins, an open deck, and a spacious lounge where you can gather. Meals are prepared, whenever possible, with the catch of the day or with delicious lobster, crab and tropical fruit from the capital’s market.

Once on board, there's only one watchword: freedom! The cruise itinerary is decided with the captain, depending on weather conditions, of course. The catamaran sails for an average of one to two hours a day before anchoring in a carefully selected location. Also known as “Kuna Yala” by the Kuna community, the wonderful San Blas Islands have many attractions, from Cayos Holandeses to Cayos Coco Bandero and Isla Verde. Although the archipelago comprises 378 islands, only 60 are inhabited by the Kuna, who have a lively tradition and language. The whole area is a paradise for divers and swimmers alike.

You bid farewell to the crew and the catamaran in which you have sailed from adventure to adventure. A private transfer takes you back to the capital, where you spend the night at the same place as on your arrival. The rooftop terrace and its pleasant swimming pool allow you to prolong your holiday a little longer...
To add to your itinerary - Private tour of Casco Antiguo.

Private transfer to the airport and international return flight. Night on board, arrival the next day.

À la carte

This suggested itinerary can be customisable down to the smallest detail, including duration, stops and content. An à la carte menu of experiences is also available to create a journey that reflects who you are.

A day in private discovering the Panama Canal

More specifically, the lakes and locks that make it up. First, take in the view from the Miraflores lock. From the platform, you’ll get a real sense of the sheer complexity of managing the traffic and the precise manoeuvres carried out to the nearest centimetre. Next, you’ll stop at the village of Gamboa, which traces the epic story of the construction. This area is home to old colonial houses from the 1930s, which give the place a charming, nostalgic character. Navigation resumes on Lake Gatún, which was created during the construction of a dam on the Chagres River and today forms a large part of the Canal.
Optional.

A day in El Valle de Antón

Two hours from Panama City, this valley feels like a lush garden nestled in the heart of a large caldera of about 20 km² (8 square miles). Perched at 600 metres above sea level, it is much loved by Panamanians for its cool air. Here, temperatures range from 20 to 26°C. People come for the craft market, the waterfalls, the botanical garden and the petroglyphs (rock art), among other things. The day ends with four zipline descents, from platform to platform.
Optional.

The Casco Antiguo in private

Also known as “Panama Viejo”, this historic district is the cultural jewel of Panama City. This walking tour traces the origins of the neighbourhood, dating back to around 1670 when Spanish settlers arrived. It then moved through the centuries, revealing a variety of architectural styles and diverse façades. Today, these carefully restored buildings and palaces house gourmet restaurants, boutiques, high-end residences and museums. Next, we’ll linger at the Panama Canal Museum to explore the full history of its construction. You’ll then head to San José Church with its impressive golden altar, the Altar de Oro, shrouded in mystery. The tour ends at the seafood market with an unmissable tasting of ceviche, a speciality of raw fish marinated in lime.
Optional

With a few more days... Bocas del Toro

With three extra nights, discover a second archipelago: Bocas del Toro, where you can meet the Ngöblé and Buglé (or Guaymi) indigenous communities and their cacao culture. With its crystal-clear waters, white sandy beaches, tropical atmosphere and wild lushness, the archipelago is a true slice of paradise. Located on the border with Costa Rica, Bocas del Toro has had its share of legends from the age of pirates. Today, people appreciate its delightful laid-back atmosphere and the charm of its Caribbean-coloured houses. Relaxation, day cruises, snorkelling… everything feels possible here.
Optional.
