  • The aesthetic heritage of Panama City, the unmistakable ease of island life.
  • In private, uncover the mysteries of the legendary canal and sail on Lake Gatún; enjoy several sessions of snorkelling, swimming and relaxing - quite a programme.
  • Private transfers, airport lounge, mobile app, Wi-Fi, Concierge service: travel the Voyageurs way
Gentle yet rich, this journey was designed for the curious who still want to take time to relax and escape everyday life. Above all, for pople who want to get to know Panama. Here, you’ll explore both city and sea, using the capital and precious islands as gateways to this little-known country. First stop: Panama City - where you’ll spend another night before your return flight. A cosmopolitan capital shaped by diverse influences, it also keeps pace with the times. And not far from the Casco Antiguo, its historic district with colonial charm, flows the legendary Panama Canal. Thanks to an ingenious system of locks, it saves ships from around the world from a detour the size of a continent. Still on the same coast, we’ll fly north to reach Bocas del Toro, a dreamlike archipelago floating close to the border with Costa Rica. Isla Bastimentos, Isla Caranero, Isla San Cristobal and Isla Colón - the island where you’ll stay - all exude a delightful Afro-Caribbean atmosphere. It’s a wonderful world of mangroves, red coral, giant tortoises, sloths and dolphins. Life here is laid-back - you move from a morning yoga session to breakfast with an ocean view, from a bike ride along the beaches to a surf session, from a nap in the shade of palm trees to a feast of grilled prawns, from a couples massage to watching the sunset with your feet in the sand. You then move on to the sands of the Pacific coast and settle in the Gulf of Chiriquí, on the secluded Isla Palenque, a 150-hectare tropical gem - one of those far-flung corners of the world you never truly return from, or at least not unchanged. Here, you can really enjoy everything - on the water, under the water, and along the beaches. Not to mention indescribable pleasures such as moments of pure idleness, daydreaming, letting go... those scents you notice and wish you could bottle to take with you, those unfamiliar sounds that together create an unforgettable soundtrack. All those “little things” we so desperately need and that make all the beauty of a journey.

Your journey

To take all practical concerns off your mind, we have spared no effort with logistics. Not that Panama calls for any special preparations, but the itinerary we have chosen means venturing a little further into the archipelagos and using several modes of transport, without spending all your time travelling. In this way, all your transfers by land and sea have been arranged. Apart from international flights, you’ll only fly very briefly, just to travel from one coast to the other. Everything follows on smoothly. And on site, you can count on many other services, starting with Wi-Fi everywhere you go, including on the beaches of these wonderful islands that so few people know. You’ll also have access to a mobile app where you can view your trip details and our recommendations we suggest at each destination. Finally, you are accompanied by a private guide during your visit to the Panama Canal locks and your cruise on Gatún Lake, offering insights into this unique place. As for anything you haven't planned but might want to experience once you're there, or if you'd like to add something to your itinerary - a few days in the green Boquete region, for example - you can rely on the assistance of our on-site Concierge for this and much more.

Your addresses

In Panama City - Upon your arrival in the capital, you’ll settle into an exclusive accommodation in the colonial district of Casco Viejo. It’s is a former department store from the 1920s that has been transformed into a grand house with charming Panamanian style, where mosaics and rocking chairs are perfectly at home. The swimming pool, one of the few in the neighbourhood, offers a gentle preview of the journey ahead. And when you return, you’ll stay in a contemporary hotel belonging to an international chain known for its very high standards in services, style and comfort. On

Isla Colón - A true tropical hotel, your hotel in the Bocas del Toro archipelago was designed and built like a temple. It draws direct inspiration from Thai and Balinese architecture, standing as a sanctuary of calm and wellbeing. It’s surrounded by a lush garden, where monkeys and sloths occasionally appear. On site, there is a spa as well as yoga and meditation, and of course swimming - either in the pool or at the nearby beach, which has a welcome beach club. Your room, with its minimalist design, is a cosy haven where you can unwind between walks, massages and delicious meals with your feet in the sand.

At Isla Palenque - Your Isla Palenque accommodation is simply the only one on the island. But don’t think we chose it by default! You’ll settle into a casita with a terrace, reminiscent of a treehouse, with elegant décor that uses natural materials and colours. Your bathroom is partially open to the outdoors - you’ll feel as if you are showering in the heart of nature, with added comfort and privacy. Hammocks, body treatments and hiking trails set the pace for each day, also marked by kayak or paddle outings and endless relaxation on the nearby beaches, where you can watch whales when the season allows.

Itinerary

100% customisable for you

Upon arrival, private transfer and stay for three nights at an exclusive hotel in the colonial district of Casco Viejo. The building is a former department store from the 1920s where people used to buy American goods but has been given a makeover in the style of an old Panamanian bourgeois house, mixing different styles, including azulejo-style tiles, black wooden rocking chairs and many more. We particularly like the swimming pool, which is rare in this neighbourhood.

On your itinerary - A private day trip along the legendary Panama Canal. The Panama Canal, which connects the Pacific and Atlantic oceans, plays a major role in maritime trade today, allowing around 40 pleasure boats and commercial vessels to avoid circumnavigating South America every day. It consists of three artificial lakes (Miraflores and Gatún lakes, plus Alajuela lake, which serves as a water reservoir), three sets of locks and man-made canals. Accompanied by a guide, visitors first enjoy the view from the Miraflores lock, where they can stand on a platform to better understand the extreme complexity of traffic regulation and manoeuvres carried out with centimetre precision. Next, you’ll stop at the village of Gamboa, which traces the epic story of the construction. This area is home to old colonial houses from the 1930s, which give the place a charming, nostalgic character. Navigation resumes on Lake Gatún, which was artificially created during construction work by damming the Chagres River and now forms a large part of the canal. This may be an opportunity to encounter a container ship or cruise ship.

Panama City is considered one of the most cosmopolitan capitals in Central America and is an undeniable cultural, economic and natural crossroads. Beyond its frenetic urban expansion reminiscent of the Miami skyline, the city still has its share of old churches, cobblestones and colonial buildings in the historic and romantic neighbourhood of Casco Viejo, which is reminiscent of Havana, and in Panamá la Vieja, whose museum of ruins seem to brave the ocean.
See and do - The shops and markets of the Santa Ana district; have a drink on Bolivar Square; explore the colourful Biomuseo; spend a few hours on Taboga Island or “Flower Island”, off the coast of Panama City.
À la carte - Visit the village of Portobelo and take a trip to Isla Mamey.

Private transfer to the airport, then a quick flight to Isla Colón in the Bocas del Toro archipelago. Upon arrival, enjoy another private transfer and stay for three nights at a true tropical retreat. Inspired by Thai and Balinese architecture, your hotel is a sanctuary of calm surrounded by lush gardens, where it is not uncommon to encounter monkeys or sloths. To reach your modern and refined room, you will climb a grand staircase reminiscent of those found in Hindu temples. The establishment is entirely dedicated to the well-being of its guests and features a high-end spa. Enjoy an outdoor massage or take to the large deck for a yoga or meditation session. Swimming is within flip-flop walking distance, with the beach only a few dozen metres away. There, the beach club offers sun loungers and cocktails, making it the perfect setting for watching the sunset.

Bocas del Toro is a dream archipelago with an Afro-Caribbean atmosphere, floating close to the border with Costa Rica. These densely vegetated islands are home to mangroves, red corals, giant tortoises, sloths and dolphins. Isla Colón is the main island of the archipelago, and you can easily reach the others from there - Isla Bastimentos and its marine park, Isla Caranero and San Cristobal Island, which is inhabited by the Ngobë-Bugle Indians.
See and do - Delve into the thick tropical vegetation for a peaceful early morning yoga session; enjoy breakfast on your terrace overlooking the ocean as the breeze gently sways the palm trees; hire bicycles and cycle along the coast admiring the surfers at work; hire a surfboard and ride the waves yourself; settle into your deckchairs and enjoy a lunch of grilled prawns and fried plantains; return to the hotel for a massage in a pretty canvas cabin open to the trade winds; head to the pool for one last swim of the day, and admire the sun setting over the ocean from the heights...
To add to your itinerary - A day of sailing and snorkelling around the Bocatorito lagoon, nicknamed “Dolphin Bay”, and Cayo Coral, a diver's paradise; a day on a private sailing boat around the archipelago.

Private transfer to the pier and private boat crossing to Almirante, then another transfer to Boca Chica, at the gateway to the little-known archipelago of Golfe de Chiriquí. From there, you board a boat to Isla Palenque, where you’ll stay for two nights. Your hotel is the only establishment on the island, making you feel truly privileged. You will stay in a detached casita that is designed like a tree house. The interiors are airy and natural, with a refined simplicity that suits the setting perfectly. Each casita has its own intimate terrace. With indoor-outdoor bathrooms, hammocks, king-size beds and spa treatments, you can indulge in sweet idleness. The island's trails are ideal for hiking. On the waterfront, you can kayak along the beaches or escape to neighbouring beaches...

Like confetti scattered across the Gulf of Chiriquí on Panama's west coast, the island of Palenque is a 150-hectare tropical gem.
See and do -
Explore the island's trails; lay your towel on one of the estate's seven sandy beaches; go swimming, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding and snorkelling; enjoy a variety of water activities; take a boat trip to one of the many deserted islands with paradise beaches in the Gulf of Chiriquí; watch humpback whales from late August to October.

Crossing to Boca Chica then private transfer to David and flight to Panama City. Another transfer and overnight stay in a beautiful hotel that combines colonial architecture with contemporary comfort. It is built around a large patio opening onto the ocean, planted with palm trees and parasols that provide welcome shade. On the lower terrace is a beautiful swimming pool with semi-submerged deckchairs that invite you to relax by the water's edge with a cocktail in hand. Inside, there are beautiful references to the splendour of centuries past: parquet flooring, light fixtures and pretty retro touches, particularly in the bathrooms. In keeping with the standards of this prestigious chain, there are numerous services on offer, including a spa offering massages and treatments in a classy setting; a gym with state-of-the-art equipment; and a choice of restaurants and bars.
Optional - A private bike tour of Casco Viejo.

Private transfer to the airport and international return flight. Night on board, arrival the next day.

À la carte

This suggested itinerary can be customisable down to the smallest detail, including duration, stops and content. An à la carte menu of experiences is also available to create a journey that reflects who you are.

Caribbean day in Portobelo and Isla Mamey

Just 1 hour and 45 minutes from Panama City, the village of Portobelo offers an Afro-Caribbean cultural mix. During the day, we’ll explore it by kayak or by foot, tracing its history before a local lunch. In the afternoon, you’ll head to the idyllic setting of Isla Mamey to relax among the coconut trees and white sand.
Optional.

Dolphin Bay and Cayo Coral (late December to late March)

A day rich in colour and emotion, starting with dolphin watching in the heart of the Bocas del Toro archipelago. Next, head to Cayo Coral for a snorkelling session among coral-rich seabeds, home to multicoloured fish. In the afternoon, enjoy timeless moments on the idyllic beaches of the Zapatillas Islands, in Isla Bastimentos Marine National Park. What’s their secret? Shallow, crystal-clear waters and a coral plateau of rare richness - ideal conditions for snorkelling. You will certainly encounter angelfish, butterflyfish, snappers, groupers and other colourful residents. Optional

Aboard your yacht

Departing from Isla Colón, you set off for a day’s sailing in Dolphin Bay and along the coast of Isla Colón, with the stunning Playa Estrellas as your final destination. What’s on the schedule: explorations, relaxation, paddleboarding outings and snorkelling on the reefs. With a private English-speaking captain and guide.
Optional.

The Casco Antiguo by bicycle

Also known as “Viejo”, this historic district is the cultural jewel of Panama City. This bike ride traces the neighbourhood’s origins back to around 1670, when Spanish settlers arrived, then follows the centuries through changing architectural styles and various façades. Today, these carefully restored buildings and palaces house gourmet restaurants, boutiques, high-end residences and museums. In fact, we’ll linger next at the Panama Canal Museum to learn more about the history of its construction. Then we’ll head to San José Church, which houses an impressive golden altar, the Altar de Oro, shrounded in mystery. The tour ends at the seafood market with an unmissable tasting of ceviche, a speciality of raw fish marinated in lime.
Optional.

With a few extra days… Boquete

The slopes of Baru volcano, the highest peak on the Isthmus of Panama, make Boquete one of the most popular holiday destinations for Panamanians. It must be said that the region is an ideal place to cool off from the tropical climate of the plains. You can enjoy coffee plantations, trout fishing, forest walks, and, in season, local celebrations such as the Feria de las Flores, the coffee celebration, and the orchid celebration. For experienced hikers, walks in Baru Volcano National Park and climbing the volcano at sunrise are highlights, as are a walk on the hanging bridges or a rafting trip.
Optional.
