Gambier Islands travel

Islands at the end of the world, 1,700 km (1,056 miles) from Tahiti, the Gambier archipelago will enchant lovers of peace and quiet. It is the least visited part of Polynesia due to its remoteness and the limited number of flight services connecting Papeete to Mangareva. Among the main economic resources of these islands are pearl farming and mother-of-pearl harvesting. Mangareva, the archipelago’s main island and the birthplace of Catholicism in Polynesia in the 18th century, is steeped in a unique heritage with its vestiges of ancient religious buildings.
