Itinerary highlights

  • Reimagine your tropical dream for two in a country of forests, lakes and waves

  • Sunset sailing trips, private surfing lessons, kayaking and a romantic dinner on Lake Nicaragua: it's all already planned
  • Concierge service, mobile app, Wi-Fi, airport lounge access (in certain cities): the extra Voyageurs touch
There is the sky, the sun and the sea (the Caribbean Sea). But there is also an energetic ocean, a huge lake, volcanoes, dense, rich, wonderfully tropical vegetation, and superb islands, salty and sweet - so much that you won’t know what to do with it all. Luckily, we have a few ideas. At a glance, it's the perfect setting to disconnect and play the adventurer. Long overshadowed by its neighbour Costa Rica, Nicaragua now welcomes visitors with taste, intelligence and environmental awareness - they want to disturb the environment as little as possible. This is the spirit of this trip: to give you access to a Nicaragua that is natural, but also elegant and comfortable. In the Corn Islands, a pair of islands floating off the eastern coast, when you leave your beloved hammock, it is to better explore the surroundings, on foot or by boat, or to go in search of coconut bread. It must be said that the Caribbean always delivers on its promise of sunshine and turquoise waters. In Popoyo, the Pacific coastline reveals some of its most beautiful surf spots. Here, surfing is a way of life, and life moves to the rhythm of the waves. The cool spirit extends beyond the waves onto the warm sand, onto yoga mats and onto terraces where you can enjoy seafood and grilled fish. As for the forest, it is never far away. Then we leave the salt water for the calmer waters of Lake Nicaragua, the largest freshwater lake in Latin America. The temperamental Mombacho volcano scattered debris into Lake Nicaragua, forming the Islets of Granada, a string of 365 islets, one for each day of the year. Nature, which seems to have never lost its rights here, expresses itself in fifty shades of green. You can drift at will between the islands, paddling at random and encountering a fisherman casting his net, a water bird taking flight, or a beach where you could relax for a little while. But it's already time to settle down in Granada, Nicaragua's colonial gem. Granada tells part of the country's history, against a backdrop of arty charm and an inspiring lifestyle. Long after the Conquistadors, you will be conquered.

Your trip

Getting away from it all, even in unfamiliar territory, shouldn't be stressful. That's why this trip has been designed so that you don't have to think about anything. Except yourself. Everything - flights, boat trips, private transfers and accommodation - has been carefully arranged. As a bonus, given the small size of the country, travel times are never very long. This means you have plenty of time at each location to explore, even get lost, and fully immerse yourself in the experiences we have included in your itinerary: a sunset boat trip in the Corn Islands; a stroll in good company in the gardens of your superb lodge and a private surfing lesson in Popoyo; not to mention a kayak trip and a romantic dinner in the Islets of Granada. If that's not enough, or if something else takes your fancy during your trip, you can contact our on-site Concierge to help you make them happen.

Your hotels

Big Corn Island
Tropical nature is everywhere.  You can make the most of it without disturbing it.  Your garden is right on the beach, and you feel like you can reach out and touch the sea from your bed. Inside, everything is comfortable and bright. In addition to a spa and a restaurant that pays tribute to local cuisine, you have a small private swimming pool all to yourself. The days always begin with a panoramic view of the sea and the sound of waves lapping on the sand. They end in the same way, yet nothing here ever grows tiresome.

Popoyo
Local artists and artisans have been called upon to make your room an ode to Nicaraguan life; your terrace overlooks the ocean. You can enjoy peaceful moments here before succumbing to the call of the outdoors: the tropical forest and its colourful wildlife - iguanas, howler monkeys, sloths and birds - the legendary waves of Popoyo, the incredible property where vegetables, fruit and herbs are grown, with a strong focus on sustainability. At the end of the day, the spa and the bar give you the feeling that your day could last forever.

Islets of Granada
On one of these adorable islands, large, beautiful huts on stilts have been built on the edge of the lake. It is tropical, elegant, spacious and perfectly integrated into its surroundings: the work of an architectural firm renowned for its ecological commitment. The wood used is actually recycled wood that fell during Hurricane Felix. An inspiring retreat, on the edge of reality.

Managua
Colonial city, colonial hotel. Neo-colonial, to be exact. A charming house that surrounds five patios covered in green plants and a swimming pool lined with hammocks and cosy beanbags. An ideal place for reflection, there is even a spa.

Itinerary

100% customisable for you

On arrival, you have a private transfer and night in a comfortable hotel, where spacious rooms and a swimming pool soothe you into recovery from your flight.

Private transfer and flight to Big Corn Island. On arrival, you have another transfer and then settle in for three nights in an establishment that makes the most of the surrounding tropical nature, offering a beachfront garden setting. The sea is indeed very close, just a few metres or feet away at most. Perfect for a refreshing, seaside wake-up. Your suite, with its small private pool, also faces the coastline and offers a sea view you can never get enough of. Inside, natural materials, soft tones and beautiful light create a gentle setting where it’s a pleasure to unwind after a day in the sun. The relaxed atmosphere extends to the restaurant and the exquisite spa.
Planned for the evening  - A sunset cruise bathed in golden reflections and poetry, to help you settle into the rhythm of this little paradise.

Lapping in Caribbean waters, the idyllic Corn Islands are made up of two islands: Big and Little Island. For centuries, the inhabitants mainly lived off coconut farming and fishing, but today their picture-postcard landscapes and coral reefs attract travellers seeking nature and tropical seclusion.
Things to see and do - Don your fins, mask and snorkel to explore the marine life and reefs surrounding the Corn Islands; take a nap nestled in a hammock, lulled by the sea breeze; sample freshly baked coconut bread right on the beach; imagine yourself as an adventurer and hike across the island in search of the best viewpoint; or simply… do nothing at all.

Return flight to the mainland, then transfer to Popoyo on the west coast. Stay for three nights in a spacious property overlooking some of the best surf spots in the area. The hotel’s architecture evokes the “Mission Revival” style found in California - red tiles, spacious patios, terraces and stone floors to keep things cool, all complemented by a beautiful outdoor pool. A variety of wildlife lives in the surrounding dry tropical forest - iguanas, howler monkeys, sloths and many birds. Inside your room, ochre and cream tones, original artworks, colourful maps, and wooden furniture crafted by local artists and artisans. It opens onto a private terrace overlooking the ocean. The hotel bar, meanwhile, is a popular meeting spot where guests savour well-shaken cocktails and Nicaraguan rums. Tacos, seafood and grilled lobster are served in the various restaurants.

On your itinerary - A walk through the estate’s gardens and orchards with a guide - 2,500 hectares (6,177 acres) filled with colourful green vegetables, cherry tomatoes, peppers, sweetcorn, citrus fruits, and sustainably grown habanero peppers. Thanks to your guide’s insights, you’ll learn more about cultivation methods, the climate, traditional recipes, and a part of Nicaragua’s history.

Popoyo, a village with a delightfully relaxed atmosphere, is Nicaragua’s ultimate surfing hotspot. It is centred around a small street that runs along the beach, lined with hotels and “surf camps” offering surf lessons and equipment hire. Most have their own bar-restaurant, where people come to relax between surf sessions. Enthusiasts will feel as though they are on a pilgrimage here, while others will be irresistibly drawn to the waves - not all of which require professional skill. And for those who resist the call of the surfboard, the Popoyo region offers an equally exciting programme: yoga, walks in the tropical forest, grilled fish savoured with your feet in the sand, and of course, time to unwind.
On your itinerary - Private surf lessons with an experienced instructor.

Private transfer to the Marina Cocibolca, where you board for the islets archipelago. There, you settle in for two nights in a group of large stilt cabins set on the lakeshore. They look like those treehouses we dreamed of as children - and even many years later. You’ll be glad to find them here, in a much improved form. They are tropical, elegant, spacious and sit harmoniously in their surroundings: the work of an architectural firm renowned for its commitment to ecology. The wood used is recycled wood that fell during Hurricane Felix, while the furniture was designed by local artisans. A peaceful setting to take time for oneself.

You find yourself in the heart of the islets, a chain of 365 volcanic islets borne from an eruption of the capricious Mombacho volcano. On these islands, where fishing families make their home, nature still reigns and reveals itself in a thousand shades of green. Venture at your own pace among the islets and, with a chance stroke of the paddle, enjoy some delightful, unexpected encounters: the graceful, tentative movements of water birds, or the artistic casting of a net by a traditional fisherman. From your tiny island getaway, a thousand and one adventures await, along with the gentle feeling of a waking dream.
On your itinerary - A kayak trip . Accompanied by a private guide, you paddle at your own pace among the islets, covered in lush vegetation where fascinating wildlife thrives, including many water birds.
Also planned for the evening - a private dinner in private by the lake. Your table has been set on a pontoon reserved exclusively for you. In the gentle evening, you enjoy this unique moment as the serene waters of Lake Cocibolca lap just a few steps away.

Crossing to the marina and private transfer to Granada, a true gem of colonial architecture listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Everywhere, you feel the strength of the past, the legacy of the Spanish occupation, and the presence of artists who have made it their home over the centuries.
On your itinerary - A guided tour of Granada, exploring the highlights of the “Gran Sultana”: the Xalteva and La Merced churches, the San Francisco convent, the cathedral, the market and the park. You also venture from the city centre to uncover the secrets of the station and the Pólvora Fort.
Things to see and do - Try vigorón granadino, a typical dish from Granada made with cassava, fried pork and shredded cabbage salad, served on a banana leaf; soak up the entertainment of La Calzada, a lively street in the city centre a stone’s throw away from the cathedral.
Overnight stay in neo-colonial style hotel, blending Nicaraguan and Scandinavian accents (the owners are Danish) with aplomb. The colonial house is arranged around five patios where the green plants are lush. There is also an inviting swimming pool, surrounded by a few pouffes and hammocks. Large, brightly coloured swathes add vibrancy to the white walls. As the cherry on the top, you can enjoy the welcome amenities of an on-site spa.

Private transfer to the airport and international return flight. Night on board, arrival the next day.
