As for transport, we provide air-conditioned private vehicles for transfers. Getting to Koh Rong requires some planning. This involves a flight to Sihanoukville, then a boat crossing, and to leave the island for Kampot, a train journey through the Cambodian countryside. Once there, tuk-tuks give a touch of local colour and are an efficient way to get around. Of course, we have included visits of Angkor in your itinerary. Here again, the tuk-tuk is fantastic for exploring the pepper and rice-growing countryside of Kampot. In Phnom Penh, our local expatriate will show you the capital by night. Various options are available to help you expand your range of action. And if, along the way, an unexpected whim or a minor setback arises, you have the contact details of our on-site Concierge to assist you. Private transfer to your hotel, where you settle in for three nights. Urban elegance and thoughtful design define this accommodation, which, with only 19 rooms, offers a rare sense of intimacy. The owners, a French-Cambodian couple, embody the warmth and friendliness that permeates the place. Minimalist rooms subtly evoke the timeless chic of the 1950s and 1960s, with handsome floor tiles and arty furnishings. The rooftop cafe is the perfect spot for sampling local treats with views over the tropical pool.

In your itinerary - Angkor Vat and Angkor Thom. You explore these two great landmarks of the former capital of the Khmer Empire by tuk-tuk, accompanied by a private guide. Built in the 12th century, Angkor Wat - the temple-capital of Suryavarman II - is the largest and best preserved monument on the site. Archaeologists from renowned universities have done remarkable work here. The statuary is superb. Buddhist worship continues in the sanctuary (which was originally dedicated to Vishnu). Jayavarman VII built the royal city of Angkor Thom in the early 13th century. The immense sculpted faces of the South Gate are unforgettable; the naturalism of the Bayon’s bas-reliefs, at the city’s heart, is striking; and the Terrace of the Leper King was probably used for royal cremations.

In your itinerary - Angkor’s lesser-known temples. The sheer scale of Angkor means that many outstanding buildings remain overlooked by most tourist routes. With a driver and private guide, you'll discover a few of them, for an Angkor all to yourself: Krol Kô, in the Bayon style; Banteay Prei, where cattle graze; Prasat Prei, restored by French archaeologists in 1934; peaceful Banteay Thom, with sculpture of breathtaking quality; and Ta Nei, claimed by moss and roots. Sizes and states of preservation vary, but all belong to a prestigious civilisation.
Private transfer to the airport, then flight to Sihanoukville. On arrival, another transfer to the port and a boat crossing to Pagoda Beach on Koh Rong island, where you settle in for three nights. Turquoise water spilling onto white sand makes the case for swimming without delay. Those who prefer the pool will have their pick, too. Some rooms offer the privilege of waking up facing the sea, just steps away. The modern bungalows sit discreetly beneath their thatched roofs, and the contemporary exteriors extend naturally indoors, too. Expect polished concrete, minimalist décor and a boho-chic atmosphere in harmony with the tropical setting. Outdoor showers add to the sense of wellbeing. The beachfront restaurant stays true to the spirit of fusion, serving a delicious interpretation, perfectly suited to the setting. It's an idyllic interlude.
Koh Rong has all the hallmarks of a paradise destination: some 7 miles (11 km) of sandy beaches edged by warm, cerulean water, backed by a tropical jungle that still looks the part. A preserved island setting, perfect for a peaceful escape. The terrain gives rise to a few lively waterfalls. There’s treetop adventure too. You can also hire scooters to tour the island’s beaches - some twenty or so, each with its own character - and enjoy a range of water-based activities, including paddle boarding, sea kayaking, windsurfing and more. Because the sand is so pale (ranging from white to beige, sometimes even pink), the water is wonderfully clear. Diving and snorkelling are obvious highlights. As for the bioluminescent plankton, it can be seen at night in areas free from light pollution.
Crossing from Pagoda Beach (Koh Rong) back to Sihanoukville port. Private transfer to the station, then train to Kampot. The journey (1 hour 40) passes through lush rice fields and picturesque little villages. On arrival in Kampot, settle in for three nights in a beautiful French colonial-era house. The décor makes generous use of the period's aesthetic, with pleasing contemporary touches. The overall feel is cheerful and bright. Each room is comfortably decorated to reflect a theme: the Khmer smile; the jungle of Angkor, douce France, Mekong expedition, memories of Indochina, and more. The graphic variations bring it all to life. The bar is particularly pleasant, and the central location is ideal for exploring.
In Kampot, the legacy of French rule is stronger than elsewhere, both architecturally and in terms of urban planning. Administrative buildings, European villas and rows of adjoining shophouses - once combining home, warehouse and workshop - still line the old trading quarters. The White Bridge is typically French in style. On a roundabout, a gigantic durian celebrates the city’s second flagship product after its famous pepper. With the river running through it, Kampot never feels stifling. It’s easy to grow attached to the town’s unhurried rhythm - development has yet to disturb its easy provincial charm.

In your itinerary - Explore the Kampot countryside by tuk-tuk. By now, the tuk-tuk needs no introduction. Today, your English-speaking driver whisks you into the countryside. Kampot’s family-run pepper plantations - the source of its global reputation - are an obvious highlight. The salt flats never fail to impress with their precise geometry and their raw cones of sea salt. At Phnom Chhnork, a cave temple dedicated to Shiva opens onto wide rural views, its limestone chambers home to colonies of bats. Far from sleepy, the Kampot countryside reveals itself in quiet layers - varied, textured and gently absorbing, without ever disturbing its natural calm.
Transfer to Phnom Penh. Check in for the night at a small hotel housed in a charming 1950s villa surrounded by a leafy, flower-filled garden - there’s a gentle zen spirit to the place. Rooms combine warm tones with wooden furniture in a subtle colonial style. The restaurant may be simple, but a candlelit dinner by the pool is a delight. A welcome pause in the midst of Phnom Penh’s urban energy.
