Fiji - Malolo - Vanua Levu

From $4500 to $6300 per person for 16 days Price depends on departure city, season, accomodation types and selected activities

Itinerary highlights

  • Discovering two family-friendly paradises on the Tropic of Capricorn
  • The legendary beaches of the South Pacific, even more beautiful than you'd imagined
  • The gentle way of life on the islands and the kindness of the Fijian people, to young and old alike
  • The spirit of Cousteau on Vanua Levu: respect for nature and sustainability
On Sundays, as they leave church, Fijians are remarkably friendly to the foreigners passing by. To the children in particular. That’s how it is - Fijian hospitality is not just an empty phrase, even, and especially, outside the places where it is the main attraction. It’s good to begin with this aspect of the people before mentioning the unparalleled azure, the crystal-clear water, the breathtaking diversity of the marine life, the lush green of the tropical vegetation, the soft air, the fine sand and the taste of the fruit. All these things that you dream about and then, once you are there, enjoy to the full. An enjoyment that instantly justifies and makes you forget the long flight. Once you arrive, with the children on the beach or gathered around fresh coconuts, it couldn't be clearer: obviously it was always going to be worth bringing them to the other side of the world. Couldn't you find the same thing found closer? The answer is no.

Your journey

In both resorts, a warm family welcome is a given. The first, in Malolo, with a friendly and vibrant simplicity; the second, in Vanua Levu, with more of a focus on design and learning about the environment (no phone, no radio, no television). In both places, the standard of the facilities is excellent. Kids’ clubs, child-friendly menus and tailor-made activities, children are really catered for. And at the same time, parents can look after themselves at the spa, at the restaurant or on the beach. Water sports, snorkelling, diving and sailing can be enjoyed at all levels. Walks inland and through the villages, in Savusavu, are full of wonderful surprises and delightful encounters. Even though you are staying in particularly comfortable conditions, you are not cut off from the everyday life of the Fijians. On this trip, which combines two holidays, everyone can find their own pace and make the most of their time. Transfers, by boat or by plane, are brief and form an integral part of life in the archipelago.

Itinerary

100% customisable for you

Welcome and check in at a modern hotel set in a large tropical park. The architecture and decor gently reflect the traditions of the archipelago. The rooms overlook the garden and the nine holes of the golf course. It’s functional and comfortable. At the restaurant, the offering is international cuisine with Pacific hints. To recover after a long flight, you’ll find a pool, gym and massages.

Transfer to Port Denarau and catamaran crossing to Malolo Island. Stay for six nights in a bungalow with windows and a veranda overlooking the sea. The resort is discreetly nestled under the trees, a little set back from the beach. You become familiar with the colours, sounds and textures that make these islands unique. The range of amenities is very comprehensive, for both children and adults alike. In the kitchen, for example, things change, adjust, and diversify, so that everyone enjoys coming to the table. The atmosphere is welcoming to all, warm and friendly. Nothing stuffy or surly. The bungalow is simply but pleasantly furnished. When there’s nothing else to do, people lounge there together. Everything is arranged, in short, so that you can peacefully enjoy a few days of holiday during the trip.

You have just enjoyed a wonderful first night, and here you are on the threshold of your home. With the blue of the sky and sea, the deep green of the palms, and the ivory sand, the plan seems obvious. But where to begin? First, send the children to the kids’ club - things will become clearer after that. The Fijian team is incredibly friendly and has a unique talent for engaging the young European crowd with the island’s nature and culture - in a fun, sustainable and eco-friendly way. Then, splash! Pool or sea? Living is choosing: the sea. That’s the way things are. Between hammock and deckchair sessions, go kayaking, paddle boarding or sailing. Snorkelling and diving are, of course, scheduled. What else would the clarity of the water and the proximity of the coral reef be for? Both beginners and experienced enthusiasts will find options here suited to their level. A sense of wonder lies just beneath the surface. Dolphins pass by like neighbours and awaken the ‘Sandy Ricks’ sleeping inside each one of us. On land, you can also set off along the trails to explore the villages. Parents, as is typical for their age, will enjoy the treatments at the outdoors spa to recharge. In the evening, discussions are lively, stories animated - there is so much to share.

Return to Denarau by catamaran and transfer to Nadi airport, flight to Savusavu on Vanua Levu. Stay for four nights in the splendid Jean-Michel Cousteau hotel, the eldest son of the commander. Your bure, a traditional hut, reflects a genuine sense of design and contemporary style. It is spacious and largely open onto the lagoon. The terrace and veranda face the right way to make the most of the breeze and daylight hours. Supplied with ingredients from an organic vegetable garden, the restaurant skilfully blends Fijian cuisine and Asian influences. One evening, the children will kindly let the parents have dinner alone on the pontoon. They will not come back too late. The former coconut grove has been turned into a garden. At the spa, however, an oil extracted from local coconuts is used. Yoga sessions offer another way to experience the balance of the place. The Kids’ club offers plenty of fun activities to introduce children to marine life.

Now well acquainted with the Fijian environment, you can take it a little further. Especially as the lagoon, reef and mangroves make the area around the resort truly exceptional. Trips on a glass-bottom boat or walks on the foreshore at low tide are led by a marine biologist guide. It’s exciting to understand. The Cousteau spirit invites you to snorkel and dive with a regulator at beautifully preserved sites. The corals and their parade of fish and shells show off their vibrant health, revealed by a dazzling array of colours. It’s the Underwater Odyssey - for real. The hiking trails are no less remarkable, like the one that takes you to discover the rainforest. Farmers’ markets have a completely different vibe from those in Europe. And let’s take a bet that the females in the group are not the only ones interested in visiting a pearl farm… The swimming pool and tennis courts might seem a little superfluous. Yet, they prove to be fun to use.

Flight to Nadi. We return to the hotel from the first day.

Transfer to the airport and flight home.
