Itinerary highlights

  • Tracing the history of the island of Malta before heading to the hidden beaches of Gozo
  • Our selection of unique accommodation on each island - in the heart of the city in Valletta, surrounded by gardens in San Lawrenz
  • The private tour of Valletta and Mdina, exploring the coasts of Gozo and Comino by kayak: it’s all on your itinerary!
  • Smartphone app, recommendations and an on site concierge: the extra Voyageurs touch
You stay in Malta first, then in Gozo, moving from the most ornate to the most authentic. Enjoy impressive baroque churches and the palaces of grand masters, the history of the Knights of St John and landscapes shaped by olive groves and garrigue, and film sets and the most renowned diving spots. There’s plenty to do on both islands! Your first few days are spent in Valletta, the capital on the Sciberras Peninsula. This open-air museum is full of architectural treasures, such as the iconic St John’s Co-Cathedral, a stunning example of Baroque architecture. Spend some time on a terrace in one of the sun-drenched main squares and you will likely find yourself in front of a historic monument. The second stop on this itinerary takes you to San Lawrenz, on the island of Gozo. With its high grey and white cliffs that turn golden with the slightest ray of sunshine and the heather covering the hills, the scene is set. Dive into crystal-clear water at Mgarr ix-Xini, one of the island’s most beautiful beaches, or take a small boat to the Blue Lagoon, between the small islands of Comino and Cominotto. Throughout the journey, you will sample Maltese cuisine - pastizzi (ricotta-filled pastries), torta tal-lampuki (sea bream pie), ftira ghawdxija (stuffed bread) - which pairs perfectly with a glass of local wine. All you need to do is surrender to the gentle way of life that prevails on this Mediterranean island, and realise that Malta is a world of its own.

Your journey

Your unique accommodation has been selected for its location and character. In Valletta, near Hastings Gardens, you stay a former inn that once welcomed knights, now transformed into a comfortable hotel. In San Lawrenz, your room overlooks a vast garden filled with the scents of lavender, rosemary and basil. And in both places, a pool where you can unwind after a day spent exploring. We have included a private tour of Valletta and Mdina on your itinerary, by way of introduction, to help you better appreciate this history shaped by numerous civilisations. Then, you climb into a sea kayak to paddle along the coasts of Gozo. You also have access to our recommendations and the assistance of our on site Concierge, who is there to support you if there are any slight hitches.

Itinerary

100% customisable for you

Welcome on arrival and private transfer to your hotel. Stay four nights in the historic centre of Valletta, just steps from the harbour and National Museum of Archaeology. Set in a 16th-century building, the hotel features luxurious interiors. The bedrooms have not embraced minimalism either, with their satin quilts, framed mirror and tied-back drapes. On the rooftop, cool down in the small swimming pool and enjoy lovely views of the city.

Included - full day private tour of Valletta and Mdina. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the fortified city of Valletta’s history is closely tied to the Sovereign Military and Hospitaller Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, which founded the citadel between 1566 and 1571 and stayed for more than two centuries. The ancient medieval city of Mdina, for its part, is heir to a magnificent architectural heritage hidden among its narrow streets and squares with a scattering of shops. Spend the day with a private guide, exploring these cities and their iconic landmarks - Saint John’s Cathedral, the Grand Master’s Palace, the Archaeological Museum, Saint Paul’s Cathedral, and others.

Must-do - Depending on your itinerary during your stay in Valletta, take in a show at the Manoel Theatre, the third-oldest working theatre in Europe. Built in 1731 and financed by Grand Master Antonio Manoel de Vilhena, it has preserved original features such as the white marble staircase and ceiling decorations.
Optional - private guided tour of Vittoriosa, Cospicua and Senglea (“The Three Cities”); a visit to Hal Saflieni Hypogeum.

Transfer to the port of Cirkewwa, then ferry crossing to the island of Gozo. Transfer to your hotel and stay three nights in the west of the island. The hotel is built in the style of a traditional Maltese pavilion. A slice of Mediterranean countryside awaits, with 30,000 sqare metres (7.4 acres) of gardens filled with the scents of lavender, rosemary and basil. You are sure to appreciate the relaxed, peaceful atmosphere.

While the main island of the archipelago is known for its urban development and lively resorts, the small island of Gozo remains more rural and reveals many surprises. Life on this little piece of land still moves at the pace of fishing villages and markets. Gozo’s countryside, sea and history is yours to explore - on foot, by bike, or by canoe.
Not to be missed - shopping at Victoria Market on Pjazza Indipendenza; strolling in the shade of quiet alleyways; admiring the typical Maltese, baroque-style parish church; walking along the cliffs, and relaxing under the olive trees.

Included - in private kayak trip around Gozo. Gozo and Comino islands are separated by a strait about 900 metres (0.6 miles) wide. So it’s not too difficult to paddle over to the isle crowned by Saint Mary’s Tower (17th century). The tour is led by a private English-speaking guide and does not require any particular technical skills. Follow the coastline, where the sea has carved out many caves; enter secluded coves; and from a distance, gain a new perspective on the land, which is greener than you might think.
Optional - Diving off the coast of Gozo.

Transfer to Valletta and return flight.

À la carte

This suggested itinerary can be customisable down to the smallest detail, including duration, stops and content. An à la carte menu of experiences is also available to create a journey that reflects who you are.

VITTORIOSA, COSPICUA AND SENGLEA PRIVATE TOUR

Encircling the port of Valletta, the three cities embody the island’s maritime history. Once inhabited by the Knights of St John, the three fortified cities are also known for their churches, palaces and bastions. The history of these cities is probably as rich as that of the capital. Each city has its own character and attractions that make it stand out from the others. Vittoriosa, a veritable open-air museum, is also famous for the Maritime Museum and the Inquisitor’s Palace. Cospicua and Senglea are home to three beautiful churches, including the one in Cospicua, which has an oratory filled with works of art.

Tickets for Hal Saflieni Hypogeum

Hal Saflieni Hypogeum, now a UNESCO World Heritage site, was discovered in 1902 on a hill overlooking the Grand Harbour of Valletta, in Paola. It is the only known example of an underground structure from the Bronze Age. It appears to have been designed as an underground burial complex, and is home to the oldest tombs in the archipelago. Statuettes and figurines were found there, the most famous of which, "the Sleeping Lady", is currently on display at the National Museum of Archaeology.

DIVING IN GOZO

Long considered a well-kept secret, Malta is now among the most renowned diving destinations in Europe. The marine life here is typical of the Mediterranean. You are likely to see barracudas, scorpionfish, rainbow wrasses, groupers, sardines, lobsters and moray eels. But what truly sets the Maltese archipelago apart from other diving spots are its majestic backdrops and extraordinary rock formations. Experienced divers and beginners alike will be amazed.
