Vanuatu & New Caledonia A Pacific Romance

Nouméa - Éfaté - Tanna - Isle of Pines

Beauty in its unspoilt form

From $5900 to $8200 per person for 14 days Price depends on departure city, season, accomodation types and selected activities

Itinerary highlights

  • Treat yourselves to a grand journey for two, to the ends of the earth and far from the crowds, with charming hideaways
  • Little-known Vanuatu, from Éfaté to Tanna: tribes, legends and an active volcano
  • Nouméa as a Melanesian introduction; the idyllic setting of the Isle of Pines as the highlight
  • Private transfers, thoughtful touches on site, full carbon neutrality: the extra Voyageurs touch
There is no question here of lessening Nouméa’s appeal. After many hours of flying, the New Caledonian capital makes for a very pleasant final stop on your flight itinerary. All the more so as it remains a city with a vibrant mix of cultures and people, and the accommodation welcoming you does so in grand style, feet in the sand. All in all, a wonderful introduction to Oceania. With just a short hop, you find yourself on Vanuatu’s lands. Its most populated island, Éfaté, has also been home to this independent state’s capital since 1980: Port Vila. From here, you set out - alone or with company, as you prefer - to discover Melanesian landscapes and culture, making your way from peaceful villages to crystal-clear swimming spots and tempting local eateries. To gain a better understanding of Vanuatu, you then set out to form a second opinion on Tanna. Here, tribes with ancestral rituals and age-old traditions come together, and the land is abundantly rich in nature. Mount Yasur also rises here - its ongoing eruption is easy to admire during a short guided walk included in your itinerary. Finally, you’ll soon find out that New Caledonia is not just about Nouméa - far from it. It is also gracefully represented by the Isle of Pines, in the south of the archipelago. As its name suggests, this gem is dotted with tall columnar pines overlooking a landscape of white sands, natural bays and cerulean waters. A perfect ending to this trip, like the cherry on the lagoon.

Your honeymoon

Such a distant journey deserves seamless logistics, maximum comfort and assistance that is as meticulous as it is responsive. All the more so if you are celebrating a wedding there. In this spirit, the airport lounge welcomes you even before your departure. To give you a taste for the pace and theme that lies in the days ahead - just relax. You will be welcomed and driven everywhere, unless you feel like exploring Éfaté on your own, which is easy to get around in a day. But if you prefer, a guide with a vehicle will take you around, sharing advice and anecdotes along the way. Your drivers know the way to your accommodation venue. These are top-notch, wherever you go. Upscale, charming, bucolic, and delightfully located on the beachfront, each one is brimming with unique features. To enhance this island exploration for two, you can also expect a few carefully curated surprises, as well as the quick response and expertise of our on-site Concierge service.

Itinerary

100% customisable for you

Access to the airport lounge, then flight to Nouméa. Overnight flight, arriving the next morning.

Welcome and assistance with the usual formalities before a private transfer to your hotel. A room with a sea view awaits you at the end of Anse Vata. You can have your feet in the sand and be ten minutes from the city centre. Take the time to explore the gardens surrounding the swimming pool.

Over 10,000 miles (16,000 km) from Paris, the most distant of French cities stretches across a peninsula sheltered by a lagoon in the heart of the South Pacific. With its very mild climate all year round and a short rainy season from February to April, Nouméa is always welcoming. This multicultural city blends Kanak, Polynesian, Asian and European cultures and offers a serene and joyful atmosphere. Take the opportunity to stroll through its parks, the Port Moselle market or the Tjibaou Cultural Centre. Another enjoyable experience is to take a boat trip to Maître Island, just a few minutes off the coast from your hotel.

Transfer to the airport and flight to Port Vila on the island of Efate. A new vehicle will take you to your hotel for the first three nights in Vanuatu. This small hotel blends in perfectly with its surroundings. The architecture is strongly inspired by the island’s colonial heritage and Melanesian culture. A 1.5 mile (2 km) white sandy beach lined with coconut palms and pandanus trees provides the backdrop to your surroundings.

The country’s capital and largest city on Efate, Port Vila is your gateway to Vanuatu. This cosmopolitan little town blends Melanesian, French, English and Asian influences. To see this for yourself, visit the stalls of its market, which is open 24 hours a day. The former ‘Sandwich Island’, named by Captain Cook, remains the most visited island in the archipelago thanks to its international airport.
Optional - Tour the island with a private guide or on your own, renting your own vehicle.

Transfer to the airport and flight to Tanna. Once you set foot on the island, you will be driven to your accommodation, which is located in an exceptional location in the heart of lush vegetation, facing the ocean. It is the ideal starting point for exploring the island, just a few minutes’ walk from white sandy beaches and a “blue hole”. This hotel is one of the most comfortable accommodations on the island. And although there is no electricity on Tanna, a generator provides what is needed (during the day only).

South of Efate, Tanna is surely the most fascinating island in the country. Its many tribes continue to live according to their traditions and perpetuate the customs of their ancestors. Traditional dances, initiation rites and traditional medicine are all evidence of this.
On your itinerary - A guided walk to the Yasur volcano. This is quite simply the most accessible erupting volcano in the world (it has been erupting for 800 years!). As a result, this walk does not require any particular physical fitness.

Transfer to the airport, flight to Port Vila and check-in at the same hotel as during your first visit a few days earlier.

Private transfer to the airport and flight to Nouméa. Then another flight south to Île des Pins. You will be driven to your hotel for the next three nights.
Located in Kanuméra Bay, on the edge of a beautiful white sandy beach, it is a true little corner of paradise. You will stay in one of the 25 wooden bungalows, carefully scattered throughout a beautiful coconut grove mixed with sumptuous tropical vegetation. The zen atmosphere and simple, aesthetic décor, sometimes inspired by Asia, make your hotel a place of extraordinary tranquillity. On site, you will find many amenities such as a restaurant and bar overlooking the beach, a massage parlour and a swimming pool.

Île des Pins is a paradise and instantly recognisable thanks to the slender silhouettes of the columnar pines that gave it its name. This island, close to the south coast of New Caledonia, is gradually erasing the traces of the Commune’s convicts. Today, it is renowned for its sandy beaches, natural pools and ball-shaped coral formations standing out against the turquoise water. Diving, swimming, sailing and canoeing are all activities that can be enjoyed at the leisurely pace of an island that has preserved a true art of living.
Already planned - A romantic dinner on the beach.
Optional - A trip to Upi Bay by canoe with a local canoeist.

Transfer to the airport and flight to Nouméa. A hotel room awaits you there so you can wait in comfort until your evening flight. Boarding for the return flight; night on board and arrival the next day.

À la carte

This suggested itinerary can be customisable down to the smallest detail, including duration, stops and content. An à la carte menu of experiences is also available to create a journey that reflects who you are.

A tour of Éfaté Island in private

After several stops along the roadside to explore the island’s history, culture, wildlife and plants, this guided walk begins in front of the Nakamal in Port Vila, where the traditional chiefs of the Vanuatu archipelago gather. Continuing along the southern part of the island, the first stop is at the traditional village of Larofa, where visitors can discover traditional practices and knowledge, ancestral dances and fire walking. A free moment at the Blue Lagoon lets you enjoy a swim and taste some local specialities. Right after, a visit to the village of Eton and its traditional houses is planned. This is followed by a short walk to the banyan tree to learn more about the use of plants in traditional medicine, still practised in the villages. The buffet-style Melanesian lunch offers fine local specialities. This provides the perfect opportunity to enjoy the picture-postcard paradise, with its white sand beach and turquoise lagoon. On the way back to Port Vila, Ernest, a collector of World War II memorabilia, enthusiastically tells the story of his bottles from a famous American soda. Finally, a last stop is planned by the seaside in Port Vila so you can enjoy a light snack, before returning to the hotel.

Upi Bay by pirogue

The expanse between the Oro Peninsula and Koutomo Island forms Upi Bay. This spectacular bay is explored by pirogue, the traditional means of transport used by Kanak fishermen. After about two hours of sailing, you will have free time to explore the Oro site, home to a natural pool carved into the coral. Time seems to stand still: this destination, bordered by pine trees, is truly magnificent, its clear waters making it an open-air aquarium for snorkelling.
