100% customisable travel idea
Belize - Honduras - Belize City - Lamanai - Placencia
100% customisable for you
Overnight stay near Atlanta airport, in a hotel whose location and facilities make for a smooth connection. The comfortable and well-equipped rooms are the ambassadors of proven international standards.
Flight to Belize City then transfer to your lodge located on the banks of the New River lagoon, close to the archaeological site of Lamanai. It is a rare lodge in the Belize jungle and is also one of the most beautiful in the region. Here you will live in the heart of the tropical wilderness, in wooden cabins perched on stilts whose palm roofs barely rise above the canopy. It is a larger wooden structure that is open to the outside and houses the restaurant where all meals are served. During the day, guests explore the surrounding area on foot or by canoe in the company of experienced guides You will admire the ruins of the Mayan site of Lamanai, of course, but also the fascinating animal and plant species that inhabit the lagoon, which you can see from your room's terrace. Ideal for continuing your observation from your hammock!
Things to see and do - Witness the jungle awakening through the mist alongside a naturalist guide; take a 3,000-year journey into the past as you wander among the ruins of the Mayan city; admire the sunset from your canoe; read a book on your terrace before dining among the trees; embark on a night-time boat safari and perhaps encounter a jaguar or a Morelet's crocodile; during a night-time walk through the rainforest, observe the ballet of monkeys and bats in silence...
Transfer to Belize City and board the boat where you will spend the next seven nights. Your cabin is a real cocoon. As spacious as possible, it has not skimped on comfort, with air conditioning, king-size bed and sofa, dressing room, private balcony and panoramic window opening onto the sea. The decor is far from the classic nautical knots and dark wood panelling. Instead, it is contemporary and elegant. It focuses on light, natural colours such as grey, beige and white.
You weigh anchor in the early evening and set sail south-east towards Honduras.
Stopover at Punta Sal National Park, renamed Jeannette Kawas in honour of the Honduran environmental activist assassinated in 1995. In this remote and protected area of Honduras, you will discover idyllic landscapes and a string of small coves with white sand that are bathed in crystal-clear waters where small coral islands float. A few metres further on is where the tropical forest begins - a tangle of vegetation streaked with mangroves, rivers and lagoons. Aboard a zodiac, you sail through the forest to discover an exceptional ecosystem.
Departure at the end of the day.
Guanaja is certainly the most remote and wildest of the islands in the bay. Its rich marine life also makes it a popular spot for divers, while on land there are picture-postcard beaches, mangroves, rainforest and waterfalls. You can discover all this by boat and on foot, during hikes accompanied by naturalist guides. Along the way, you will make some precious memories. One memorable encounter is with the Caracoles people on the tiny island of Bonacca the Cay. Another is with the incredible winged creatures, notably the splendid macaw.
Departure at the end of the day.
A small group of islands floating northeast of the coastal town of La Ceiba, Cayos Cochinos is an archipelago consisting of two islands, Cayo Menor and Cayo Grande. Scattered around them are more than a dozen coral cays that complete a picture painted in shades of blue. This is the heart of a marine reserve that is home to another great barrier reef. Beneath the azure sky, fins and flippers in a thousand and one colours bustle about in their coral gardens. Behind the mask, your eyes won't miss a thing because there is so much to see.
Departure at the end of the day.
Continental stopover in Cuero y Salado National Park, west of La Ceiba. Located at the estuaries of the San Juan, Cuero and Salado rivers, this veritable refuge of biodiversity is a paradise for observing flora and fauna. Mangroves and forests teem with life and, if you are lucky, you may catch a glimpse of a caiman or turtle discreetly passing by the water's edge, the colourful flight of birds inhabiting the canopy or the agile dance of monkeys jumping from tree to tree. Back on the mother ship, you then head for Water Caye, which is a coral island that is part of the Bay Islands. It is deserted and surrounded by white sandy beaches where coconut and palm trees cast welcome shade, while turquoise waters lap against these beaches. Swimming here is particularly pleasant.
Departure at the end of the day.
Stopover in Placencia, which marks our return to Belize. On the Caribbean coast in the south of the country, this small fishing village exudes a distinctly Afro-Caribbean vibe. Pretty, brightly coloured houses line the narrow streets of the village, where reggae music can be heard playing. Relaxation is the order of the day, as is snorkelling in the clear waters of the lagoon, which is populated by sea crocodiles, dolphins, manatees and tropical fish. The itinerary also includes an excursion to the mangroves and a discovery of the Mayan Mapon and Ketchi civilisations.
Departure at the end of the day.
You drop anchor off Half Moon Caye, which is a paradise island that lives up to its name. It is shaped like a crescent - not of the moon, but of unspoilt nature - and is the oldest marine protected area in Central America. Here, you swim in crystal-clear waters that reveal an incredible seabed full of leopard rays, turtles, sea sponges, corals and eels, and you can explore at your leisure with masks, fins and snorkels. On land, the golden beaches give way to a wonderful coastal forest where you can enjoy watching the comings and goings of red-footed boobies and see skilled fishermen diving into the sea at breakneck speed to fill their bellies with squid and small fish.
Departure at the end of the day.
Disembarkation in Belize City early in the morning, private transfer to the airport and international return flight. Night on board, arrival the next day.
