  • Private transfers, Wi-Fi, Concierge service, our personalised recommendations: the extra Voyageurs touch
Vietnam is more varied than you might think. Its culture, like its agriculture, is rich, sophisticated and fertile. After a detour through the northern valleys, this well-balanced itinerary lets you explore the most beautiful towns and sites along the coast, without getting too close to the crowds. Starting with land and water: urban parks and lakes, rice fields and idyllic beaches. You will see, in order from north to south, Hanoi, Mai Châu, H?i An and Quy Nhon. Here, culture has always been enriched by the coexistence of different beliefs: Hinduism, Buddhism and Confucianism. Not to mention the European influences. Eras intertwine, with lively cities giving way to peaceful countryside. Throughout your journey, you stay in refined accommodations that we have carefully selected for their character, service, and that special something that turns a beautiful establishment into a memorable stay. Grandiose retro hotel, private villas, colonial building, swimming pools, and panoramic terraces… And each one gives the country’s delicious cuisine its rightful place. While some moments are made for strolling together, we have added a few highlights and key visits to your itinerary: a typical day in Hanoi, giving you the chance to live like a Vietnamese person; walks in private in the Mai Châu area to meet local people and discover their way of life; and a visit to a rum distillery with a tasting.

Your journey

Because, even for the most athletic travellers, a trip should never feel like a marathon, we have set a gentle pace for this journey, with at least two nights at each stop. This way, you have plenty of time to explore at your own pace and unwind. The logistics are perfectly organised, so you don’t even have to think about it: your transfers are by private car with a driver, by plane between Mai Châu and H?i An. The journey between H?i An and Quy Nhon is by luxury train, on which you have your own private cabin and enjoy a meal and a massage on board. And, at any point during your trip, should you encounter a minor setback or have a sudden request, our on-site Concierge is at your service.

Itinerary

100% customisable for you

Direct international flight. Night on board, arrival the following day.

Early morning arrival, private transfer and stay for two nights in the city centre, near Ho Hoan Kiem, the Lake of the Returned Sword. Your contemporary hotel is upfront from the moment you enter, with its bold blend of modernity and delightfully old-fashioned grandeur. Inside, the décor is nothing short of grandiose, taking playful inspiration from the 1920s. In the rooms, you get the same delightful impression. Colonial touches have been tastefully reinterpreted, with charm and a touch of originality. As for the bathrooms, the marble enhances their luxurious style. In the various restaurants, you can enjoy modern northern Vietnamese dishes, Japanese cuisine, oysters, caviar and more. While the ground floor bar features a charming retro look straight out of the Roaring Twenties, the light-filled rooftop bar is more contemporary. Between your adventures you can recharge at the spa or by the pool. All around, the walls are adorned with works of art and some pieces pay tribute to the world of opera. Talking of which, Hanoi Opera House is just a few steps away.
Things to see and do - You're in the perfect place to explore the historic centre of Hanoi on foot. The city slowly reveals its attractions as you visit some of its highlights. Be sure to take in Hoan Kiem Lake, Ngoc Son Temple, and the Old Quarter with its famous 36 Streets. This is the city's oldest commercial district, bustling with charm. The colonial influence is clear, even though it has now been integrated and has blended into the urban fabric over time.

In your itinerary - Day with a Hanoi local. Spend the day with a local and discover the country's customs and traditions by blending in with its people. Or, at least, trying to blend in. The day begins early with an introduction to tai chi by a lake or in a park. It's a great way to get energised and work up an appetite before tasting pho. This broth with rice noodles, slices of beef, basil and lime is the traditional breakfast. Then it's time to head to the market to gather everything you need to prepare an authentic Vietnamese meal, with guidance from a chef, and then eat it together.
Things too see and do - Visit the Temple of Literature, Vietnam's first university. Founded in 1070, the temple is dedicated to the Chinese philosopher Confucius. It was here, and in the adjoining college, that the elite were schooled and prepared for key positions of power. The One Pillar Pagoda, built in the 11th century, stands on a single pillar above a lotus pond. Its wooden structure has a deep spiritual meaning. Legend has it that Emperor Ly Thai To was inspired by a vision of Quan Am's lotus, which appeared to him in a dream.

Private transfer to Mai Chau and stay for three nights at a hotel with the feel of a small hilltop village and superb views. Thirty or so small houses with thatched roofs are scattered along the mountainside, in the heart of lush vegetation. While the view from your private terrace is already splendid, the best one is surely from the pool, which seems to merge into the sky. In the rooms, the elegant, carefully crafted décor makes good use of wood, echoing the natural surroundings. Nature is all around you in the spa too, where you can enjoy massages and treatments with a view. In the restaurant, the menu upholds local tradition, serving dishes inspired by traditional Vietnamese cuisine with a contemporary twist. Spiced duck, lemongrass pork, honey-roasted chicken, grilled goat, tamarind crab, papaya or green mango salad are all on the menu.
Optional extra - Candlelit dinner at the foot of a waterfall.

In your itinerary - Walking tour of the surrounding villages. The region is ideal for walking and even hiking. This beautiful walk takes you along the riverside before reaching the mountain summit, where you can enjoy panoramic views of the region, with the villages of Panh and Cun Pheo as a backdrop. You then follow rice paddies and maize fields to reach the village of Co Cham and meet the villagers. This experience will leave you with a better understanding of daily life for the ethnic group in this region.

In your itinerary - Jeep tour in the area around your hotel. Explore the region with a guide, passing by rice fields, waterfalls and lush nature, stopping in a few villages to chat with the locals.

Private transfer to Hanoi and flight to Da Nang. Another private transfer to Hoi An. Stay for two nights in a historic building where French, Dutch, Chinese and Japanese influences come together. The garden sits on the banks of the Thu Bon River. The setting is quite delightful. The property has everything that made ancient Faifo so charming. The amenities are first-rate, and the cuisine has put the hotel on the radar for foodies.

Set on one of the Silk Road maritime routes, Hoi An was one of the busiest ports in Southeast Asia in the 17th and 18th centuries. This charming city is famous for its incredible mix of architectural styles. Its magnificent jackfruit-wood houses, that are still inhabited, reflect the Chinese influence, while the covered bridge was built by the Japanese. Houses with yellow facades and turquoise shutters are reflected in the river, where sampans sail back and forth. Time seems to stand still here. Be sure to visit Phuc Kien and Quang Cong temples, Tan Ky House, Phung Hung House and Tran Family Chapel, and the Japanese bridge.
In your itinerary - Tour of a rum distillery. With your private guide, discover the stages involved in producing this drink, from harvesting sugar cane to ageing the rums in barrels after fermentation and distillation. At the end of the tour you can try some of the rum, naturally.
Not to be missed - Get some new clothes! Thanks to its silk trade, Hoi An is renowned for bespoke clothing. All it takes is a stroll through the streets that make up the historic centre to get your new outfits.

Private transfer to Da Nang station and luxury train to Quy Nhon (about 6 hours). Settle into your private cabin, with its panoramic views of the lush plains, wooded mountains, and sparkling shores of central Vietnam.
Already booked on board - Three-course lunch and massage.
Upon arrival, private transfer to your hotel and stay for three nights at a spacious resort set on a peninsula and bordered by a beautiful private beach. The villas are scattered among three different areas, the rice fields, the hills and the beach. Each area has its own architectural style, but all the buildings are elegant, with some traditional inspiration and plenty of charm. The materials used, the fittings, the picture windows and balconies are beautiful. Along with the natural and muted tones it all adds to the overall feel and the craftsmanship takes its lead from contemporary design. The rooms are well equipped and comfortable. The spa draws on expertise rooted in a long tradition of wellness. You can enjoy the swimming pool, play tennis and badminton, and of course take part in various water activities. There are three restaurants serving regional dishes, grilled seafood, and a wide range of Vietnamese food. Everything is skilfully prepared for a delicious experience.

Private transfer to Quy Nhon airport and return flight via Hanoi. Night on board, arrival the following day.

À la carte

This suggested itinerary can be customisable down to the smallest detail, including duration, stops and content. An à la carte menu of experiences is also available to create a journey that reflects who you are.

Mai Châu - Romantic dinner at the foot of a waterfall

An evening event is organised within your hotel in a magical setting. You take your seat at a beautifully set table to enjoy a three-course gourmet dinner by candlelight. Your butler takes care of your every need throughout the evening.

One night in Bai Tu Long Bay

From Hanoi, it doesn’t take long to reach the enchanting setting of Bai Tu Long Bay - part of the transfer can even be by seaplane, a real privilege! Boarding a converted 26-metre (85-foot) junk. Four comfortable cabins, a crew of six sailors, including an interpreter and a cook. The karst phenomenon in Tu Long is the same as in Halong Bay. Limestone peaks, pillars and buttes rise from the water everywhere, their wild tufts of vegetation in disarray. And there’s hardly anyone around! You’re not exactly alone, but it’s nothing like overcrowded Halong Bay. In fact, Tu Long is a bit like the Halong of the past. You feel the same sense of wonder as the first visitors to the bay, which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Sailing in such a setting is truly unforgettable. The meal is served on the deck, and the cuisine stands out for its precision. Evenings come with a joyful meditation.

With a few more days: Travel on to Nha Trang by train

This rail adventure aboard the Vietage takes you through the lush and spectacular landscapes of central Vietnam in luxurious carriages with old-world charm. An epic sense of romance surrounds the journey, which combines comfort, stunning views and culinary delights, as the train winds from Quy Nhon to the golden shores of Nha Trang. There, in a spectacular bay, the hotel awaiting you creates the illusion of being on a secluded island. And for good reason - the only access is by sea. Imposing rock formations, a pristine beach and a horizon outlined by mountains all enhance the sense of a secluded paradise. In the private villas, the boundary between indoors and outdoors is intentionally blurred, inviting guests to move back and forth between the bedroom and the private pool. The last days pass peacefully like this, until the much-dreaded moment comes to board the plane back to Saigon.
