A journey to Estonia. Travelling in Estonia means discovering a singing nation. In winter, when the cold overpowers the Gulf Stream, people sing to keep warm. In summer, it is the opposite – when the current prevails, they sing for joy. All things considered, Estonians have truly earned their nickname as the singing people: as early as 1869, a century before Woodstock, the first national song festival was held in Tartu, bringing together 1,000 singers and musicians. Today, 30,000 artists perform in front of an audience of 200,000 during this event. And in 1988, Estonia reclaimed its freedom through song, the Singing Revolution. Read more
