Itinerary highlights

  • Kaleidoscopic Cuba: the rhythms of Havana, the golden landscapes of Viñales and the Voyageurs Houses of Trinidad.
  • Your deserted cayo at the end of the journey, an adventure to experience as a family.
  • Architecture in Havana, a tour in a vintage American car by night, salsa classes, nature hikes: it's all planned!
  • Carbon absorption, concierge service, private transfers, recommendations: the extra Voyageurs touch
The splendour of Havana, the curves of beautiful American cars, the rhythms of salsa, music everywhere in the streets. The golden landscapes of Viñales Valley, the tobacco fields and sugar cane plantations. The legend of Che Guevara, the domino players and cigar smokers. The tropical forest, beaches, palm trees and white sand: Cuba is a multi-faceted destination. To make sure this trip appeals to both parents and (older) children, we have looked at the pace - relaxed, with all transfers by private car with driver - as well as the itinerary. We’ve included a private tour of Havana to discover its architecture. A ride in a vintage American car? Of course, and in the evening too: fiesta time! Here, dance is a way of life. A beginners’ class for the whole family is planned with a a private salsa lesson. In Trinidad, you’ll spend a day in the wonderful Topes de Collantes National Park, accompanied by a private guide. This unique nature reserve is made up of hills, waterfalls and rivers with crystal-clear waters. The Viñales region is renowned for its tobacco plantations. Set off to explore on a hike with a guide through the nature of the surrounding valleys, between tobacco fields and mogotes. Want to make a last-minute booking? Or need to deal with an unexpected situation? Our on-site concierge and their team are available at any time to assist you, using the local mobile phone provided.

From casa to cay

For most of the trip, you’ll be staying in a casa particular, so you can feel almost at home in Cuba. This arrangement is overseen by the tourism authorities and complies with a charter guaranteeing safety, hygiene and quality. The classification of the establishments varies from modest to exceptional. And the types of properties are varied, too. We have selected friendly, comfortable accommodation for you, each with its own special touch: a rooftop terrace in Havana, plenty of privacy in Trinidad, and views of the mogotes in the Viñales Valley. This wonderful experience allows you to discover the island’s diversity, staying with your Cuban hosts. And at the end of your trip, we make a small exception for you to enjoy some family fun at the seaside: check in at Cayo Levisa, a little beach hotel hidden among the mangroves. This haven is far from the large tourist resorts on other cays, sitting on a small white-sand island just 3 kilometres (2 miles) long. There you’ll find one of the most beautiful sandy beaches in the region, fringed with coconut palms. Relaxation, catamaran trips, snorkelling or scuba diving - the coral reef is visible from the shore.

Your appointment - a private dance class. Although salsa was born between Puerto Rico and New York, it remains Cuba’s beloved music. Its roots lie in Cuban rhythms such as cha-cha-cha and mambo. Dancing like the young Cuban couples you might spot in the cabarets takes practice, but an introductory lesson lets you pick up the basics and join the regulars on the dance floor.
. Optional - a private percussion class.

Private transfer to Trinidad (about 5 hours). You travel through the dense tropical forest of the Ciénaga de Zapata, the palm-studded savannah, sugar plantations in the outskirts of Cienfuegos, the city of Cienfuegos for an independent stop, before continuing along the Caribbean coast to Trinidad. Stay for two nights near the centre, in a house with a blue façade and an orange-tiled roof - a typical local style. Its apparent simplicity belies a warm atmosphere and an authentic experience, as the house has only two rooms making you feel at home. Enjoy breakfast in the cool of the patio while chatting with the owners.
Things to see and do in Trinidad - Stroll around Plaza Mayor, an eloquent testament to the past, and visit the Romantic Museum for a glimpse of the luxury in which the great colonial families lived: marble, Bohemian glassware and Spanish ceramics.- If you are in the mood for music and dancing, head to Casa de la Trova for a drink and some lively rhythms.

Scheduled - a day in Topes de Collantes Natural Park. In the Escambray Mountains above Trinidad, the magnificent Topes de Collantes Natural Park is a paradise for both beginner and experienced hikers. A vast forest at 700 metres above sea level, once a refuge for rebels led by Che Guevara during the 1958 revolution and later for anti-Castro groups, the park offers a superb showcase of Cuba’s natural wealth. It covers no less than 110 km² (42 square miles) in which to stroll in the shade of lush vegetation. Coffee trees, eucalyptus, bamboo, palm trees, pines and orchids share the landscape with many animals - especially endemic birds, such as wild parakeets. Optional - - Private tour of Valle de los Ingenios.

Return transfer to Havana, where you settle in for the night in a casa in the historic city centre, with spacious, bright suites and a pleasant flower-filled patio. You are just a few steps from the bay and Havana’s legendary night life. Because if you don’t experience Havana at night, you’re not really experiencing Havana.

Private transfer to Viñales. During thee three-hour drive, watch tobacco plantations, mountain landscapes and savannah dotted with palm trees go by. Stay for two nights a little outside the city centre, in a casa with a view of the mogotes in the Viñales Valley. The rooms are simple, and their slightly kitsch style is balanced by the pleasant ground-level terrace - an ideal spot to watch the sunrise and sunset from a rocking chair. The welcome is warm and the atmosphere is restful.

Colourful and peaceful, the town lies in the heart of a valley protected by impressive mogotes - strange limestone formations, shaped like sugar-loaf hills. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, the valley is considered one of the most beautiful rural landscapes in Cuba.
Scheduled - A hike from valley to valley through tobacco fields and mogotes. You leave the casa and head towards Viñales Valley. Along the way, with the guide’s help, you'll spot the many birds that inhabit the region as well as the local flora. You cross fields of sugar cane and maize to visit a tobacco grower who reveals the secrets of their craft. Later, you meet local farmers and talk with them about their avocados, coffee, mangoes, pineapples, and more. The adventure ends with a delicious lunch at a finca.

Private transfer to the Palma Rubia pier, then a boat crossing to the secluded hotel-islet of Cayo Levisa, tucked between beach and mangrove, where you settle in for two nights. The accommodation brings together rooms and bungalows with simple comfort, linked by wooden walkways, in a true Robinson Crusoe spirit. Pristine, fine sandy beaches, turquoise waters and extraordinary marine life invite exploration. Everywhere, the atmosphere is peaceful, and letting go comes naturally.

The small island of Cayo Levisa lives quietly beyond the hustle and crowds. It's the perfect getaway for lounging on fine sandy beaches, swimming a few strokes in the crystal-clear waters of the Gulf of Mexico far from the noise, or trying diving or catamaran sailing. On the north coast, the island's only beach, which stretches for over three kilometres (2 miles), is perfect for relaxing and long walks. With its abundant marine life, diving and snorkelling are truly unmissable activities. Around the island, the coral tends to form clusters reminiscent of the mogotes of Viñales. If you're looking for one last reason to put on your fins, mask and snorkel, La Corona de San Carlos is a fabulous dive site where you can spot rarely seen fish, as well as sea turtles.

Return crossing and private transfer to Havana, then international flight home. Night on board, arrival the next day.

À la carte

This suggested itinerary can be customisable down to the smallest detail, including duration, stops and content. An à la carte menu of experiences is also available to create a journey that reflects who you are.

Havana by bicycle

Exploring Havana by bike gives you the time and freedom to discover many points of interest that are difficult to access by car, while covering more ground than walking. With a private guide, set out from your casa to discover the city’s different districts: Habana Vieja, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site; and Vedado, a peaceful district of theatres, hotels and restaurants. Along your route, you’ll also find the Plaza de la Revolución, the political centre of the country, as well as the Bosque de La Habana, a surprising, lush park in the very heart of the city.
Optional

Authentic Havana

Explore the city like a local. Delve into parts of the city where usually only Cubans go: the huecos of Vedado, marketplaces, alleyways and hidden corners in different neighbourhoods full of contrasts and surprises. Among them are artists’ studios and abandoned theatres where young musicians hold impromptu rehearsals. You’ll also be able to discuss about daily life in Havana and meet a Cuban personality - jazz musician, dancer, choreographer, boxer or historian.
Optional

Percussion lesson

The percussion in Cuban music stems from African heritage intertwined with strong cultural links to the rest of the Caribbean and North America. Shaped by a history of exile, colonisation, and slavery, Cuban percussion has gradually refined its playing techniques to forge an international reputation, both in symphony orchestras and in contemporary music.
Optional

Private tour of the Valley de los Ingenios

Once one of the most important sugar-producing regions thanks to its favourable climate and soil, the Valley de los Ingenios is now visited for its archaeological sites and haciendas - Buena Vista, Delicias, Guaimaro, and Magua - as well as the Slave Route and the Mirador on a hilltop. Accompanied by your private guide, look out over magnificent views of the plain of Trinidad. Both the town of Trinidad and the Valley de los Ingenios are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
