In spring and autumn, Greece is still enveloped in a gentle Mediterranean climate. As there are fewer tourists, you have the ancient sites all to yourself. And what sites they are! Athens, of course, but also Mycenae, Epidaurus, Olympia, Delphi, and more. The children have read Asterix at the Olympic Games and The Last Spartan - once there, they marvel at the connections between fiction and reality, revisiting their classics. And it's easy to share in their amazement. The trip starts in the capital, Athens. Then it's on to Galaxidi, nestled by the sea near Delphi, Olympia further south and finally Nauplio, at the end of the Argolic Gulf. Between each stop, you can explore the surrounding area, visit a beach or a port, and sample olive oil and salad at the same time. In the early or late season, the Mediterranean offers striking blues, greens and whites, and the light is crystal clear. People have more time to spend with you. Between the blinding summer and the austerity of winter, the red-tinted or spring season is a wonderful way to experience Greece.

Your trip

A rental car awaits you as soon as you leave the capital - the easiest way to travel around the country at your leisure. The road network is perfectly adequate and the distances are reasonable. And even if the roads wind a little in the mountains, the scenery is so spectacular that the children won't even notice. At each stage of the trip, there is welcoming accommodation where the whole family can stay in comfort. The rooms are spacious enough for everyone and the service is attentive to the needs of young and old alike. The whole family can take part in the visits and activities included in your itinerary. In Athens, you will explore the city by electric bike with a private guide and you will have fast-track tickets to explore the Acropolis and its museum at your leisure. In Olympia, you will learn all about the history of the site and the Olympic Games. Finally, in Nauplio, you will meet a local resident who will take you on a tour of their city and reveal its secrets. After all, there's nothing like the locals to show you around! And for any last-minute changes or requests, you will have the contact details of our on-site Concierge. The guarantee of concrete answers to any questions that may arise along the way.

In Greece, they'll love...

Sending suncream-stained postcards of the Acropolis to friends; listening to their parents trying to read the signs; climbing up to the Parthenon; breathing in the scent of the scrubland through the car window; running in the stadium at Olympia; taking a dip in the crystal-clear sea (if they dare!); frolicking in the mountains; sampling local goat's milk ice cream; taking photos with the Evzones at Syntagma Square...

Itinerary

100% customisable for you

Upon arrival, private transfer and stay for two nights in the heart of the capital. The apartment combines elements of Minoan architecture with the medieval spirit of the Peloponnese and is well suited to travelling groups. While Cycladic-style tiles adorn the kitchen walls, exposed stone walls lend a warm atmosphere to the space. From the furniture to the fabrics, everything here has been carefully chosen with comfort and elegance in mind. The sleeping areas are well separated but can be connected if necessary. The Kerameikos archaeological site and the Technopolis museum are only a 10-minute walk away.

On your itinerary - The Acropolis and its museum at your leisure. Armed with fast-track tickets, you can all set off to visit the Acropolis and its museum. A highlight during any stay in Athens is the Parthenon, which is located in the heart of the city and majestically dominates the city. The sight of this building, which was constructed in 438 BC in honour of Athena, goddess of war and wisdom, often evokes strong emotions. And that's just the beginning, because the Acropolis includes many other remarkable monuments such as the ancient theatre of Dionysus, the Odeon of Herodes Atticus and the Propylaea. Excavations have uncovered traces of occupation dating back to the Neolithic period. Immerse yourself in the magic of Greek mythology!
Also planned - Electric bike ride through historic Athens with a private guide. To recover from the excitement of the Acropolis while continuing your exploration, hop on your bikes and follow the guide through the historic area. Spectacular views of the capital's iconic monuments unfold at a leisurely pace and with the comfort of electric mobility. First, the surroundings of the Acropolis hill, then the Roman Forum and Ancient Agora districts, followed by the sites of Kerameikos and Anafiotika, and finally the Psiri district and the stadium.

Pick up your rental car and drive to Galaxidi. Stay for two nights in a pretty 19th-century country house that once belonged to a merchant navy captain. The courtyard is adorned with flowers and green plants and connects the two main buildings. The breakfast is delicious, with the owner contributing her own homemade jams. The family atmosphere extends to the rooms. Yours is equipped with a small kitchen and opens onto a lounge area.
Optional - A private tour of the archaeological site of Delphi and its museum.

In Galaxidi, a small port in Phocis, life flows quietly. You can visit the museum, which has a collection of local archaeology and documents the important maritime trade that took place here in the 19th century. Coming from the west, you will have crossed a masterpiece of civil engineering: the Charilaos Trikoupis cable-stayed bridge. It spans the Gulf of Corinth and is reminiscent of the Millau Viaduct. To the east, the Corinth Canal is kind of the opposite as it connects two seas: the Ionian and the Aegean.

Drive to Olympia and stay the night less than one mile (one kilometre) from the archaeological site. The hotel is built around a large blue swimming pool lined with sun loungers. Despite the cooler temperatures than in the height of summer, the whole family will be able to make good use of it. The same goes for the modern, spacious and comfortable rooms.
On your itinerary - Once you’ve dropped off your luggage, you'll head to the site of Olympia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to meet your private guide. Set in the enchanting Alpheus Valley, it is one of the few ancient sites whose spirit is still alive today. The sanctuary of Zeus (whose ivory and gold statue was one of the seven wonders of the ancient world) and the sports facilities - imagine something like the Stade de France on the forecourt of Notre-Dame - are powerfully evocative of the Panhellenic games. Pierre de Coubertin drew inspiration from this to justify the revival of the Olympic Games. It is therefore worth taking the time to explain things accurately in private: our passions were born in Olympia. This is a way of gauging the importance of the Olympic Games in ancient Greece and understanding why the flame continues to be rekindled every four years, all over the world.

Drive to Nauplio. Stay for two nights in a comfortable family apartment overlooking the countryside. It is fully equipped with a kitchen, hot tub and fireplace. The cabinetmaker's furniture, embroidered sheets and lace reflect the region's popular traditions. The gardens feature olive trees, flower beds, barbecues and swings. Children have plenty of space to run around. Outdoor living is the norm. Enjoy the colours and heady scents of the Argolis. The atmosphere is holiday-like... However, you can escape your cocoon to visit Nauplio, where the typical Mediterranean landscape seems unchanged since the city was founded by Nauplios, son of Poseidon and Amymone and one of the Danaids. In the old town, some ancient buildings reflect Venetian influence. In a dense urban fabric, the shade of the narrow streets provides shelter from the dazzling sunlight. Nevertheless, you can look up at the two fortresses that stand out against the pure blue sky: Acronauplia and Palamidi.

On your itinerary - Nauplio in the footsteps of a local. Originally from France, your guide has settled permanently in Greece and is keen to tell visitors of all ages about her adopted country. She is deeply attached to Mediterranean culture and moved to the Nauplio region to fulfil her long-held dream of becoming a beekeeper. She settled on the Argolis peninsula, the region she visited every summer during her teenage years. She juggles two cultures, so she is the ideal host to guide you through the streets of Nauplio and share insights into the daily life of the locals.
Optional - A private tour of the sites of Mycenae and Epidaurus.

Drive to Athens airport and return the car. Direct return flight.

À la carte

This suggested itinerary can be customisable down to the smallest detail, including duration, stops and content. An à la carte menu of experiences is also available to create a journey that reflects who you are.

The archaeological site of Delphi and its museum

Above the Pleistos ravine, in the magnificent setting of the Parnassus massif, Delphi was a mystical place in ancient times, when the sanctuary of Apollo attracted crowds of pilgrims fascinated by the oracle. The archaeological site is located on the side of the road, about a mile before the village of Arachova. The ancient ruins cling to a slope overlooked by the Phaedriades rocks, known as the glowing rocks. Downstream, the view stretches across the entire Pleistos valley and the sea of olive trees that descends towards the coast. The private tour, led by an expert guide, immerses you in the fascinating history of this site surrounded by magnificent landscapes.

Mycenae and Epidaurus

A private guide is at your disposal to explore Mycenae and Epidaurus at your leisure. Ranked among the major sites in Greece, Mycenae is an ancient pre-Hellenic city in the Peloponnese. This citadel dominates the Argolic plain with its imposing walls and is a unique architectural testimony to Mycenaean civilisation, even though Greek mythology attributes its construction to the Cyclopes. In the heart of a valley of olive trees in the Peloponnese stands the theatre of Epidaurus. This masterpiece was probably built in the early 3rd century BC and is the most accomplished and best-preserved theatre of ancient Greece. Don't miss a visit to the sanctuary of Aesculapius, dedicated to the god of healing and an astonishing testament to therapeutic cults.
