On the traditional side, the “tianguis” (markets) already fascinated the conquistadors at the time of Tenochtitlan. On the folklore side, “Coucouroucoucou” takes place in Garibaldi Square, where the famous mariachis gather, dressed in their sparkling costumes and donning the iconic sombrero. An hour’s drive from Mexico City, colonial Mexico is the country’s baroque and historical jewel, home to many colonial towns listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites: Patzcuaro, Tzintzuntzan, Queretaro and San Miguel de Allende.
