100% customisable travel idea
United States - Colorado - Denver - Buena Vista - Telluride - Mosca - Colorado Springs
100% customisable for you
On arrival, settle in for two nights at a welcoming hotel with a mountain chalet feel, presented in a contemporary, urban style. The interiors are understated and elegant, the rooms spacious and comfortable. A pleasant surprise: the accommodation displays a selection of works from the neighbouring Museum of Contemporary Art, which guests can also visit free of charge.
A true symbol of the American way of life, Colorado’s capital is perched at 5,250 feet (1,600 m) above sea level, with the Rockies as its backdrop. A city inseparable from the conquest of the West and born during the Colorado Gold Rush, today Denver boasts a vibrant cultural scene with beautiful museums, charmingly restored historic districts, and lively alleyways.
Things to see and do - Have lunch beneath the vast industrial hall of Denver Central Market in the River North district - or RiNo - a spot mainly frequented by locals; shopping along 16th Street, a pedestrian avenue running from the Capitol and its gold-leaf dome to LoDo, Lower Downtown, a revitalised neighbourhood with streets adorned with street art; admire the striking Union Station; have dinner in Larimer Square, once the heart of the city during the Gold Rush, where shops and restaurants stand side by side; explore the city’s museums: the Denver Art Museum with its fine collection of Native American art, the interactive History Colorado Center, and the Clyfford Still Museum, which presents the work of the painter who taught Mark Rothko, with a distinctive feature - only natural light is used to showcase the artworks.
Optional - Attend a Denver Nuggets (NBA) game at Ball Arena.
Pick up the rental car and drive towards the Buena Vista area, in the heart of Colorado. On arrival, settle in for two nights in a stunning setting: an estate at the foot of Mount Princeton and Mount Antero. Your stay unfolds in charming wooden and stone buildings scattered across the property. Your room has a distinctly outdoor feel, with touches of wood and leather. On site, two restaurants offer comforting American cuisine. But what truly sets this place apart is the natural hot water that feeds the pools all year round - including the waterslide - and the wellness pools, as well as the spa.
Your accommodation is in a very small town in the Rockies, nestled between the Arkansas River and Chalk Creek. A breathtaking environment that lends itself to outdoor activities, and where even a simple walk feels like a grand adventure.
On your itinerary - a dog sled ride. With a professional musher, you climb aboard a sled pulled by a cheerful pack of dogs. Once you’re on your way, you experience the silence of the Leadville region and may even take the reins of your own sled. The scenery is magnificent; only the crunch of the sled runners on the snow and the exuberant barking of the dogs break the calm.
Not to be missed - Your hotel has its own pools and thermal baths fed by hot springs, with naturally heated spring water between 99°F and 117°F (37°C and 47°C). Make the most of them - children are welcome here, and you can soak while taking in views of the majestic Mount Princeton. The property also provides fatbikes, an ideal way to travel over hills and valleys on the snow.
Optional - A snowmobile excursion.
Drive to the charming resort of Telluride, where you settle in for four nights, right next to the ski lifts that give access to the slopes. Your suite is spacious, comfortable and perfectly equipped. The décor is classic - not particuarly modern or original, but it remains authentic. After exertion, relax in the large outdoor whirlpool with a view of the mountains. Then we meet in the restaurant on the ground floor to enjoy grilled dishes and American classics: burgers, grilled cheese, Caesar salad, nachos, mac and cheese, ribs and more.
Less exclusive than Aspen but just as popular, Telluride is one of Colorado’s most trendy resorts. This charming Victorian town with a mining heritage has everything you need to enjoy the pleasures of winter: ski slopes, snowshoe trails and evenings by the fireplace. In the evening, the entertainment is lively, attracting a young, festive crowd who often gather at the pub or restaurant. Located between 8,530 and 12,762 feet (2,600 and 3,890 m) above sea level, the magnificent Telluride ski area covers 2,000 acres (810 hectares) with 148 runs for all levels, 13 lifts, and several freestyle zones.
Already included - Your 3-day lift passes giving you access to the Telluride ski area; your ski or snowboard equipment.
Drive to Mosca and check in for two nights at a brand-new hotel in the San Luis Valley, one of the few places in the world with ideal conditions for stargazing thanks to its exceptionally clear sky. Scattered throughout nature, the “villas” that welcome guests make the most of their surroundings. They are, in fact, extended by transparent domes which - with the help of a telescope - allow continuous observation of nature and, when night falls, of the starry sky. The interiors are extremely modern, even futuristic, with a focus on design and simplicity in natural tones - the result is simply stunning. They also have a whirlpool bath and a kitchen. However, Mediterranean-style meals can be ordered in the morning, at lunchtime and in the evening. Finally, guests can enjoy a full-service spa on site, and also have access to a planetarium and astronomy classes.
Mosca, at the crossroads between Alamosa and the wetlands of San Luis State Park, is the closest point to the entrance of Great Sand Dunes National Park, where sand dunes ripple for more than 50 miles (80 km) against a backdrop of snow-dusted mountains. The contrast between these two types of landscapes is strikingly beautiful and completely unexpected. You can freely set out to explore the Park’s dunes, especially the High Dune which, although not the tallest, still offers a sweeping view over the Park from its height of 656 feet (200 m). Rising 100 feet (30 m) higher, the Star Dune also reveals a breathtaking panorama. Along the way, you might be lucky enough to spot some four-legged locals - deer, bighorn sheep, bobcats or black bears.
Drive to Colorado Springs and check in for the night at a simple yet stylish hotel - exposed brick, vintage armchairs, plants, and secondhand furniture. The spaces are friendly and welcoming; the rooms are comfortable.
Things to see - Just outside Colorado Springs, don’t miss a stop at the Garden of the Gods, a park with striking red sandstone formations threaded with hiking trails. A little further on, the welcoming western town of Manitou Springs is home to hot springs and the Manitou Springs Dwellings - a reconstruction of ancient cliff dwellings.
Drive to Denver airport, return the vehicle and take your international flight home. Night spent on the plane, arrival the next day.
